Salaams,

Can a woman perform wudhu when in haidh...will it have any meaning or validity?

Salaamun alaykum wa Rahmatullah.

After she cleanses herself with water and changes her bloody pad, she can take wudhu and go and sit down in the place she normally prays, then make dua. Not prayer, just dua.

If she has a tasbeeh made of plastic, wood or stone (NOT TURBAT) she can do tasbeeh. Of course this dua and tasbeeh has lots of blessings and merits.

If this sitting and making dua or tasbeeh is a hardship for her, then it is not necessary. Many women cannot even focus on making dua when they are on "that time of the month."

Some of them are in bed with a hot water bottle on their lap, in pain and discomfort. May Allah SWT help them recover from this.

(wasalam)

482. It is Mustahab for a Haaez that when it is time for Namaz, she makes herself Pak by washing away blood, and changing the pad. Then she should make Wudhu or tayammum, whichever is applicable, and sit at the place meant for prayers facing Qibla and busy herself in recital, supplication and salutations (Salawat).

Just put this up. Seems this is a topic wherein there's a lot of misunderstanding amongst sisters (and brothers for that matter).

From Wasa’il ash-Shi`a, book of tahara, chapters on menstruation (al-hayd)

38 – Chapter on the ruling of the menstruating woman (al-ha’id) in regards to recitation of the Quran and touching it, and entrance to the masjid, and dhikr of Allah

1 – Muhammad b. Ya`qub from Muhammad b. Isma`il from al-Fadl b. Shadhan from Ibn Abi `Umayr and Hammad from Mu`awiya b. `Ammar from Abu `Abdillah (as). He said: The menstruating (woman) recites the Quran and praises of Allah.

40 – Chapter on the emphasis of the desirability of the wudu of the menstruating woman at every salat and facing the qibla and doing dhikr of Allah by the amount of her salat, and the desirability of her wudu when she wants to eat.

1 – Muhammad b. `Ali b. al-Hasan by his isnad from `Ubaydullah b. `Ali al-Halabi from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام. He said: And the women of the Prophet (sawa) would not do qada of salat when they menstruated, rather they would keep away when the time of salat would enter, and they would do wudu then sit close to the masjid and do dhikr of Allah `azza wa jalla.

2 – Muhammad b. Ya`qub from `Ali b. Ibrahim from his father and from Muhammad b. Isma`il from al-Fadl b. Shadhan all from Hammad b. `Isa from Hariz from Zurara from Abu Ja`far عليه السلام. He said: When the woman is menstruous (tamithan) then salat is not halal for her. And upon her is that she does wudu of the wudu of salat at the time of every salat. Then she sits in a pure place and does dhikr of Allah `azza wa jalla, and does tasbih of Him (saying “subhanAllah”), and does tahlil of Him (saying “la ilaha illAllah”), and does tahmid of Him (saying “al-hamdu lillah”), like the amount of her salat. Then she departs (?) for her need.

3 – And from him from his father from Ibn Abi `Umayr from `Ammar b. Marwan from Zayd ash-Shahham. He said: I heard Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام saying: It is befitting for the menstruating woman that she do wudu at the time of every salat, then she faces the qibla and does dhikr of Allah (to) the quantity of what she would pray.

And the Shaykh narrated it by his isnad from Muhammad b. Ya`qub likewise.

4 – And from him from his father from Hammad b. `Isa from Hariz [from Zurara – in al-Kafi] from Muhammad b. Muslim. He said: I asked Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام about the menstruating (woman), does she do purification on the day of jum`a and do dhikr of Allah? He said: As to the purification then no. However she does wudu in the time of salat, then faces the qibla and does dhikr of Allah ta`ala.

5 – And from Muhammad b. Isma`il from al-Fadl b. Shadhan from Ibn Abi `Umayr and Hammad from Mu`awiya b. `Ammar from Abu `Abdillah عليه السلام. He said: The menstruating woman does wudu when she wants to eat. And when it is the time of salat she does wudu and faces the qibla, and does tahlil, and does takbir, and recites the Quran, and does dhikr of Allah `azza wa jalla.
