Salam. At first I want to say thank you for accept me in this forum. I'm trying to get a better understanding about Shia Islam, and have many doubts. This is one: As I understand Ayatollah Khomeini drove a political revolution which was inseparable of spiritual goals. As I read before enter into political arena Khomeini was in Quom studing many things, also philosophy and mystic knowledge ('irfan). And when he became leader of the social and politic transformation of Iran this knowledge guided him. Is right? But, I see in different shia places (websites, blogs, etc) that today the anti western feelings are dominant, and the spiritual goals are not so clear. For example: Some shia people likes cuban revolution (Fidel Castro's revolution) and North Korea government because they are anti west. My problem about that is this: Castro and Kim (North Korea leader) are declared atheistic men. So those revolutions really have nothing to do with a spiritual revolution as Khomeini made. Those are or were materialistic revolutions... then, perhaps those are farest from iran's spirit than many western people. So, I ask you: the politicization of Shia Islam has not diverted (at least in part) the course of revolution? I am asking it with genuine good willing. I'm not trying to deny shia values. Is a real doubt. So, please do not take it as a lack of respect. If can give some light about that I'll be thankful.
