The modus operandi of Aunty Shameem

ISLAMABAD: Aunty Shamim, who is said to have many closely guarded secrets which have the potential of rocking the high and mighty of the country, was allegedly running a brothel.

It was learnt on authority that the woman uprooted recently by the Jamia Hafsa students used to lure young women searching for job to support their families. The agents of Aunty Shamim were on the look-out for young women who were hard-pressed by circumstances and wanted some job to feed their families. They were lured into this business with the promise of a job.

The modus operandi of the aunty is said to have been very discreet and safe. She was conscious of the fact that it would not be possible for a young woman to be away from house at odd hours, let alone for a night. She had fixed her business hours to coincide with the normal office hours.

This unusual sex business was open to all and sundry in G-6/1 Sector from 9am to 2pm sharp. Sunday used to be a closed day while due deference was paid to Friday as business was closed by noon. She allegedly enjoyed full protection of the Aabpara police as she greased the right palms. In return the police provided her protection.

She was known as a well-connected woman, as she was never touched by any law-enforcement agency despite several complaints lodged by the neighbours and others.

Background interviews reveal that the exploited women had to pay 70 per cent of the earnings to the aunty and could retain only 30 per cent as their fee.

The working hours were not displayed at the main entrance of the centre. These were, however, known to the regular visitors, including the uniformed policemen.

I searched for a job for more than seven months after the death of my husband, who worked as a supervisor in a private firm. I failed to get a suitable job, as wherever I went I was overtly or covertly asked for sexual favours, a young widow, 'N', told this correspondent in an interview.

In the beginning, I fell into the hands of a dirty old man, the widow in her late twenties said. The old man had employed me as a personal secretary in his office in Blue Area but later exploited me sexually.

Later, she was somehow introduced to Aunty Shamim, who received her affectionately and behaved like a "mother. She was thus forced by circumstances to accept her offer. She agreed to sell her body to earn money as starvation loomed over her family. She had to feed her children as well as old parents. She told her in-laws and parents that she was working with a semi-governmental organisation.

The aunty got 70 per cent of the total earned money because she paid as much as 35 per cent to the area police, she alleged.

It is a dirty but very lucrative job," she said and maintained, In this trade in Islamabad one can make millions within a few months.

Dozens of women were involved in this trade, she said, adding that most of them were educated and had told their families that they were employed in some private organisations. The women spent five hours in the brothel during the office timings and left an hour before the office hours, she revealed.

The police provided complete protection to the business and the business centre, 'T', who used to be second-in-command of Aunty Shamim alleged.

The police used to inform us well before time if there was to be any raid. In fact, the area police were running the sex trade, she said and asserted, No one could dare take on us because of the police shelter.

Besides the young widow 'N', three other women, on Saturday met this correspondent in The News Bureau Office and claimed that they had been associated with Aunty Shamim and wanted to expose her.

Aunty Shamim was said to be so highly connected that she was never touched by any law-enforcement agency despite several complaints lodged by the neighbours and others. However, recently after she was kidnapped by the Jamia Hafsa students and made to announce that she would stop this business, Aunty Shamim left for some unknown destination.

First off the topic:

It is neither my place nor style to discuss the beliefs or person of others. I, however, give below my understanding of some issues discussed or touched earlier:

  • I am a muqallid of one of the living jurisconsults. However, in consonance with the decree of most jurisconsults on this topic, I understand that taqleed is not mandatory, in that there are other alternatives available for finding out ahkaam-e-sharia. So, a non-muqallid can be as much, if not more, of a Shi'a than I am.
  • I subscribe to the theory of wilayat-e-faqih. However, I understand that there has been difference of opinion among ulema of great stature on this theory.
  • Dushman means ‘enemy’ not ‘opponent’.
  • No one is beyond fallibility other than the prophets and Imams (pbut) appointed by Allah and the Lady of the Paradise (as) . However, [a] it was despite their having this knowledge that we were given the instructions by our Imams (pbuh) to act as quoted in my signature, and [b] ulema starting from Yaqub-e-Kulayni (ra) and right through Shuhada-e-Awwal, Thani & Thalith (ra) and many others are the only source through which deen-e-haq has reached us. Those who insult ulema are, therefore, most unfortunate.
  • Many Pakistani Shias have not only stayed in their homeland despite opportunities abroad including those in the lands of taghut despite specific threats to their life and honour, but also tried to actively serve the Imam (af) to the best of their ability despite the circumstances. The following words are therefore a brutal insult to such Shi’as many of whom have already laid down their lives, while others remain on hit lists:

Now on the topic:

  • Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa have been built largely on usurped land that had been allocated for public welfare projects by the government.
  • I am not aware of the source of income of Syeda Shamim Fatima Naqvi (aka Aunty Shamim), but a look at the ill-maintained state of the quarter in sector G-6 where she lives indicates her paucity of income.
  • Her husband Syed Matloob Hussain Naqvi was a section officer and was allotted this house for use while in service. Upon his death, their son Kamran Mehdi joined government service as a clerk. He is thus not entitled to the much sought after residence that they have continued to live in, thus causing ill will among neighbours.
  • The Lal Masjid mullas have identified another 56 ‘brothels’ in sector G-6 against which action is due upon expiry of their ultimatum. No marks for guessing that all 56 are Shi’a households.
  • You may recall that a year or two ago two girls related to the bombing planner of Haidri Masjid and Ali Raza Masjid were apprehended, and it was found out that they were among young ladies being trained for suicide bombing by an Uzbek woman. After that incident, most of the remaining batch was transferred to Jamia Hafsa. So, many of the binaat-e-Hafsa that we regularly see on our TV screens may be part of the death squad.

and you might add Military Generals who become lap dogs for imperialists - and a whole host of others in Pakistan ...

there is infact, according to a recent census, only one person in Pakistan who is not the most easily bought commodity in Pakistan.

Everything else that you see are just lies, everything! TV, radio, maulvis, politicians, reports about brothels (there is infact no traffic of women going through Pakistan) - infact there is not even any poverty in Pakistan. Everyone in Pakistan is a multi-billionaires, and they are the richer than rich.

Poverty in Pakistan, just as prostitution, soft and hard pron sold and distributed openly, are mythologies that are being created by the maulvis so that they can deceive the population into thinking that there is a problem. There is no problem.

The Land Grab behind the Lal Masjid / Jamia Hafsa drama

Ninjas from the Jamia Hafsa have been illegally occupying the children’s library. Mind you it is the only public children’s library in the capital city of Islamabad. That alone says some things about the priorities of our people but lets save that for a later thread. When I first heard the news, I was a little bemused and thought this was just going to be a 1-2 day sit-in, civil disobedience action. Three months into the occupation, it clearly is much more.

A lot has been said about the illegal nature of the ninja occupation. Blogistan has been afire with threads and comments in all direction from all view points. The story has been picked up by all major international media. But surprisingly there has been little investigation into the motives. I was a pleasantly surprised to find a new angle on the whole thing. Most of what follows is me paraphrasing this article and parsing it out for an easier, comprehensible read.

The library under occupation happens to be just down the street from the Madrassa. In between lie three plots of land. The library and these parcels of land are owned by the Ministry of Education, through its arms: the Department of Libraries and the National Book Foundation. The land it seem, was obtained for future expansion of the children’s library. But a few years ago the madrassa, it seems decided to usurp the land for its own benefit. They expanded onto the street, back into the green belt, and sideways onto library property. No one from the ministry or CDA was able to challenge this land grab effectively.

Then the recent demolition by CDA of some illegally constructed mosques probably sent shivers up the spine the (mis)management of Lal masjid. They were guilty of the same crimes and could be next in line for the demo squad. And therein he seems to have hatched a great plan to save his gaddi(seat). He was going to be proactive about protecting his illegal construction. The occupation of the library by the Ninja squad starts making sense now. The terrorizing of the neighborhood has a new context now.

In short time the madrassa started expanding Jamia Hafsa and building on the vacant plots of land of the Dept. of Education. And they built enough to expand their capacity from a paltry 500 students to the 5000+ they are housing now. Whoa! Were the owner ministry and the city government caught snoozing. Not really but they do seem unwilling to act forcefully. Read on.

The construction of a small part of Jamia Hafsa was initiated in 1999 behind Children Library. It was in late 2002 that it was extended on the land owned by two departments of the Ministry of Education. This illegal construction on ministry land must have enjoyed tacit support from the Islamabad administration for they took no action against the encroachment.

On May 3, 2003, the then Secretary Education, Tariq Farooq wrote a letter to Chairman CDA to get the plot vacated but nothing was done. When CDA failed to get the land vacated, the Education Minister, Lt.Gen (retd) Javed Ashraf Qazi, officially requested the Interior Minister, Aftab Sherpao on December 31, 2004 “to look into the matter personally and direct CDA to arrange possession of land to department of libraries at the earliest.” The interior minister did not respond to that request and since then neither Javed Ashraf.

The then Chairman of National Book Foundation, Ahmed Faraz also lodged FIR against Maulana Abdullah’s sons, Ghazi Abdul Rashid and Maulana Abdul Aziz over encroachment of the land. CDA then intervened and offered a place in lieu of those two plots. Unfortunately, department of libraries didn’t get any substitute plot and also lost in January 2007 the possession of Children Library, which was providing healthy entertainment to a number of children.

Interestingly, General(retd.) Qazi, who is also former DG ISI, intervened to the extent that when the female students of Jamia Hafsa invaded Children Library in January 2007 to settle their scores with the government, he did not give a single statement over such an unlawful act.

So the good general seems to have no qualms about giving up the rightful claims of the department he is supposed to be a guardian of in favor of the ISI’s old partners at Lal Masjid.

Reaction from CDA: According to the sources, after the land was bought in 2001, first CDA delayed handing over the possession to the ministry and then the land was encroached. Since then Ministry of Education has been officially requesting CDA to hand over the possession of those three plots. CDA in turn has been requesting Deputy Commissioner for taking action. Those three plots, holding a tall building of Jamia Hafsa as of now, actually belong to the two of the departments of Ministry of Education. The payment of two plots was made by the National Book Foundation and of one by the Department of Libraries.

Acting Chairman CDA, Kamran Qureshi substantiated the fact that the land belongs to National Book Foundation and Department of Libraries. “It’s certainly encroached and we have sent almost over 120 notices to them and also to Islamabad administration but no action was taken by the Deputy Commissioner,” said Kamran Qureshi.

According to a senior official of Islamabad administration, “the administration should have done something if CDA had requested. And CDA could also use its enforcement staff if it actually wanted to get the land vacated.”

Reaction from Interior Ministry: When Sherpao was asked about the illegal construction of Jamia Hafsa in 3 to 4 years on the land owned by Ministry of Education right next to Children Library, he denied having any such information about the ownership of land and saying rather annoyingly, “your information is not correct and the madrassah has been there since long. How can it be constructed within such a short time period.”

Initially the minister could not differentiate between the Jamia Hafsa and Jamia Faridia. He thought that contentious Jamia Hafsa was located in E-7. The Interior Minister, who is supposedly dealing with the issue, doesn’t even know that the female students, who are a hindrance in any action taken by the police to arrest the kingpin Ghazi Abdul Rashid, were a very small part of Lal Masjid. They have burgeoned in 3 to 4 years. Either he is helpless or he wants to disown the fact that Ministry of Education did bring the matter to his notice and requested him to get involved personally but for some reason he had to turn a deaf ear to it.

Reaction of the Police: In 2004 the then IG Islamabad and SP entered Lal Masjid to arrest wanted Ghazi and his brother Maulana Abdul Rashid, but the female students came to their rescue.” “Consequently the IG was transfered. Such an action taken against the IG by the government has strengthened them even more.”

On 21st January, an FIR was lodged by watchman Muhammad Ehsan of the Children Library, against the Jamia Hafsa students over illegally occupying the library. Since then the FIR seems to have languished on govt. desk. The police look on from afar but are powerless to act, as the generalisimo atop the chain of command seem to have lost his wits.

When IG Islamabad, Iftikhar Ahmed was questioned about the delayed action against Ghazi and about the lethal charges against him in 2004, he responded, “I assure you, we will arrest him and the law will take its course. We are only being careful about taking any action against him since he has taken refuge behind those female students.” He further said, “Those FIRs against him still stand and we are waiting for the right time but whenever the action is taken, we are afraid, may result in bloodshed.”

If you thought that was the extent of the land grab, think again. The Lal Masjid itself is under illegal occupation of the mullah brothers. You see the mosque is a property of the Department of Auqaf. The Khateeb (guy who leads prayer services and says the khutba on Fridays) and the muazin (dude with the good voice who sings the azaan-call to prayers) are employess of and appointed and paid by the department of Auqaf. Read on.

Deputy Director Auqaf, Malik Afsar said, “Ghazi’s presence in Lal Msjid is due to his brother Maulana Abdul Aziz who was employed as khateeb of Lal Masjid in 1998 after his father was slain. Although we terminated his services as khateeb in 2004 but he is residing there in blatant violation of law.”

He said, “Auqaf department has nothing to do with the matter since it was sent to district administration and AC is looking into the it. Officially the khateeb and muazan of Lal Msjid is Ayub Abid.” So will the real khateeb and muazin of the Lal Masjid please stand up, please stand up.

On the whole the article makes for a depressing read. This is a city, a country, in which the ordinary citizen cannot get his basic rights. But the generals, and the gaddi nasheen politicians, and the bureaucrats, and the mullahs steal with impunity. While we the citizens are fighting, in the blogistan and on the streets of Pakistan, about what if any Islam’s role should be in the running of our country. The poverty pimps and the jihad [Edited Out]s are playing us all like puppets.

The modus operandi of Aunty Shameem

For the record, this is the same newspaper that has, in its print edition of this morning, published an apology, as ordered by the Supreme Court, for having earlier published false news about some of its judges.

Also for the record, no brothel was shut down, rather four females of a family - the youngest Syeda Shahzenan Naqvi barely six months old - were dragged from their house by male and female gangsters from Lal Masjid and Hafsa Brigade.

Even if one was to believe - though no evidence has yet been furnished - that Syeda Shamim Fatima Naqvi was running a brothel, and through some stretch of Deobandi imagination this 'justifies' her kidnapping why did the Deobandi gangsters also kidnap three other females of the family, including Shamim's six month old grand-daughter Shahzenan.

Is there more than meets the eye?

It's a he.

I wouldn't have used the the osrt of language you have used. Each to his own ideas, and each to his own burden.

The fact of the matter is that, as has been done before in Pakistan, the establishment used the maulvis at the Jamia Fradia and Jamia Hafsa to make a point and send across a message to certain interests outside Pakistan; cruelly besmirching the reputation of a Sayyed family for all time.

For the record, this is the same newspaper that has, in its print edition of this morning, published an apology, as ordered by the Supreme Court, for having earlier published false news about some of its judges.

Is there more than meets the eye?

There certainly is.

Whether people are cognizant of the fact or not, an anti-Shia movement has been actively nurtured in the Indian Sub-continent since the mid 1920s. One of the high points of this movement was the "Madeh-Sahabah" - "Tabbarah" agitation of the mid 1930s in which quite a few died.

After partition by the BRitish, the Indian dominion chose a secular path, and at least, Shia-Sunni friction in India has never been what it has been and is in Pakisatn.

The mid 1930s were also the times when, for the first time, in Lahore, the ziyarat-e-Taaboot-e-Imam Hasan 'alaihissalaam was attacked and descrated.

This ziyarat was was the brainchild of Allameh Mirza Ahmad Ali, who was the moving spirit behind Anjuman-e-Asghariyyeh, and the Shia Young Men's Association The ziyarat procession initally used to culminate at Karbala Gaamay Shah, as with the main 'Aashoor Zuljenah procession, as well as the Chehlum T'aazeyh procession from Haveli Alif Shah Sahab.

In 1936, the mala'een in the Kashmiri Bazar area [the bazaar from purani kotwali to sonehri masjid] strung up old shoes, sandals etc. across the road. The procession turned back, and since then its route has been what it is these days.

I narrated the above just to bring home certain facts that have been obscured by the dust of history and the ignorance [or willful turning of a blind eye] of the unity brigade.

This anti-Shia movement is still very much alive, well and kicking Shia ass whenever it gets the chance. And it gets and creates that aplenty.

What happened with Sayyedeh Shamim Fatima Naqvi is just one more example.

Look forward to more of the same, brother mine, and try to sing peaens of ittehad-e-bayn-al-"muslimeen".

Making rude personal remarks - especially about matters one has no control over - rather than remaining on the topic normally indicates one's inability to respond logically to the argument of the person upon whom one is directing his/her attack.

May Allah enable us to learn to adhere to Islamic courtesy when communicating with each other.

I've spoke with US soldiers who prefer Pakistan/Afghanistan because of Pakistani prostitutes.

One would have expected no less from the Great Satan's soldiers! ;)

However, it seems that speaking the truth and knowledge of international geography are not strengths of the soldiers you spoke to: not many US soldiers are posted in Pakistan, and the ones that are, do not have contact with Pakistani public. Pakistani prostitutes can have enough clientele within their country, and do not need to migrate to Afghanistan, of all places, to ply their trade.

Relying on hearsay, and that too from the Great Satan's soldiers, can be misleading!

I never questioned your awareness of what you are doing.

However, since it is being done on a public forum, others are also automatically aware of it and the way it is being done. I am out of it insofar as I will never become party to rude personal remarks, especially of a nature where the matter being remarked about is beyond the commented person's control.

However, all input placed on this public board is open to comment by all other members. and to comment on that (rather than the person of the inputter) is my right, the exercise of which I shall continue as and when I find it appropriate.

Completely agreed,

I've seen this 'aalamdar' make same types of remarks against the same member in a lot of topics, seems he's obsessed with her, and what's the point in using the urdu language in this section, is it because he doesn't want others to know what he's saying? Be a man and speak english and let everyone know what you really are.
