Upon death of Grand Ayatollah His Eminence the Mujahid Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, Hizbullah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah issued the following statement:

In the name of God, Most Merciful, Most Gracious

To God we belong, and to Him we shall return, and there is no power or might but with God.

Today, we have lost a compassionate father, a wise guide, a fortified shelter, and a strong support that was present at all stages.

This is what His Eminence was to us, and to all this faithful, struggling, and resisting generation, since the time we were youths praying in his assembly (congregational prayers), guided by his words, and learning beneath his pulpit.

In his school, he taught us to advocate with wisdom and kind preaching, to be people of dialogue with others, to reject tyranny, to resist occupation, to adore meeting God the Almighty with certitude, and to be people of patience, steadfastness, and determination even with all the calamities, hardships, and distress we face.

To us, he was the teacher, instructor, the knowledge, and the light that lights up our way through every hardship.

Today, we lose him as he departs us and neighbors his Generous God, to whom he (Sayyed Fadlallah) has been struggling for the sake of throughout his honorable life.

However, his pure soul, enlightened intellect, kind words, compassionate smile, chaste biography, and firm stances, all that remains within us as a guide, conduit, and progressing strong motive that pushes us forth to continuous hard work and jihad.

On behalf of the mujahideen, the martyrs' families, the wounded and the liberated, as well as all the people of the resistance, I present our condolences to our Imam, Master of all time (Imam Mahdi a.s.), to our great scholars and authorities topped by His Eminence Imam Khamenie, and to all Muslims in General and the Lebanese in particular.

More particularly, to his (Fadlallah's) family, that family of knowledge, grace, jihad, and honor, we present our warmest condolences and the most sincere commiseration in this loss that struck our Ummah (nation).

We give a pledge to the chaste soul of our great master, that we will remain faithful to the sacred goals he lived, worked, and sacrificed for, day and night, and we promise to put our

utmost in the sake of this path god willing.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expressed his condolences over Lebanese Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah's passing.

In a message to Lebanese President Michel Sleiman, Ahmadinejad said, "The brilliant and valuable service of the honorable cleric for national unity and his perseverance with the resistance will live on in the history of Lebanon."

Grand Ayatollah Fadlallah died in Beirut's Bahman hospital on Sunday while placed under intensive care for internal bleeding.

He was regarded as Hezbollah's spiritual guide following its formation in 1982.

A vocal critic of the United States, Ayatollah Fadlallah used to slam US warmongering policies in the Middle East, particularly Washington's alliance with Israel.

Born in Najaf, Iraq, Fadlallah studied Islamic sciences in Najaf before moving to Lebanon in 1952.

Hizbullah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah visited the family of deceased Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah ( May His Soul Rest In Peace) in Bahman Hospital.

His Eminence Sayyed Nasrallah presented condolences on behalf of Hizbullah, expressing compassion and support to the family on this great loss.

His Eminence also recited Surat Al Fatiha over Fadlallah's chaste body.

A doctor at the Bahman hospital where he was admitted on Friday said he was conscious on arrival. The doctor said when a nurse asked the ailing cleric what he needed, he replied: “For the Zionist entity to cease to exist”

Fadlallah funeral set for Tuesday July 4, 2010

The funeral procession for cleric Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, who died Sunday, will begin at his home in Haret Hreik at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, his office announced in a statement.The procession will pass through the main neighborhoods of Beirut’s southern suburbs, and Fadlallah will be buried at the Hassanein mosque, it said.

Condolences are being received at the mosque daily from 9 a.m. until noon, and from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m., the statement said.

The cleric’s institutions and charitable societies have announced a week of mourning beginning on Monday.

Fadallah died on Sunday at Bahman hospital in Beirut after being admitted on Friday for internal bleeding. He was 75-years-old.

Grand Ayatollah Fadlallah passed away at Beirut's Bahman hospital on Sunday while placed under intensive care for internal bleeding.

The revered cleric served as the resistance's spiritual leader following its formation in 1982.

In a Monday message, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei described Grand Ayatollah Fadlallah as an "influential figure whose contributions Lebanon will never forget."

"He was also a true companion of the Islamic Republic who proved his loyalty to the Islamic Revolution in both words and action," the message added.

Through his sorrowful death, Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Mohamad Hussein Fadlullah accomplished his mission and joined Lebanese, all Lebanese regardless of their identities and sects, around him…

With his sad death, Ayatollah Sayyed Fadlullah made the headlines in Lebanon and the region as his lovers and supporters were unable to believe that this great man has actually passed away and that they wouldn't find him anymore ready to answer their questions, all their questions, including the sensitive ones…

Sayyed Fadlullah, who passed away on Sunday, was not a traditional cleric but one of a kind. His lovers, who used to have the passion of listening to him talking about everything and astonishing everyone, couldn't believe that they have lost him, that they have lost the humble and modest great man, the man they really loved for everything he represented, the man of made a whole generation really love God.

All Lebanese, from the so-called loyalty and opposition blocs, had one stance: the loss is a huge one, a loss that cannot be easily filled up. Yet, everyone believed that Sayyed Fadlullah won't die in terms of values and principle. His eminence will always be alive through his heritage in the minds of his lovers who will continue his path.

We have had a number of threads in the past discussing the fatwa's and opinions of the late marj'e. No doubt we will in the future as well. However this is not the thread for doing that.

^ This is what I have a problem with. I wouldn't even be in this thread if it wasn't for the fact that shiachat.com is making it look like Sayyid Falallah was seen as a marja and a mujtahid by the shia in general whilst in reality only a minority hold that opinion. I know that many of the moderators here do not consider him to be a mujtahid so why not have a more neutral title at the top of the page?
