^Ya; heard the same sorta jazz. I actaully ate it once when I was very new to Canada also thinking it's just fish so it's halal. Then someone told us it's haram and then a lot of people told us it's haram lol.

But I can tell you one thing: IT WAS DISGUSTING AND TINY! It was nothing compared to the one I had in Saudi.

Anyways; try not to buy from McDonalds anymore, no matter which country

Salam Alaikum,

I remember someone telling me they use the same oil to fry the fish and burgers. Not sure if that's true or not.

no silly, they got totally different friers, the fish filet has its own seperate fryer which has veggie oil

I wrote to the Halal Food Authority here in the UK and they confirmed that the fish fillet and other burgers/fries are seperately cooked and use veggie oil.

But I haven't been to Maccies for a long time, we have so many halal chicken & chips shops here in the UK.

Here's information on different McDonald's foods:

In the USA - The ingredients must be slaughtered Islamically, and since there's a high chance that they weren't, we must assume that the McDonald's Fries and the Hashbrowns are Haraam (in order to be safe). They add beef tallow to the fries during the frying process. McDonald's was successfully sued in 2002 for lying about this (they claimed that their fries were vegetarian). McDonald's had to pay $10 million, which was distributed among some Hindus (Hindus can't eat beef), Sikhs, Muslims, and vegetarians. This lawsuit was filed in seperate cases all close together, and it happened in the USA and Canada.

In Canada - The ingredients must be slaughtered Islamically, and since there's a high chance that they weren't, we must assume that the McDonald's Fries and the Hashbrowns are Haraam (in order to be safe). They use an Animal/Vegetable Shortening (not Animal or Vegetable Shortening, but Animal AND Vegetable Shortening). The lawsuits mentioned above in the USA section also hit Canada. When it comes to the fish, the McDonald's resaurants in Canada (ONLY, to the best of my knowledge) use purely vegetable oil in their Fish, so the Fish is Halal.

In places outside of Canada and the USA - "Most" of the resaurants on't use any beef in their Fries, thus making their Fries Halal. HOWEVER, I don'thave anymore information so you'll have to check out the McDonald's website for your country and look at the ingredients. If you don't have the website or for whatever reason you can't check the ingredients, then you must assume that the Fries and Fish are Haraam just to be safe.

Okay, burger king's website says they use one fryer for their pork meat and their fish so you cant eat the fish there, however you can eat the fries cuz thats vegetable oil and they fry them alone.

McDonald's you can eat the fish burger i was told by Muslim sisters who went and asked and check those are fried separately, but you cant eat the fries because of the oil.

Any pizza place that you go to you should ask them before hand how they make their cheese and veggie pizzas because sometimes they use the same counter tops with the same oils for all pizzas, and sometimes pans.

Wasalam.

^^^ yah i think its lard but not sure but i dont eat from there anymore dont remember the last time i had it

(salam)

right as far as Mc D's here in england is concerned its best to stay away, although up until a couple of years ago pork fat (lard) was used a a preservation factor in most of their food including fries i'm not aware of any changes as of yet, but hey its always better to be safe.

I don't know about other stores but at my local one they use the same gloves to pack the beef burgers as they do to pack the fish/veggies burgers.

As for pizza hut i have yet to see a store that cooks thier meat pizza's and vegitarian pizza's seperatly so a big no no there.

hope that helps

TARTAR SAUCE HARAM??? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Salaam Alaykum

Tartar Sauce is made using chopped up pickles, Mayo, onions, and some herbs. Mayo and the pickles are made with Vinegar, and Vinegar is Halal to consume but Haraam to make. So basically, Tartar Sauce is Halal.

However, McDonald's likes to add extra stuff to their condiments, so I'm not sure about the McDonald's Tartar Sauce. I'm talking about Tartar Sauce in general.
