Bahrain Arrests Shiite Clerics

MANAMA — Bahraini authorities have arrested four Shiite men, including two clerics, suspected of setting up a network aimed at destabilising the country, a security official said on Sunday.

Three of the arrests wee made on Sunday, while the fourth, Abduljalil al-Singace, a leading figure in the Shiite opposition association Haq, was detained late on Saturday, said the official from Bahrain's National Security, cited by the BNA state news agency.

Mohammed Habib Mansur al-Safaf, known as Sheikh Mohammed al-Moqdad, and Saeed Mirza Ahmed, known as Sheikh Saeed al-Nuri, as well as Abdulghani Ali Issa Khanjar, a Shiite activist, were the others arrested.

The four men were taken into custody "over charges of forming with ... Singace and others, an organised network aiming to shake the security and stability of the country," he said, without specifying they were Shiites.

The unnamed official said the network had been involved in "illegal practices and other acts that would harm the stability of the kingdom of Bahrain and its civil peace, as well as endangering lives and properties."

The group was calling for "violence and terrorist acts" while using "places of worship for other than their designated purposes," he charged.

The official said the public prosecution issued a warrant to search Singace's home and belongings, while investigations were ongoing "to uncover the remaining members of the network."

Moqdad and Singace were released from prison in April 2009 in a royal pardon for 178 detainees accused of security charges.

The Gulf archipelago which is ruled by a Sunni dynasty has a Shiite majority population.

Haq, or the Movement of Liberties and Democracy, is a splinter group of the main Shiite formation, the Islamic National Accord Association. It insisted on boycotting elections in 2006 while INAA scooped 17 out of 40 parliament seats.

Bahrain was plagued in the 1990s by a wave of Shiite-led unrest which has abated since the authorities launched steps to convert the Gulf emirate into a constitutional monarchy.

Bahrain is ruled by a Sunni dynasty but the majority of people living their are Shia.. strange the way their system works. Not only that but Bahrain even chose a Jewish woman as an abassador to the US.

The Bahraini activists call them "pirates"

In 1783, the Al Khalifa clan led an attack on the islands of Bahrain, from their then base of Zubara, successfully capturing it from Nasr Al-Madhkur. The Al Khalifa family has ruled Bahrain ever since. The invasion was led by Ahmed bin Muhammad Al Khalifa, leading to him being named Ahmed Al Fateh ("Ahmed the Conqueror").

The Al Khalifa were supported by a naval fleet from Kuwait and several Bedouin clans based in Zubara in its invasion of Bahrain. These clans included Al Mannai, Al Jalahima, Al Bin Ali, Al Bu Romaih, Al Muhannadi, Al Nuaim, Al Buainain, Al Bukuwarah and Al Thawawida.

The Utub had been present in the banks of Bahrain in the seventeenth century. [22] One of the Documents which belongs to Shaikh Salama Bin Saif Al-Utbi one of the Shaikhs of the Al Bin Ali backs this statement about the presence of the Utub in Bahrain in the seventeenth century. It states that Mariam Bint Ahmed Al Sindi, a shia women has sold a Palm Garden in the Island Of Sitra at Bahrain to Shaikh Salama Bin Saif Al Utbi dating to 1699 - 1111 Hijri before the arrival of Al-Khalifa to Bahrain by more than 90 years. [23]

The ruler of Basra mentioned in an Ottoman document that the tribes of the Utub and Al-Khalayfat attacked Bahrain, which was under Persian rule, out of revenge due to their quarrel with the Howala Arabs; the Utub (Utub and Al-Khalayfat) had been attacked by the Howala Arabs while living in Bahrain. The Utub and Al-Khalayfat arrived at Basra with "150 ships and on each ship 2-3 cannons and 30-40 men carrying rifles.

These kinds of activists and activities are not important nor necessary. It only creates mistrust and problems in the society between different sects and ethnics.

If Bahrain's Shias are serious about having their rights and freedom, they must activate mass movements and create united fronts in big numbers to bring a change.

Bahrain is the country that its king said clearly "we should strghthed our ties with Israel , it is just about time to make Israel our friend" you can hear the protestors callinh al Khalifa as zion

showing the poveriy in Bahrain , if you happen to go to Bahrain you would notice the diffrence while you are on a bridge inking 2 islands one of them is Mnamah the capital , the other is any Shia island , the time is roughly 15 mints between the 2 places

This is not Palestine , This is Bahrain :

kinda a daily routin there since years , 3 or 4 years but of course the media would not harm a good friend to USA and Saudi Arabia nor would attack a potential friend if not already one to Israel

That shouldn't be a problem of Shias in Bahrain. They have nothing to do with ties of Khalifa with Israel. They must fight for their own rights first then after they had the chance and freedom, they could make decisions whether to make ties with Israel or not.

Bahrain charges 23 Shiites with forming 'terror-network'

(AFP) – 3 hours ago

MANAMA — Bahrain has charged 23 Shiite activists with forming a "terror network" aimed at toppling the Sunni-dominated government, the official BNA news agency reported on Saturday.

The agency, citing the charge sheet, said the suspects allegedly held secret meetings in Bahrain and abroad in order "to change the political regime through illegal means."

It identified 10 suspects -- including eight opposition figures under arrest since mid-August -- describing them as "leaders of the terror network" and charging them of "undermining national security."

No immediate date for the trial has been given.

Chief suspect Abduljalil al-Singace, a leader of the opposition association Haq arrested on August 14, was charged with "running an illegitimate network," as well as "leading sabotage cells... contacting foreign organisations and providing them with false and misleading information about the kingdom."

Seven other people, also arrested in mid-August, face similar charges and include Mohammed Saeed, a board member of the Bahrain Centre for Human Rights, as well as Sheikh Mohammed al-Moqdad -- who is also known as Mohammed al-Saffaf -- Sheikh Saeed al-Nuri, Abdulghani Ali Issa Khanjar, Jaffar al-Hessabi, Abdulhadi al-Mokhaider, and Abdulla Isa Abdulla

Moqdad and Singace had been released from prison in April 2009 in a royal pardon for 178 people detained on security charges.

Saeed is also charged with receiving "financial support from foreign parties to achieve his illegitimate goals."

Two of the 10 suspects charged by the authorities are Husain Mashaima -- the secretary general of Haq movement -- and Saeed al-Sheehabi -- secretary general of Bahrain Freedom Islamic Movement.

Both of them were not arrested as they live outside the country.

The charge sheet also includes the names of 13 other Shiites accused of "joining the network... which aims to overthrow the government and change the political and social regime of the state... (by) illegal means."

Most of the suspects are members of Haq, or the Movement of Liberties and Democracy, a splinter group of the main Shiite political organisation, the Islamic National Accord Association INAA.

Bahrain is ruled by a Sunni dynasty but has a Shiite majority population.

The archipelago state was plagued in the 1990s by a wave of Shiite-led unrest which has abated since the authorities launched steps to convert the Gulf emirate into a constitutional monarchy.

On Wednesday, Human Rights Watch (HRW) urged the Bahraini authorities to investigate allegations of torture made by four of the activists.

Singace, told Bahrain's attorney general in late August that he had been tortured by security forces while in detention over the previous 15 days, HRW said.

Now, if the Shias and those who seek freedom truly want to achieve their objectives, THIS IS A GOLDEN CHANCE! They must raise in masses and assure the freedom of their leaders and these activists. In the process they can strike harshly and hardly against the monarchy-dictatorial government.

Aside from Lebanese, the only people whom we should praise and admire is the Yemenis in the north of the country, they truly stood to seek justice, fight discrimination, punched the Zionist puppets on the face and were about to shake the foundation of Wahabism in Saudi Arabia, but unfortunately they got little or no help at all from their Shia brothers in the region. These Bahrainis, Kuwaitis or Saudis Shias are just whining all the time, but doing nothing important to bring a change. Complaining to HR orgs, UN or etc does no one any good, except make them look like some losers! These dictators are protected by the West and are insured, and going through such methods of fighting for democracy or freedom is not interested by those who preach democracy or freedom!

from my understanding of the bahraini problem, the main issues are:

1.) a sunni monarch in a shia majority country

2.) naturalization of sunnis from other countries to change the demography in bahrain and make it a sunni majority

3.) oppressing the shia opposition and lack of freedom and democracy.for example the parliamentary representation is not proportional to the shia percentage of the population.if the shias make up 70%,they should get 70% of the parliamentary seats in parliament, except if they vote for sunnis, which am sure is not the case.also the majlis al-shura which is selected by the king is a big problem for reform.

the bahrani shias need to know this point and do two things.the point is no one is going to help them if they dont unite as one bloc and make their cries heard as one.

the two things they need to do are:

1.) you no longer need to hide what you want and pretend and be hypocrites (but you must to be united to do this).you need to tell the world that you dont need this monarchy anymore.it should go away.or at least,it should be a limited monarch with at least a shia prime minister.the citizenship of the foreign sunnis who were naturalized should be revoked.and then parliament should reflect the shia percentage of the population.with the king being limited, then he would not be able to select people into positions.

2.) if the items stated in point 1 cannot be achieved,at least uniting all the shias and opposition to the monarchy in clear terms that it should go away are very possible.that is a possible first step instead.the second point then would be for these bahraini shias to prove their manhood right.get military training of a few thousand men anywhere possible and plan a lethal coup that will not fail.bahrain is a small place.staging a coup with able men should take hours.those bahraini forces should be easily beaten.

if the shias in bahrain really want their rights and want their voice to be heard and want to get rid of this oppression, they better start thinking straight and be practical to get things done rather than just talking and crying and rioting with burning tyres.the americans are not going to come in as was the case with saddam and the iraqi shia.

if the shias in bahrain really want their rights and want their voice to be heard and want to get rid of this oppression, they better start thinking straight and be practical to get things done rather than just talking and crying and rioting with burning tyres.the americans are not going to come in as was the case with saddam and the iraqi shia.

Well, the Shias in Iraq are no more free now than before. America rules Iraq and that's the fact. All that we see now is game playing as Iraqis have always done - which is why they've always been slaves. History is a testament to the reality that noone is going to 'free' you or 'save' you from anything unless you're going to do it yourself and follow through.

If our brethren in Bahrain, Iraq, Yemen, or anywhere else want their freedom for the sake of Allah Ta'ala, they're going to have to seize it themselves.

Demanding and begging for rights from another creature that's oppressing you is tantamount to shirk - and only leads one deeper into the cage.
