  7. Salaam alaikoum, Does anyone know which supplication this is: One of the most important etiquette and instruction is the recital of Surah al-Qadr (Power) before taking Suhur and iftar as well as recital of illustrious and illuminated supplication: “Allahuma rabb al-nur al-'adheem” (Allah is the possessor of great illumination) which has been given book of Iqbal written by the most esteemed and famous scholar Sayyid ibn Tawus. About this supplication it has been narrated from Imam al-Sadiq [a] that the Holy Prophet has recommended recital of this prayer to Commander of the Faithful Imam 'Ali [a] and said that Archangel Gabriel came to me and said: “Whoever in the Holy Month of Ramadhan before iftar recites this prayer, Allah answers his prayer, accepts his prayer and fasting, grants his ten requirements, forgives his sins, removes his grief, makes his heart at ease, grants his wishes, makes his deeds to ascend upward with the deeds of Prophets and righteous saints, and on the Day of Judgement brings him to His presence with a face illuminated like bright moon.”
  8. Assalamu wa’alaykom brothers and sisters. I know that Du’a al Nudba is recommended to be recited on Friday mornings. But my question is whether it is recommended to be recited before or after sunrise? I’ve read on some websites that it is recommended to recite it before sunrise, while on other websites I’ve read it’s recommended to be recited after?? Can someone please clear this confusion. Jazakallah khayr

  10. We often hear about the importance of dua, dua being the weapon of a believer etc. There are recommendations of the best methodology of dua, some of it's conditions, and how to increase our chances of getting it answered etc. Eg. have wudu, praise Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى, thank him, be sincere, and for better chances of acceptance supplicate during thahajjud in the middle of the night, before breaking fast, after the obligatory prayers, in Qunoot, in Sujood, in congragation, in the Masjid, on Fridays, before the sunset, when it is raining etc, when alone, etc. But does dua really work? Do we have any empirical evidence for it? Do we have any proof of it? Because if you look at countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, and how the people there all make supplications with sincerity day and night. You know, "Oh Allah bless us of the good in this world and the next and save us from the hell fire". "Bring peace and harmony to our country", "Bless me with wealth, knowledge, etc". Yet what do we see? Chaos, bloodshed, poverty, ... Compare that to say the Scandinavians, Australia, Canada, where almost non of the people supplicate there, majority are either atheists or not religious, yet they are living a peaceful, comfortable and blissful life. So does dua really work? Please explain. Thanks
  11. Selam alaycom, Inshalla everyone here knows how to do (and does) the obligatory acts of worship. However, there are many recomended acts that you might not know about. Inshalla I'll be posting some recommended daily duas, prayers, amaal and ziyarats here. This first one here is a gift from me, that some of you might need in other forums here on shiachat. Dua for scorpion bite At the place of scorpion bite salt should be poured and then recite Sura “Al-Kafiroon” (Ch: 109), Sura “Al-Falaq” (Ch: 113) and Sura “Al-Nas” (Ch: 114) one time each. Peace, Um Ali
  12. I go to the gym because I am trying to better my mental and physical health but I noticed I can not work out without listening to music. When I'm done working out, instead of feeling rejoiced I feel guilty. What is recommended? I am not fluent in Arabic so I really don't understand nashids. Is it better if I just listen to beats with no lyrics?
  13. It is a paper and you won't find it in English anywhere. Adab of Dua(Methods of Dua) or how you supplicate so that is accepted by God Almighty. Here is the list: 1)search for the right time, there are very important times for supplication(Dua), like the night of Thursday, Friday, Day of Arafah, Month of Ramadhan, in the morning(after morning prayer), Nights of Qadr, etc. 2)search for holy and pure sites and places, like holy mosques, Masjid al-Haram(the Holy Mosque), Holy Shrines of Imam Ma'someen, especially Haram/Shrine of the Holy Prophet(s) and the Shrine of Aba Abdillah al-Hussain; the acceptance of Dua in Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain is guaranteed in traditions, Haram of the sons and daughters of Imams, etc. 3)during Nuzul of Rahmah, while God's mercy is bestowed upon us, like during rain and snow and ... between Adhan and Iqama, after Wajib Salaat(five obligatory prayers) and ... are states in which responding(Istijabat) of Dua is very close 4)wearing pure clothes during supplication, tahir, good smell etc. 5)having Wudhu(ritual purity) 6)facing the Qibla is one of Adab(etiquette) of Dua 7)begging like beggars towards God, keeping up the hands to the sky, while supplicating 8)praying with humbleness and piety following part two, God willing...
  14. On the twenty-forth of Dhu’l-Hijjah, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) invited the Christians of Najran that each party would invoke Almighty Allah’s curse upon the liars among them so that the truthful party would be distinguished and the lying party would be cursed. The Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) put on a cloak and embraced Imam Ali, Lady Fatimah al-Zahra’, Imam al-Hasan, and Imam al-Husayn - peace be upon them - and prayed Almighty Allah, saying, “O Allah, verily, each Prophet had a family members whom were the nearest to him. O Allah, these are my Household; so, (please do) remove uncleanness from them and purify them with thorough purification.” Immediately after that, Archangel Gabriel descended carrying the Verse of Purification. Then, the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.) accompanied his family members as his partners in the process of invoking Almighty Allah’s curse upon the lying party. As soon as the Christians’ eyes fell on the Holy Prophet’s household, they realized that those individuals were the most truthful and that chastisement would be the share of anyone who would oppose them. They therefore did not dare to participate in that invocation of curse and, instead, they agreed to pay a tribute (jizyah) to the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.a.). On the twenty-fourth of Dhu’l-Hijjah too, Imam Ali Ameer al-Momineen(a.s.), while he was offering a prayer and, more precisely, while he was in the genuflection of that prayer, gave his ring as alms to a poor who was begging in the mosque. Therefore, Almighty Allah revealed the holy verses (5:55-56) The recommended acts on this day are as follows: First: It is recommended to bathe oneself on this day (Ritual bath) Second: It is recommended to observe fasting Third: It is recommended to offer a two unit prayer that should be similar to the two unit prayer that is offered on the ‘Id al-Ghadir Day in form, time, and even reward. The only difference is that Ayah al-Kursi should be recited with the two verses following. Fourth: It is recommended to say Dua al-Mubahalah, which is similar to the famous supplicatory prayer known as Dua al-Baha’ that is said at the last hours of Ramadan nights (i.e. sahar). Nevertheless, a little difference in this supplication is noticed between the version of Shaykh al-Tusi and the version of Sayyid Ibn Tawus. I will thus choose the earlier one that is recorded in Shaykh al-Tusi’s book of Misbah al-Mutahajjid and reported from Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq(a.s.)
  15. بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Assalam o Alaikum, Wa Rehmatullah, Wa Barakatuhu. Anyone who looks around modern society will quickly notice the many blessings of technology and scientific advancement. As Muslims we recognize that these are blessings from our beloved Creator who provided us with the means to achieve peace and success. We also see, as a result of people straying from God and His message, the ugly side of modernity. Without divine guidance, the evils of seeking power and open indulgence in our desires have led to major individual as well as societal corruption. A true believer realizes that he or she is in need of detailed guidance as well as the forgiveness of God to protect himself from his own ego and carnal desires. As a result of this humility and awareness of God, the believers say: رَبَّنَا اصْرِفْ عَنَّا عَذَابَ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ إِنَّ عَذَابَهَا كَانَ غَرَامًا "Our Lord, avert from us the punishment of Hell. Indeed, its punishment is ever adhering" [Furqan 65] True believers are in a state of trying to please Allah by following His guidance and when they slip up the slightest bit, they are seeking His forgiveness. You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshipped except You. You created me and I am your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have committed. I acknowledge your favor upon me and I knowledge my sins, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except you.” http://www.sunnah.com/urn/2055180 اللهم اغفر للمسلمين والمسلمات, والمؤمنين والمؤمنات, الأحياء منهم والأموات الى يوم الدين O Allah, forgive the Muslim men and Muslim women, the believing men and the believing women, the alive from them and the dead till judjment day. May Allah guide all of us to true teachings of Quran and Sunnah of His Beloved Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.W. AMEEN SUM AMEEN.
When My servants ask you about Me, [tell them that] I am indeed near. I answer the supplicant’s call when he calls Me. So let them respond to Me, and let them have faith in Me, so that they may fare rightly (Al-Baqara, 186) The supplicants are so much favored by Allah that He uses Me, My, and I seven times in this verse to show His favor to them. This affectionate relationship is held in case man wants to supplicate to Allah. But, Why isn’t sometimes our supplication answered? We read in Tafsīr al-Mīzān that in this verse Allah says, ﴾I answer the supplicant’s call when he calls Me.﴿ That is, I (Allah) Myself answer the supplicant’s call if they only call Me and ask Me goodness with full sincerity. So, if the supplication is not answered, it is either because we have not asked Allah for goodness and indeed it has evil for us, or if it has really been goodness, we have not asked it from Allah with sincerity and honesty and it has been along asking it from someone else, too. Or else, the fulfilling of our request is not to our interest, in which case, according to the traditions, a calamity would be kept away from us instead, or it would be saved for our own future or for our generation, or it would be made up for in our life Hereafter. We read in Uṣūl al-Kāfī, “Whoever eats unlawful (ḥarām) food or does not command right or forbid wrong, or supplicates out of negligence and heedlessness their supplication would not be answered. Perhaps, joining supplication verse with the verses of fasting is because the Month of Allah is more proportionate with supplication.

  20. Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah one of the best worship during the month of Ramadhan is reciting supplication of Abū Hamz al-Thumālī. I love this supplication and I learn many thing form this great supplication. Imam Ali Zayn al-Abidin used to recited this supplication in the nights of Ramadhan. I will mention evey day during this month some part of this supplication with some notes. ...... (O my Lord & God & love ) I knew of You by You, (i know you by your wish and your mercy. just you can to introduce yourself to me,without you I never can know you .. so my lord give me more knowledge of yourself to me) and You directed me to You,(If I know you and love you is just for your mercy and your favor, without your wish and your favor maybe I was misleaded and never can love you ... so my love give me more love of you and more lead) and called me to You, (I'm just slave, in fact i'm nothing, I don't have capacity to talk with you,you are lord but i'm a slave. your bigger than any description but i'm nothing and less of anything, any way you allow me to talk with you and called me to be with you. It is the bast for me to have allowance for calling and praying to you. So my beast give me more capacity and more attention to you in pray time) and without You I would not have known what You are (so only you can show and introduce yourself to your slaves,i beg you to show me more of your knowledge and mercy. )
