I recall one saying from nahjul balagha :

Do not talk about knowledge with the foolish so that they deny you, nor with the ignorant so that they find you oppressive, but talk about it with those of its people whom you meet who will accept it and understand it.

Thanks a lot brother. Do you (or anyone else) have the sermon numer in Nahjul Balagha it appears in? Or another quotable source? Much appreciated!

Salam

Though not exactly what you asked for but here is a hadith of Imam Jafar Sadiqas.gif:

السُّكوتُ على الأحمَقِ أفضَلُ (مِن) جَوابِهِ

'Maintaining silence with the fool is the best response.'

Ghurar al-Hikam, no. 1160

Imam Jaffar as-Sadiq said that arguing with a fool is like putting wood on a fire (Lantern of the Path, section 73).

Also relevant:

"When ignorance advances, there is darkness; when it retreats, there is light.... The key to ignorance is being satisfied with the knowledge one possess, and placing all one's trust in it (Lantern of the Path, section 33).
