So you become the Sheikh of the Summayads and start an epic online war with a bear lady and a left coast mother to nurse your numerous disappointments at the Maple Leafs.  Don't be like this Shaykh Patience101 and live in a mind numblingly boring town in Canada. Get rid of cable and choose Direct TV.

I don't have a TV either.

My pains of boredom are beyond comprehension.

Now I'll go back to my igloo and wait for hockey season.

Wait, so you guys are bored from lack of things to do?

I don't understand this.

I can understand being bored of the things you must do, but I've never experienced boredom from nothing to do.

It sounds nice. Maybe some day after I've gotten everything done that I need to do I can try it.

Why don't you just do things? Pick up a book or a paintbrush or a broom or a telescope or something. Or pick up the phone and call a family member or friend to visit.

The friend thing is out of the question and my family is always busy. Painting, I have to be in the right mood and mindset to do it. Same thing with the telescope, I use it when I need to, I never use it as entertainment, otherwise it loses its meaning to me. I don't bother calling people anymore either, they are "too busy "and I feel like an absolute idiot when they don't pick up the phone.

Boredom from nothing to do or ennui is what the average person experiences, I never really heard of people who are bored from doing chores only. In a way, I  have heard of such people but I blew it off as a myth.

Boredom from nothing to do feels nothing remotely nice,  I would describe it as a dull, numbing sense that slowly creeps up on you and before you know it, you are stuck in an unfeeling lethargy.

I am not merely bored from lack of things to do, I am bored from the isolation. It's kind of a situation that I can't really avoid. I can't speak for Shaykh Patience101 or zainabamy, but that's my case. But at least I have Shiachat and strategy games.

In a universe that expands infinitely outwards, a mind that descends infinitely inwards, an entire planet to explore, neighbours and hobby groups and communities to join, art to create, culture to enjoy, exotic foods to try, interesting places to visit and people to learn from....no one has the right to be bored! You darn young'uns! Youth is wasted on the young!

Hey there, I try to suggest things  to my mother and brother to take me to but it is as easy as picking a broken nose.

I don't think loneliness is the same thing as boredom, but it's why I tacked on the telephone suggestion.

No TV, but an Internet connection. That's 21st Century.

So what size refrigerator do you have in there?

In my igloo? I am the refrigerator.

Everything I see, I either eat or wear.

from insomnia to always sleepy :/

I took my first-ever medication for sleep yesterday, and still ended up not sleeping until past two.

@starlight How much training do normal doctors get for sleep-related problems? Should I seek a specialist?

Yes, you should probably see a specialist. But what sleep problem are you suffering from exactly, if you don't mind sharing?

Problems getting to sleep. Especially if I sleep late one night, it's almost impossible for me to sleep at the normal time the following night. I just don't fall asleep, no matter how long I lie in bed (even if I'm 100% tired and only had a couple of hours of sleep the previous night) until it's around the time I slept the night before. Also, aside from this, it takes a lot longer for me to go to sleep (at least an hour) than normal people, no matter what the time.

Have you a lot on your mind? i suggest trying a body scan meditation and if youre still awake after 30-45 mins try an audiobook. Theres one called 'An edible history of humanity' on youtube that sometimes helps me drop off. Its actually quite interesting but the voice is good for falling asleep. Theres one called 'The history of standard oil' that might help you slip into unconsciousness through sheer boredom (unless youre interested in that kind of thing O.o).

I have an audiobook of A Tale of Two Cities that I can't stay awake for even 5 minutes. The narrator/reader isn't bad, just very soothing.

So apparently there was some "mystery love interest" Beethoven had whom he referred to in his letters as "my immortal beloved." Nobody has figured out which "woman" he was referring to.

My question: what exactly is preventing us from inferring that he was referring to God?

Some folks want to project their own low level on others.

It's a free country, so she can vote for anything she wants.

This presidential election there are only two choices: Gary Johnson or Jill Stein. I don't really agree fully with the positions of either, but either of those two would be better than either major party thug.

Go Gary, 2016. Yay.

One of my favourite Dickens =) yes i agree that the voice quality is key. My favourite readers are Orson Welles, Richard Burton and Joanna Lumley. Theres quite a few of Orson Welles on YT because he did radio shows.

Is it haram for me to listen to rammstein while I do weight lifting? I might add that I do not understand a single word of what they are saying.

How about these? You can definitely argue for their permissability.

As it stands now, I'll have to vote for Trump to cancel my politically challenged sister's vote for Hillar.

Don't forget to vote in my poll in General Politics.
