Assalamu alaikum

According to sistani tasbih is preferred in the 3rd and 4th rakat of obligatory prayers but Surah Hamd is also allowed instead.

According to the Hanafis on the opinion of Imam Abu Hanifah, tasbih is allowed in the 3rd and 4th rakat as above. It simply isn't the prevailing sunni opinion (and the other way around for the shia)

I have seen ahadith about it (for shias) for don't remember them so I can't quote :(

Salam

We can technically pray surah hamd as well as tasbihat in 3rd and 4th rakats. The sunnis never pray tasbihat. Im just wondering does anyone know the hadith that narrates we should do tasbihat

WA wr wb.. i think *******.org has ahadith on it. you may want to check it out.

Qira'a in the last two rak`at and the tasbih in them

1 - 5034 - al-Husayn b. Muhammad from `Abdullah b. `Amir from `Ali b. Mahzyar from an-Nadr b. Suwayd from Muhammad b. Abi Hamza from Mu`awiya b. `Ammar. He said: I asked Abu `Abdillah (as) about qira'a behind the imam in the last two rak`a. So he said: The imam recites fatihat al-kitab and whoso is behind him does tasbih. And if you are alone, then do qira'a in them and (i.e. or) if you want then do tasbih.

5035 - 2 - ãÍãÏ Èä ÅÓãÇÚíá¡ Úä ÇáÝÖá Èä ÔÇÐÇä¡ Úä ÍãÇÏ Èä ÚíÓì¡ Úä ÍÑíÒ¡ Úä ÒÑÇÑÉ ÞÇá: ÞáÊ áÇÈí ÌÚÝÑ (Úáíå ÇáÓáÇã): ãÇ íÌÒÆ ãä ÇáÞæá Ýí ÇáÑßÚÊíä ÇáÇÎíÑÊíä¿ ÞÇá: Ãä ÊÞæá: " ÓÈÍÇä Çááå æÇáÍãÏ ááå æáÇ Åáå ÅáÇ Çááå æÇááå ÇßÈÑ " æÊßÈÑ æÊÑßÚ.

2 - 5035 - Muhammad b. Isma`il from al-Fadl b. Shadhan from Hammad b. `Isa from Hariz from Zurara. He said: I said to Abu Ja`far (as): What is allowed in the saying in the last two rak`a? He said: That you say "subhanAllahi wa 'l-hamdu lillahi wa la ilaha illAllahu wAllahu akbar" and do takbir and do ruku`.

And in Man La Yahdarahu al-Faqih:

1159 - æÑæì ÒÑÇÑÉ Úä ÃÈí ÌÚÝÑ Úáíå ÇáÓáÇã Ãäå ÞÇá : " áÇ ÊÞÑÃä ( 1 ) Ýí ÇáÑßÚÊíä ÇáÃÎíÑÊíä ãä ÇáÃÑÈÚ ÇáÑßÚÇÊ ÇáãÝÑæÖÇÊ ÔíÆÇ ÅãÇãÇ ßäÊ Ãæ ÛíÑ ÅãÇã ¡ ÞÇá : ÞáÊ ÝãÇ ÃÞæá ÝíåÇ ¿ ÞÇá : Åä ßäÊ ÅãÇãÇ Ãæ æÍÏß ÝÞá : ÓÈÍÇä Çááå æÇáÍãÏ ááå æáÇ Åáå ÅáÇ Çááå " ËáÇË ãÑÇÊ Êßãáå ÊÓÚ ÊÓÈíÍÇÊ Ëã ÊßÈÑ æÊÑßÚ " .

And Zurara narrated from Abu Ja`far (as) that he said: They (two) are not recited (or, do not recite) at all in the last two rak`ats from the four obligatory rak`ats, whether you are an imam or other than an imam. He said: So I said: So what do I say in them? He said: If you are an imam or alone by yourself, then say “subhanAllahi wa ‘l-hamdu lillah wa la ilaaha illAllah” three times, completing nine tasbihs, then do takbir and do ruku`.

And Wuhayb b. Hafs narrated from Abu Basir from Abu `Abdillah (as). He said: The least that is suffices for the saying in the last two rak`ats is three tasbihs that you say “subhanAllah subhanAllah subhanAllah.”

As to the reason why there is this distinction, the risala narrated from Fadl b. Shadhan which explains the reasons for the Shara`i narrated from Imam `Ali b. Musa ar-Rida (as) says that it is to distinguish what Allah made obligatory and what the Prophet (pbuh) made obligatory. That is, originally the salat were all two rak`a, so ten rak`a in total, but the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) added two rak`a at the end of zhuhr and `asr, one after maghrib and two after `isha, thus seventeen rak`a. Thus also (as explained in the same risala) the last two rak`a after zhuhr, `asr and `isha are dropped in travel (maghrib is not shortened as it is already shortened (i.e. by one)), as a mercy from Allah from the hardship of travel.
