Sex Scandal Rocks Iraqi Shia Establishment

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

A top-level Shia cleric has been defrocked over sexually explicit videos posted on the internet that have outraged devout communities across Iraq and tarnished the image of the sect's highest religious body.

Munaf Hamdan Naji al-Mosawi, a close aide to Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani for 11 years, has gone into hiding after intimate footage apparently recorded on his mobile phone ended up in the hands of neighbours who marched to his home in Amara to demand the return of their religious donations, according to IWPR sources - religious figures in Amara and Najaf, where Sistani's office is based...

Anyone have any more information? I can't seem to find anything else except a duplication of this article in Asia Times Online.

I'm flabbergasted. Maybe it's some propoganda aimed at defaming Ayatollah Sistani at a time when things seem to be settling down in his favour...?

"Really, I am astonished. For two days people have been telling me about this story, and I really have to consider whether or not to keep following the orders of the Marjaya and Sistani."

Talk about an over-reaction lol

i'm waiting for further confirmation of this news before i comment.

IWPR sources say the footage, which became public when Mosawi lost his phone's memory card, allegedly shows the cleric naked and involved in sexual acts with his wife and, in a separate video, another woman with whom he had a muta'a, or temporary marriage. Locals who have seen the complete contents of the card claim there are images of as many as 18 other women.

:!!!:

...i stand corrected. what a TOTAL gangsta lol

Asalaam Alaykom,

did anyone notice this is only on sunni forums and sunni blogs?

There is nothing of any national nature, nothing from the office of Ayatollah Sistani, nothing from anyone but sunnis...

films can be easily falsified these days, it is best to wait for some offiicial confimation or denial before speaking of these things, which could easily be lies against us in an attempt to make us look bad.

I'd just say that spreading false rumours about people, especially for an issue as serious as this, is a pretty serious crime in Islam.

Just make sure that a cheap laugh on the internet does not lead to extending toast time in the afterlife.

As far as I can tell, the only thing he did wrong was to make the recordings.

To err is human. If the son of Prophet Noah (A) could be corrupt, the wife of a Prophet Luth (A) could not be saved and the "companions" of Rasool Allah (S) could be taken away from him due to corruption...... whats the big deal if it happens with the "aide" of an Ayatullah????

If at the time of the Prophet his entourage was filled with hypocrites, why is it so hard to accept that today the hypocrites are also rampant?

True or not, this story only exposes people's blind following of leaders just because they speak under the banner of Islam. Look at most of you guys, already making it sound like a conspiracy when you haven't even verified the report.

My take as well, as he was married to them. Don't know if making recordings for personal use is wrong. I have never heard that it is. Not quite sure why it is a "scandal".

The accused person was not a leader and no one followed him.

As per the report he was just an "aide" or helper.

There are good and bad people in every society. The society as a whole cannot be blamed for the personal acts of an individual. Unless if they agree or support his deeds.

I never said it was a big deal. First of all, I don't think what the person did was that bad. I consider him to mainly be unlucky that these videos became public. Even if he had commited some major crime, I still won't use it to discredit anyone else other than him. I think it's just ridiculous to for anyone to use this minor incident to call into question Ayatollah Sistani's judgement. How is he supposed to know what kind of things a person does in private?

Actually, you are right. I'm just assuming that making recordings for personal use isn't allowed. The reason I assume that is because isn't it essentially making pornography, which must be haram?

his name is munaf alnaji who is sistanis attorney in south iraq

he committed adultery with many married women and taped it and a kid found his mobile phone and exposed him

the families have killed some of those women and have attacked the sistani offices and demanded sistani to punish him but there are claims that sistani is letting him get away under the excuse of protecting the mathhabs reputation

but the information is reports so its not confirmed but the scandal is confirmed as there was killings

Yeah, it might be true...I mean did everyone forget about temporary marriage?

Its just our lovely people should sometimes be careful with temporary marriage, especially people who have strong positions.

Temporary marriage with a dozen women and then filming it on top of that? Sounds like 'halal orgy'.

Well so what ?

whats so haram about it ?

He did multiple mut3a marriages, so what ? to go and kill the women who did it, and to punish people and try to discredit SISTANI because of an aide is kinda stupid

and for the record, how or why the hell is it haram to make a home made tape ? people need to mind their own business

Iraq is full of scandals and business, ill bet my legs a ransom was put out, he didnt pay it, now they are trying to defame him !

Like others have said, its those who distributed , fault, no one elses, its like me breaking into your house and stealing your home made tapes and then throwing them around online claiming your part time job is being a pornographic actor lol

I think Iraqis need to worry more about electricity, clean water , americans and saudis , before they do about who is having sex with who !

my 2 cents

Temporary marriage with a dozen women and then filming it on top of that? Sounds like 'halal orgy'.

nah i dont think he had a gang bang with 12 women

if he did, i hope it IS halal lol, because i have been missing out

Notice alimohammed40 said the women he had relations with were married. If this is the case it was not mutah.

everyone is missing the basic point here,,, munaf alnaji is accused of adultery not temporary marriage

his victims are married women ..... temporary or permanent marriage are both prohibited with a married woman

But they are not victims....they are participants. Both parties should have known better...disgusting.

married women, married women!!!

Married to whom. To other men or to Munaf AlNaji. :)

Also let's not assume anything just yet. Pretty soon, there will be some communique coming out from Najaf.

Making the video on a cell phone (or similar device) is not a big deal. You could put cameras anywhere and defame a person even if he is having sex with his own wife.

Anything to defame shias..... Maybe we should let these sunnis know that parents had sexual relations as well.. thats how they came into this world...

They seem to forget about all of the homosexuals and little boy loving pedophiles in their beloved Saudi Arabia.

News are still coming out from FASIQ. So let's wait and get news from the real sources, not from the rumor mills.

Ok lets assume its all a fact and woman were all married and they committed adultery, while a sin, it doesn't have anything to do with shiaism or with any other shia....

No it doesn't....it is just an example of someone with power behaving badly.....this happens from time to time in all communities.

Why would syaad sistani let him get away with it lool he should get punished more lool 1800 lushes would do ....

I wonder what hadith he used to justife his act .... Was up with people and tapes this days... Did he do it so he can blackmail them to have sex with him or did he record it for fame lool

At least he could have deleted the tapes lool

The woman are going to get the blame as usually....

And what the hell where these woman thinking ....why were they next to this man in the 1st place .. I would laugh if he showed them a hadith or something that made them do what they did...

And this man is representing the syaed....

That makes you wonder how people used to behave before modern technology. I bet they were just as bad if not worse in the past.
