I just wanted to know that how do we give nazar/niaz? What do we have to read? Say if a person is facing some problems and wants to do nazar niaz, than how should he do it? What is the method of doing it.

If you are facing some problems, just do it the way the Ahlul Bayt (as) did it (read Surat al Dahr, verse #7 and its tafseer>> http://al-islam.org/quran/process.asp?tAra...isplay=windows). Make a vow that if your problems are resolved, you'd observe fast or offer some superogatory prayers or read some supplication or ziyaraat or give something in charity, instead of saying that you'd listen to a story or offer a "chaddar" or things like that.

Do we have to inform our parents before doing the Nazr?

Salaam.

Depends. If you live off your own money ie you are independent and if you are going to pay the expenses of the Nadhr from your earnings, then most probably you do not need anyone's permission, however it may be wise to check how you will arrange the donation of Niyaaz/Need itself.

Should you be living or be dependent upon someone elses money, be it your parents, guardians, spouse etc, then before making the Nadhr/Oath one must seek permission from their provider as one cannot force this expense on anyone. However if whoever you are dependent on has given this money to you for yourself and you decide to use that for the niyaazmand/needy persons then it is ok.

Salaam.

Nadhr (oath) for the Niyaaz (needy)... means to make a Nadhr (ie to request Allah that upon fulfilling a Dua or Haajaat) one shall serve food or other means to the needy and poor.

Many times people become confused with Niyaaz and Tabarruk/ Faatihah.

Niyaaz is food specifically served for the poor (niyaaz literally means 'need'). Niyaaz can be served for any personal reasons ie Nadhr or Fi-Sabiylillah or Faatihah. Whereas Faatihah is food sevred for the thawaab of Marhumin thus persons taking part to share/eat the Faatihah food should also recite a Surah al-Faatihah and pray of the dead and particularly the dead of whom the food was donated on behalf from. Tabarruk is food served for joyous or Fi-Sabiylillah or any other reasons. However alot of people serve their donated Faatihah to the poor as means of more thawaab - so it becomes both Niyaaz and Faatihah as to achieve blessings of both acts.

Should one make a Nadhr of Niyaaz, then upon the Haajat being fulfilled, one should as soon as posible arrange for food for some needy persons be it for some families or randomly to the poor, in ones best means. If there are no poor and needy locally then money can be sent abroad to help the poor buy food instead. My mother usually donates money to a poor orphange to arrange for a Majlis followed by a generous meal of meat and rice for the orphans.
