I Got A Swimsuit!

Salam alaikum,

So my mom bought me a splashgear swimsuit for mothers day. For all of you who havent seen them.... go to the website. I believe they are the most modest ones you can buy. I got the resort pants which are a loose fitting ankle length pant with a virtually instant dry material. The shirt is a surfer rashguard type material but is almost knee length. Also there is a tight hijab that fits great and wont move. I am so excited that this summer i can enjoy the beaches and pools with out wearing heavy jeans and mens shirts!!!! To me Splashgear seems to be the best swimsuits out there for muslimahs and priced better also.

The swim suit appears to be hijabic!

Congrats sis for finding one!

they make a thing called watersocks to cover the feet...you can buy them at walmart. How can you swim in front of nahmahrams???? how can you walk in front of them? What if you drop something and have to bend down to pick it up? Perhaps we should all just sit at home to prevent any nahmahram from looking at us??? give me a break please!!! Listen we are muslim women and that doesnt mean we cant enjoy life. I love to swim and i will be swimming my a** off literally this summer..lol

I ordered the long shirt with the pants and the shirt goes almost down to the knee. The pants are very loose.....what is the big deal?

Assalaamualaykum sister,

I was merely making a point that hijab is more than just a covering.

Swimming is not like walking like you described. The two actions/body movements are very different. You mentioned about bending down to pick up something infront of nahmahrams and i would just say to you that i would turn around and pick it up decently when they couldnt see me or after they leave. I do this infront of my father too. walking is a neccessity and swimming isnt.

Its ofcourse much better that you wear the best hijab you can find if you are forced to go swimming in a mixed pool.

Its very sad that their arnt enough pools where its only women and their kids are allowed too.

Salaam

This is my favorite suit!!!

http://www.ahiida.com/index.php?a=details&...=180&page=1

Too bad the price is insane. :P

Veiled get off your high horse, please sister. :P This one is modest. ;)

As i already said, it is not only the hijab but the action. If you want me to get sexually explicit i will but i fear i will get banned so i can pms you if wish.

I am talking about serious stroke swimming like what i do at a pool. I would rather be in a normal swimming costume and be comfortable with women than dress in armour and feel uncomfortable doing the strokes i like infront of men. But all you want to do is splash about, then thats for you to decide.

As i said before on a thread that i think they forgot to put something in my information booklet of Islam when i decided to take religion seriously and so please forgive me if i sound like i am talking down to you and i will forgive you for rudeness, inshaAllah. but wait, you probably dont even think you were rude right by adding that smilie?

I agree with sr. Veiled, what is the use of wearing that in a mixed pool if you're going to get completely wet and be doing the strokes?

Doesn't it just defeat the purpose of hijab.

Isn't hijab a lot more than just making sure your skin doesn't show.

Sisters,in my opinion people should take bath, keep their clothes clean and sit in an air conditioned room rather than go out and swim which is unIslamic.

If you want to enjoy summer season, you can enjoy in so many other ways . Just ask everyone what you can do to enjoy the summer season other than go swimming.

Salaam alaikum, For followers of Ayatollah Sayed Sistani (May Allah grant him a long life)

Q101: Is a Muslim permitted to go to mixed swimming pools [men and women] without a suspicious motive, especially when they (women) remove the dress of modesty from themselves and would not desist if asked to do so?

A: Although looking without a suspicious motive and lust at those who are scantily dressed and would not desist if asked to do so is permissible, presence in these places of moral depravity is absolutely not permissible based on precaution. (MMS, p. 25, Q45)

Assalam alaykum,

The Aussie version of those swimsuits are made by sis Aheda - Ahiida Swimwear

Just thought I'd throw in some comments/testimonials from Muslims and non-Muslims alike: http://www.ahiida.com/index.php?a=testimonials

These cover a bit better because they are longer to cover down to the knees, but once you get in the water they do cling a bit, and you have to wear socks still. Even with this on (I have one), after using it, I don't feel it is appropriate to use in a mixed pool. Most scholars prohibit going to a mixed pool anyway because of the dress of the others there. I have used it for a water aerobics class that was all women, but I ended up quitting because even while it was all women occasionally some men would be in the area swimming laps or just walking around and realized in the water it was a bit too form-fitting for my comfort. At the beach it might still be okay, if one just wants to walk in the water and not get fully in, and maybe for Sr. Smiley's use of just taking her kids - Allah swt knows best or definitely for all women, but then you probably wouldn't need it anyway.

Some people may ask why is not good enough when it covers? It is because there are several aspects to hijab. Covering is just one. In the end it does come down to a bit of personal judgment and I can understand people may feel differently. All we can hope is whatever decision anyone makes they are trying to do what is truly right and not "bend" because they really want something to be right but really they have a bit of doubt about it. It is better to avoid the doubtful things.

See http://masooma.blogspot.com/2008/04/hijab.html for explanation about hijab if you like.

wa alaaykum salaam

Swimming in itself is a recommended act - Prophet (saw) said we are obliged to teach our children swimming. But baligh females and males need to find a single sex environment to swim, and if they cannot, then they should abstain. It is probably the best exercise possible.
