Why did Imam Ali [a] take such a big risk?

This question must have been asked here hundreds on times but it is worth asking again.

A person who dies whilst having not given bayyah to the kahlifa, dies in the age of ignorance. Why did Imam Ali [a] risk joining the polytheists of jahiliyyah for at least six months? He could have died at any time during those six months.

Salams

As far as I know, the traditions mention that a person who dies without recognising/knowing the Imam of His age, dies in the state of ignorance. Imam Ali a.s was the Imam of His time (after the death of RasulAllah) even though He was forced to "officially" accept the political leadership of Abu Bakr (Abu Bakr didn't claim that he was an Islamic Leader/representative of the ummah). Also, Imam Ali did remind many people (as a formality/hujjat) and gave them references of the past to claim His Divine Leadership. In regards to religion and even other matters of everyday life, Imam Ali continued to support people who asked for assistance/help.

This speculation does not apply to Imam Ali. He is the heart of our Prophet alaihisalam. He is wali Allah. Do not even think he could act contrary to sharia. He is not anybody. He is Shere Khoda. He needs no risks. Some authentic reports say 6 months, others do not say that. Its a genuine difference of opinion. Ask yourself, what was Imam Ali karamallahu wajhu doing in those 'six months' during the khilafa of Sayyidna Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu? Was he protesting Sayyidna Abu Bakr radiallahu anhu as Twelvers assume, or was he right by his side, living only a few yards from Abu Bakr's house. Both of them did not have palaces you know. They both had extremely humble dwellings in eachother's view. Imam Ali would come out of his house every morning, and Sayyida Fatima and they could see Abu Bakr's house as clear as they could see eachother.

There was much love between the families of Prophet (pbuh) and Shaikhain. Shaikhain did not attend the funeral of Prophet (pbuh) because there more concern was Khilafat. Fatima (as) through her (a.s) will asked Ali (a.s) to not to allow them in her (a.s) funeral. Ali (a.s) did not attend their funeral. LOL
