Our Sunni brothers say anyone who is a Muslim will go to heaven eventually. For example, someone who kills millions will go to hell but will one day be in heaven.

Do us Shias believe this too?

Salaam,

We too believe that eventually all Muslims will goto Heaven.

However, our definition of Muslim is much more strict than theirs - and we believe that someone who could kill literally millions of innocents could never truly be a Muslim. I presume you and the sunni dude are referring to Saddam - according to the Islamic concept of Justice, we follow the Quran.

The Quran says the following, quite clearly, about those who intentionally kill believers.

004.093

YUSUFALI: If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense is Hell, to abide therein (For ever): And the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a dreadful penalty is prepared for him.

PICKTHAL: Whoso slayeth a believer of set purpose, his reward is hell for ever. Allah is wroth against him and He hath cursed him and prepared for him an awful doom.

SHAKIR: And whoever kills a believer intentionally, his punishment is hell; he shall abide in it, and Allah will send His wrath on him and curse him and prepare for him a painful chastisement.

I too have gotten into arguments with sunnis on the same topic, and time and time again they repeatedly ignore this verse of the Quran.

All Pious Muslims will go to Heaven. Just calling yourself a Muslim and claiming to follow Islam does not qualify. You have to follow the religion with your heart and follow the pillars.

Ask the Sunni if he/she feels that a person who commits greater sins such as Murder would be entitled to Heaven.

Just one notice. You talked to individuals who are Sunnis but they might not necessarily represent the Sunni sect accurately. Have you read about that in Sunni's books? If yes, please give me references.

Actually, I noticed that there are two major problems (as far as I remember now) in people speeches:

1. People usually talk without giving references.

2. People usually talk as if they represent the idea of their sects or religions.

Finally, Imam Ali (as) said: "The truth is not known by men, but find the truth and you will find its men."

Salaam aleykum redman,

We do believe that only Mushrikin, munafiqeen and rejectors of faith[Kuffars] will burn in hellfire forever.

There are some muslims [criminal muslims]burning in hellfire for some time, other muslims waits for judgement for some time[surah al a3raf] and other muslims[Mu'min] enter paradise.

There is evidence for this in Quran and Hadith.

The reason why we say muslim criminals burn in hellfire for some time but enter paradise is because of Shahada and the Mercy of Allah swt.

Let me put example; a shia muslim kills 10 million innocent people but he believes in Imamah. Will he go to hellfire forever? Or will he burn in hellfire for some time but enter paradise because he believed that Ali was the first caliph>Imam?

As a Sunni, I was taught that the non-believers who were truly misguided will go to Jannah, Insha'Allah. I still believe this.

We should believe the same, as I know of two authentic Hadith that tell of men in Hell/men sent to Hell whom Allah forgave and admitted them into Jannah.

Let me put example; a shia muslim kills 10 million innocent people but he believes in Imamah. Will he go to hellfire forever? Or will he burn in hellfire for some time but enter paradise because he believed that Ali was the first caliph>Imam?

You can't call a murderer a Shia, nor can you call them a Sunni, nor can you call them a Muslim.

Also, it's all up to Allah who goes to Jannah and who goes to Jahannam and whoes repentence He'll accept, etc.
