An Iraqi web site has raised the possibility that Iraqi politician Abdul Aziz Hakim's illness might be a result of an assassination attempt.

The Iraqi news web site Jaridat Hawarat al-Electroniya quoted Dr. Samir Jersis, an Iraqi specialist with the Cancer Institute as saying that Hakim told him he had drunk a cup of coffee in a banquet hosted by Jordanian King Abdullah during a visit to Jordan in 2007. According to Dr. Jersis, after two and a half hours, Hakim suffered from intense abdominal pain.

Based on the report, Hakim, then, returned to Iraq and consulted with his personal doctor, who failed to diagnose his disease. By that time, the leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council lost twenty kilograms, he started losing his hair and vomited bloody substances.

The report added, after a visit to Tehran, he met with specialist Dr. Akbar Montazeri who ordered laboratory tests which proved that Hakim had been poisoned with Thallium, a chemical used by the Saddam regime for assassinating dissidents. The chemical was also used by Jordan for silencing those Iraqi dissidents who lived in Jordan or visited the country during the Saddam era.

The report claimed after evidence proved that the assassination attempt was masterminded by the Jordanian Intelligence Service, Hakim decided to bring forward the case with the Jordanian side through Iraqi official channels.

However, Ryan Crocker, the US Ambassador to Baghdad, who had been informed about the decision, held a meeting with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and prevented contacts being made with Jordan or informing the media.

Hakim was diagnosed with lung and urinary tract cancers and he had earlier received treatment in Iran.

AW you brought so sensitive item on the desk.

I can believe Jordanian's king and their intelligence hate toward Shi`ietes but not PRESS TV. Moreover , SCSRI want to gain out of this report at the time of elections. So the report might be fabricated to get political gains.

SIIC denies Hakim was poisoned

Mon, 03 Nov 2008 11:53:49 GMT

The Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council has denied reports that the council's Chief Abdul Aziz Hakim was poisoned during a trip to Jordan in 2007.

In an interview with ISNA, the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council (SIIC) representative in Tehran, Majed Ghamas, strongly rejected the allegation that Hakim was poisoned in Jordan.

On Sunday, Iraqi news website Jaridat Hawarat al-Electroniya released a report that Hakim had been poisoned in a banquet hosted by Jordan's King Abdullah during a visit in 2007.

The report alleged that after a visit to Tehran, Hakim met with specialist Dr. Akbar Montazeri.

Based on the report, Montazeri ordered laboratory tests that proved Hakim had been poisoned with Thallium, a chemical used by the Saddam regime for assassinating dissidents. The chemical was also used by Jordan for silencing Iraqi dissidents who lived in Jordan or visited the country during the Saddam era, the report claimed.

Majed Ghamas declared that the details of the report were totally unfounded and pure fabrication. He added that there was no one named Dr. Akbar Montazeri in Hakim's medical team.

Ghamas concluded by saying that the reports are aimed at severing ties between the two countries.

Please don't give credence to such stories. Half of them are fabricated to develop a fear psychosis among people. The very same agency brings out this story and the next day it denies it. How contradictory.
