Salam Alaykom, I've been a Twitter user myself for a very long time and honestly i don't think that i have ever come across a more toxic platform. There is so much division amongst members of society and religious sects on it. There are countless arguments on a daily basis amongst sects and other groups. At first i thought it due to Twitter's young users however this isn't the case, you get many full grown adults arguing on a daily basis too. It's as if they feed off it. What's your take on this? Do you share the same opinion?

In Iran, currently the Suprem Leader Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Hussain Al-Khamenei ( May Allah Lengthen His Life )banned the practices of online chatting and other protocols following the same aspect. Many ignorant lads are going against this jurisdiction. But if they could use their brain for once in a while instead of their naked eyes, they could've easily understood the eligibility of this system. In Facebook, there are many private groups which are made in terms of inappropriate and illegal means. They are not only illegal according to Islam but also violating the general human resources. Like, when I had a Facebook account, I saw a group named “ Teen Friendship 13-19 ", as I was 16 at that time, I joined in that group. But hilariously, this group was a stock of images of the members there with captions like “ I'm 16, inbox me " and the other one gave me that much shock that I couldn't get rid of it for a number of months. It was “ I'm 13, rate 1-10 ". Most of the group members were Indians, Philippines etc. No doubt, there were Muslims too. This corruption is developing a nuisance which is harmful to all children. So Facebook is illegal as it looks likes a city where you can find both bars and mosques. This disturbing mixture makes the entire city ethically and rationally impure. Indeed, Twitter has its own criteria, abode of fake news generated by Western officials and non-veiled pictures of female celebrities. So there doesn't need any further discussion about why Twitter is Haram. For the same reasons, when Iran should also ban others like Instagram, Pinterest, VK, okdoklassniki, Reddit, Tumblr, one Iranian official started to light her cigarette with a text covering the smoke “ Not only Facebook, but also other services should also be provided without any restriction. " I mean what kind of official of an Islamic Republic country talks like this. These [Edited Out]ed up officials including Rouhani should add further restrictions on the social media sites which give youth the opportunities to commit zina, bettings and other ethically illegal activities like these. 1st Imam- Imam Ali bin Abu Talib once said, “ Don't be seen in places that are suspect, otherwise you yourself will look suspect. "

I can relate to it in the context of a couple of discussion boards (which I've outgrown) but I can't relate to it when it comes to popular social media platforms like those mentioned in tags. I don't have twitter or instagram or viber or whatever. I have a very old FB account which remains idle most of the year except lately when I've needed to use frequently to administer a travel group and do only and only that. But it seems social media is fast becoming a health hazard and a social crisis. I'm sure there are people among the readers who suffer from the addiction. How do you tackle it and what do you think about "social media addiction?"

(bismillah) (salam) Recently, I had been playing with Twitter data, specifically for the purpose of mapping tweeters that tweet Shi'ite messages during the first 10 days of Muharram. My hope was that we will extract a large data set, comprising Shi'ites tweeting about Ashura, Karbala, or Syed al Shuhada (as). My aim was to plot large Shi'ite communities across the world, from Pakistan to Japan, UAE to South Africa, and from the UK to Western American states. However, after extracting our data, I realised that out of the complete data set, only some tweeters had enabled their Location-tracking service - this meant that a large number of tweeters could not be mapped. Nonetheless... A blog post about the graphic may be read here, and an R script for generating the graph here. This graphic was inspired by the amazing night time world photograph, taken by NASA, and James Cheshire's work. (wasalam)

Soo title says it all. All over twitter everyone is hash-tagging this joke of a trend. Basically, they try and justify how they are muslim, but they do NOTHING that makes them a muslim, to the contrary (hypocrisy). I dont want to spread this garbage, but I just wanted to post this thread to show that this just shows you how people are truly. You can change but its almost never possible. Your previous beliefs, thoughts, attractions, liking, will always influence your current faith and beliefs. Some are posting how they are a muslim but they dont wear hijab, or they listen to death metal. Some even go as far as saying some pretty disgusting stuff. Some say yes, I am a muslim and I party. Dont get me wrong, probably 85-90% of the tweets are like it, but some do have Islamic inclined tweets which brings some hope again. I just dont get this "im a muslim, but I dont do anything Allah tells me to do" mentality.... Im not hear to judge people on whether they are go or bad people, but im here to call them out on their hypocrisy. If they are actual "Muslims" who are trending this  Check it out for yourself: https://twitter.com/search?q=%23NotYourStockMuslim&src=tren

Something similar was reported last year as well. The program is covert i.e. students are to hide the fact that they're being paid to write positively about the Israeli regime. Students offered grants if they tweet pro-Israeli propaganda In a campaign to improve its image abroad, the Israeli government plans to provide scholarships to hundreds of students at its seven universities in exchange for their making pro-Israel Facebook posts and tweets to foreign audiences. The students making the posts will not reveal online that they are funded by the Israeli government, according to correspondence about the plan revealed in the Haaretz newspaper. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, which will oversee the programme, confirmed its launch and wrote that its aim was to “strengthen Israeli public diplomacy and make it fit the changes in the means of information consumption”. The government’s hand is to be invisible to the foreign audiences. Daniel Seaman, the official who has been planning the effort, wrote in a letter on 5 August to a body authorising government projects that “the idea requires not making the role of the state stand out and therefore it is necessary to adhere to great involvement of the students themselves, without political linkage or affiliation”. According to the plan, students are to be organised into units at each university, with a chief co-ordinator who receives a full scholarship, three desk co-ordinators for language, graphics and research who receive lesser scholarships and students termed “activists” who will receive a “minimal scholarship”. Mr Netanyahu’s aides said the main topics the units would address related to political and security issues, combating calls to boycott Israel and combating efforts to question Israel’s legitimacy. The officials said the students would stress Israeli democratic values, freedom of religion and pluralism. But Alon Liel, the doveish former director-general of the Israeli foreign ministry, criticised the plan as “quite disgusting”. “University students should be educated to think freely. When you buy the mind of a student, he becomes a puppet of the Israeli government grant,” he said. “You can give a grant to do social work or teach but not to do propaganda on controversial issues for the government.” http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/students-offered-grants-if-they-tweet-proisraeli-propaganda-8760142.html
