This topic needs more attention.

I'm still working on The Pale Blue Dot, by Carl Sagan, and I've been struggling through Dark Money, by Jane Meyer, for almost all year, but I'd like recommendations of dystopian or utopian reading. Brief description is appreciated but not essential - I've got Google.

I finished reading Call of Cthulhu and the Nameless City by H.P. Lovecraft.

I want to read that now.

Did you check the list at wikipedia?

I'm gonna sound lame but, I've not read a novel/book since I was in highschool.

I've read poetry here, and there; and then mathematical/statistical books, historical books/encyclopedias..online.

I used to love reading but... *shrug*

I went through that too. I was an avid reader as a child, but then got busy with life and only found time to read textbooks and technical texts.  I found my way back when I got my first eBook reader. I came preloaded with 100 classics and fit easily in my purse.

I do, but as @notmeput it,  Life has hijacked my time.  It seems I need to break through the technology bubble.

Maybe I just need someone to read me a book xD.

I used to read music too, not just listen, and then write some.

Audiobooks?

@wmehar2 don't laugh. If you have a long commute or routine extended wait times, audiobooks can be quite satisfying. Check your local library - I bet they have some, maybe even to download so you don't even have to go there.

Wasn't quite laughing at the idea, was laughing because it feels weird to be read to by a prerecorded device,  I'd end up playing with some speed setting to make the audio sound funny.

Unfortunately I don't beleive I have the capacity to drive and hear something like a story or even music.

I drive with nothing playing (hyper focus issues).  It's too distracting for me :/

I need to literally sit, with an allocated time slot, and read or hear a book.

Those are some of my favourite books! Dystopian fiction is really great, because it makes you think. I would also add Farenheit 911 to the list.

If you want a recommendation for something more on Islamic themes, then you can check out "The Ark of Salvation". It's a newly released book about the life of Imam Husayn (AS), in the form of an epic poem.

Wonders of the Universe, by Brian Cox. I've just started, but it's beautiful so far. I'm reading the ebook version. I might have to check whether the library has a hard copy so I can really see the photos.

https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/observations/why-are-white-men-stockpiling-guns/      :hahaha:

For a good laugh, read this blog in Scientific American.  This is Hysterical.

Supposedly, 3% of Americans "own half" of the 500+million guns in the US.  Where are the necessary warehouses?

lf 3% of 332 million -or 9.96 million "white men"- is roughly 25 guns per said individual. Other than gunfighters in movies, most people do not use more than one at a time.

25 guns would necessitate several different kinds of ammunition. Plus a lot of money that the economically insecure "white men" in this article  do not have.

And why are these "white men" "buying" all these guns?  Racism.  :hahaha:

The propagandist for this article is a Jeremy Adam Smith.

Just finished Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. It's kind of depressing, though it tries to end on a hopeful note. That could have been me, you, any of us, if not for fortune. Very good read though. Highly recommend.

Why angry reaction emoji? I've only started the book. Have you read it? Is it bad or religiously problematic in some way? The discussion of the confluence of science and spirituality is an interesting topic to me.
