People who lie often can be very annoying. Even when they do it as a joke... it should be avoided. Lying can ruin relationships, friendships, a lot of things.....

Imam Ali (as) says that "Honesty is the most divine language."

If only people would understand the importance of honesty.

A lie simply says how much the liar values your trust --- zilch.

More often than not, lying is a tiny part of a bigger problem at hand. Such people are by and large in need of help.

Also lying comes under Haram. So it is not just a matter of annoyance, it is to be detested with all one's heart.

A lie simply says how much the liar values your trust --- zilch.

That is true, but just about. Lying has more often to do with a person's own fears and insecurities about him/herself than due to lack of confidence in the person being lied to.

However I would keep your statement in mind henceforth. I HAVE to :)

* When we devote ourselves to being very religious and knowledgable, yet totally forget the importance of exercising good akhlaq, kindness, and understanding towards others.

* When we are quick to judge, accuse, or dislike others rather than at least try to understand their motivations. The very important thing to remember is: everybody has a story, and every story of every person has a potentially huge impact on how they act and who they are... If we don't understand someone's story first, how can we expect to pass fair judgments on what they say or do? **

** Quick, shallow, but real-life example:

X aunty in the masjid burps repeatedly after dinner, making no move to repress the unsavory act. You find yourself really put off and disgusted... Only to find out later that the poor lady has acid reflux disease.

* When we attach too many strings and contentions to religious belief and focus too much on the concrete laws and regulations, overlooking the abstract and spiritual aspects of faith. Since when was the pinnacle of piety reached by alerting oneself of the haram-ness of potato chips?

* How easily annoyed we get nowadays, and how a lot of our annoyance probably comes from a lack of tolerance in us, rather than an annoyingness inherent in the subject.

Mawlanas who slap their knee after uttering something seemingly very intelligent and say "Aaye haye haye, kyaa baat keh dee mayn nay" [Wow! What a fantastic thing I have said]

LOL bohot khoob... I'd like to meet the guy who started that, must've been quite a character.

~ When some denounce Americans and/or American cultural as somehow inherently and exclusively the most morally corrupt of all cultures in the universe;

Americans are the worst...not just the obvious aspects though.

Majbooree?

My emphasis on it has to do with the one who made that statement and the lies being perpetrated. Call it "majboori" if you may.

I did not realise that the definition of piety had changed. What is piety, if not the observance of Halal and Haram, and what is wara` if not that AND the struggle to gather information on a thing's permissibility, even if it is perfectly alright for one to consider it so or to refrain from it, if there's the slightest iota of doubt?

Until and unless, there's a retaliatory (rude) gesture to the thing that annoys, there is NO lack of tolerance.

Americans are the worst...not just the obvious aspects though.

American citizens are from so many different and diverse ethnic, religious, and national backgrounds from around the world - almost all of which are not native to this land, except for of course Native American tribes - how could anyone lump them all together to conclude they are "the worst"? I just don't get it; but maybe I'm biased because I am an American and I find it difficult to accept that many from among my fellow muslim ummah believes I have the most morally corrupt culture in the world particularly since my customs before I became a muslim were just as morally positive with similar convictions as they are now that I'm muslim.

Allahu alim.

Download a variety of speeches audio or video, by Urdu speeaking or Punjabi/Sindhi Mawlanas, suffer through a sampling, and you are bound to come up with a dozen or so different ones with certainty -- if not those exact words, a phrase to that intent and purport.

I won't name any names.
