  1. Assalam-O-Alaikum My Shia Brothers in Islam. My question is, What are Proofs of Shia for Intercession? Is intercession still allowed after death, I mean after passing away of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and Ahlul-Bayt? What about saints? Is it appropriate to go at the grave of a saint and Intercession through them? Jazaak Allah Khair !!!
  2. i never understood the meaning of ghaibat some say he has a special dress that makes him completally invisible for the human eye (and het cant be seen by anyone) and there are also saying that he dwells trough the world but isn't getting recognised, I also heard that our imam (عليه السلام) is not only in occulation for the human eye but also for the unmaterialistic- life such as djins.. and what we often forget how about khidr (عليه السلام) i know allah sends khidr when as company to not feel lonely.. but is he himself too in a ghaibat?

Bismillah i Rahman i Raheem Assalaam o 'Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah i Wa Barakaatuh I recall listening to a Majlis where the speaker mentioned the story of Prophet 'Isma'il (عليه السلام), but not the son of Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام), rather another prophet with the same name. The story goes that the people he preached to put him through severe suffering (of which I will not go in the details here unless asked to) and an angel descended and asked him if he would like to curse these people. The Prophet 'Isma'il (عليه السلام) replied that he does not want that, and instead just wants his name to be among the names of the martyrs of Karbala. Recently, I tried to find out who this Prophet was, and I think he might be Prophet 'Isma'il (Sadiq al-wa'd) (عليه السلام), he was listed separate from Prophet 'Isma'il (عليه السلام) son of Prophet Ibrahim (عليه السلام) on wikishia's page on prophets. So my first question, can anyone help me in learning more about this Prophet 'Isma'il (عليه السلام)? My second question, is this prophet in fact Prophet 'Isma'il (Sadiq al-wa'd) (عليه السلام)? I would appreciate any and all help, this is a very interesting topic to me since I am fascinated by the history of Islam as well, and would like to spread knowledge to my family about this.   4. Two questions related to each other. 1/ What would be the Arabic word for 'Prophet' in the sense of 'giving predictions about the future' ? My limited understanding is that Nabi is about Naba' I.e. giver of (good?) news. But does this mean news about the long term future, like End of times ? 2/ What would be examples of prophecies delivered by Nabi Muhammad (sawas) ? I can think of Zumar, Zalzala and other obvious descriptions of Yowm al Qiyama, but almost nothing about what will happen in History, except for maybe Al Rum, and Ya'juj and Ma'juj. Biblical texts on the contrary were filled with predictions of what would happen to such and such king. Please share your knowledge.
  5. Assalamo alaikum, I was wondering whether there were any Prophets that were black or of very dark colour? If there were, who they were, and how do we know for sure about the colours. Also, what about the prominent Prophets, such as Hazrat Isa (A.S.), Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S.), and others, what complexion where they of? It's just a general curiosity, and I'm not targeting any sensitive topics or such, just want to gain some knowledge because as i've grown being taught about such personalities, but for some odd reason i'd only think of them as white or fair prophets, i guess its just how we've been wired to think, even as children, even though i don't remember my parents or teachers ever specifying such a thing.   6. Hey, I wanted to create this thread and, as a Baha'i, I am interested in creating a HEALTHY debate about whether or not Baha'u'llah and the Bab are truly prophets. I would request from all those who would like to comment to not insult anyone, including Baha'u'llah, the Bab. This is meant to be a healthy conversation. FYI, I speak perfect Arabic so I have no problem explaining things in Arabic or verses, etc. from the Baha'i writings.
  7. Asalam Alaykum everyone, It may be a childish question but please answer I'm very curious. In heaven, what do you do exactly? I know there is gardens and beautiful luxurious houses etc., but can you do things like fly, teleport, super speed, etc.? What age do you enter in? I heard we all enter in as adults, so babies like Imam Hussain's (a) son will enter heaven as an adult, and so will Mohsen ibn Ali (a) I heard we will all enter in the form of Nabi Adam (a), and the females in the form of Hawaa (eve). Is this true? If so how will we recognize prophet from prophet or imam from imam, or loved one from loved one? Also, when you go to heaven; do you still have relations with your family members? (mom,dad, children, etc.) And when you are in heaven, I know there are 7 levels/stages of heaven, does this mean if you are in any level other than 7, you cannot meet or see a prophet or imam, or holy personality? I hope this isn't the case, I really hope it isn't. That would be so terrible for me. Can you meet or request to see someone on a higher or lower level than you? SubhanAllah...
  8. Salaam brothers and sisters, I am a new Shia and am always asked questions by my family (who are for the most part okay with my conversion from Sunni to Shia). I was asked "Asking others to pray for you is recommended and encouraged. The issue is how can someone who is dead (eg. Rasullallah PBUH, the Imams, Wali) pray for us?". What evidence in the Quran and Sunnah of Muhammad (PBUH) and the Ahlul Bayt that one who is dead can make prayers for us? Authentic Scholarly sources are best. Thanks
  9. Can People Choose the Prophet or Caliph or Successor of the prophet with Shura or Consultation, instead of authority / command by Allah? The following questions serve as a food for thought for mindful people. 1- Hz Adam as was chosen by Allah swt as caliph / successor on the earth. Did Allah swt make any consultation for his selection ? 2- Allah swt Chosen Ibrahim as as Imam / leader of the people, Did Allah swt consult any prophet or any person for his selection ? 3- Hz Adam, Nuh, Ibrahim and the progeny of Imran were chosen above the worlds. Did Allah swt make any consultation with any prophet or person for this selection? 4- The prophet Nuh and Ibrahim were sent to his nation. Did the people choose them as prophet by Shura or consultation? 5- Allah swt gave the progeny of ibrahim, the book and the wisdom. Did Allah swt make any consultation or Shura with any one for this award to his progeny? 6- Allah swt chosed Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah and Lot—each graced over all the nations. Did Allah swt make any consultation for this grace? 7-Allah swt made Isac and yaqub leaders / imams, whom Allah consulted for this selection of leaders / imams? 8- Allah swt made Dawood a caliph ie his successor as his chosen representative on the earth. Did Allah swt conduct any consultation for this selection? 9- Allah swt made Haroon as and aider and adviser of hz Musa as. Did Allah swt make any consultation with the Children of israel for such selection? Or Musa made any shura for his selection? 10- Musa asked his adviser and aider made by Allah swt ie Harun to take his place as his caliph / successor in his absence, when he left for Mountain Tur. Did he make any shura for Haroon selection? However the people themselves chose and took a calf in Musa's absence then they were condemned by Allah swt for this worst action. 11- Allah swt made 12 leaders among the children of israel. Did Allah swt make any consultation for the selection of them? 12- Allah swt chosen Talut a leader over the children of Israel because of his knowledge and physical strength. Did Allah swt make consultation for his selection? 13- Allah swt sent the prophet Muhammad saww as mercy to the mankind. Did he make any consultation for his selection? 14- Allah swt made the prophet Muhammad saww as his messenger and the last of the prophets. Did Allah make any consultation for this selection? 15- And your Lord creates and chooses whom He pleases; to choose is not theirs; glory be to Allah, and exalted be He above what they associate (with Him). 28:68. This verse in the light of above verses clearly indicates that the selection of representative (prophet / leader / imam/ successor) is the authority of Allah alone. and no one has any right for it. It does not involve any consultation for their selection. 16- The way of Allah does not change: [This is] the established way of Allah with those who passed on before; and you will not find in the way of Allah any change. (33:62) 17- The people do not have any right for selection of prophet or his representative then certainly they cannot choose any one after the prophet as his caliph ./ successor at their own (by any consultation) without permission by Allah. Thus what happened after the prophet Muhammad saww for the selection of the Calif Abubakr is considered an innovation or bidda in the religion in violation to the established principles of the quran. It's 4:163 Surah An-Nisa, Verse 163: إِنَّا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ كَمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ نُوحٍ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالْأَسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَىٰ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُونُسَ وَهَارُونَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَآتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ زَبُورًا Surely We have revealed to you as We revealed to Nuh, and the prophets after him, and We revealed to Ibrahim and Ismail and Ishaq and Yaqoub and the tribes, and Isa and Ayub and Yunus and Haroun and Sulaiman and We gave to Dawood Zabuur (English - Shakir) via iQuran --------____________======___________ Why are the Prophets in such a order in this Ayat. I mean Noah Abraham Isaac Ishmael and Jacob make sense because of the Genealogy but the rest of those Prophets in the Ayat I have no clue. Has any of you come across this Ayat and maybe asked the same Question. Why being in such a Order. And for those who will say that it isn't important etc. I will reply to say that there is always a reason why Allah reveales the Ayat in a specific way. I wanna know in shaa Allah. Cant wait for the replies!!!
  13. Sallam, Where is the divergence between in Imams and Prophets? As far as I know, Prophets and Imams share the following: -Both can perform miracles -Both recieve revelation from an angel -Both are infalliable -Both know from Allah's knowledge (ilm-ul-ghayb) -Both are hujjah -Both can narrate hadiths and decide judgement -Both are divinely chosen There may be some I've forgotten to mention, but this strikes me as same perks under different title. I'm sure this is a cliche Sunni argument, so a short answer and a list of differences is all i need. Wassallam.

  16. Salaam, While believing in religion and God necessarily entails belief in the "supernatural" and miracles, at times it can feel too much and inconsistent with the reality. While the history of our own prophet and Aimmah (peace be on them) seems rather mundane and believable, the stories of the prophets of old feel a bit different. Although many of the stories contain powerful moral lessons, we shouldn't be prone to interpret them as allegories, as we believe these prophets were real historical figures and the stories are real. I'll illustrate just a few of many examples from a great book recently published by Sheikh Rizwan Arastu "God's Emmissaries: Adam to Jesus." I will provide sources for any of these upon request. Woman during the time of Noah menstruated yearly, instead of monthly People did not grow gray hair until Abraham did Mary was miraculously transported to Karbala to give birth, while Musa was transported there to receive his prophethood. Solomon commanded an army of jinns, birds and talked to ants. The entire Nile river turned to blood, but only to the disbelievers. When the believers drank from it, it was clear water. Noah lived 2500 years and most of the other prophets of old lived at least few hundred years old (without seemingly any comments from the population). ------------------------- These are to just name a few of several stories. I have found it hard to understand many of stories in historical context and many modern historians have their own scathing criticisms of these prophets and their stories (such as Exodus, the flood etc..), albeit from a Biblical perspective. At first, I was nervous and perhaps even ashamed to make a thread like this. Most people seem to read these narratives and it has little effect on their certainty of Islam. It makes one feel their faith is deficient and by pointing out difficulties, you are insulting the religion and scripture and demeaning God's ability . However, I wish to be honest with myself that such stories do cause doubts for me and haven't sat well with me for years. If someone were to ask me to defend and make sense of many of these stories and histories, I would have a lot of trouble doing so and feel it to be unnatural. I have always craved a faith that is perfect and can have certainty without having lingering doubts and things swept under the mental rug. Although certainty none of these are core Islamic tenets, they are in our tradition and we have to deal with them. How would do you guys deal with stories like these? How do you guys deal with Islamic issues that go against what you deep down inside think is right?

The purpose of sending the prophets The Quran states two goals for the prophets' mission A: carrying out justice B: Resolve differences and call for unity and consensus 1.Certainly We sent Our apostles with manifest proofs, and We sent down with them the Book and the Balance, so that mankind may maintain justice; and We sent down iron, in which there is great might and uses for mankind, and so that Allah may know those who help Him and His apostles [with faith] in the Unseen. Indeed Allah is all-strong, all-mighty. (Al-Hadid .25) 2 Mankind were a single community; then Allah sent the prophets as bearers of good news and warners, and He sent down with them the Book with the truth, that it may judge between the people concerning that about which they differed, and none differed in it except those who had been given it, after the manifest proofs had come to them, out of envy among themselves. Then Allah guided those who had faith to the truth of what they differed in, by His will, and Allah guides whomever He wishes to a straight path. (2.213)
  18. hello. I wonder if someone knows if the Quran mention anything about Esau, older Jacob's brother? He's mentioned in the bible, but I'd like to know if there's any shia islamic version of him. In some websites is mentioned that Isa (Jesus) is Esau, I mean that Esau and Isa are almost the same name, is that true? I've also heard that irani people say that they're not arabs, are arabs direct descendants of Ismael? Does the quran say anything about it? or the arabs have another book that registered the descendents of Ismael that at some point, it end up related the arabs as sons of Ismael, as the bible does with the jews. I'd appreciate so much If someone can answer it

  21. A wahabi used this verse in the quran to prove that we will see Allah(swt). How would a shia refute this “Some faces that Day shall be Naadirah (shining and radiant). Looking at their Lord (Allaah)” [al-Qiyaamah :22-23]
  22. Imam Jafar Sadiq narrates: “We have been given the knowledge of the beginning and the end.” A person from the Imams (as) companions said: “May I be your ransom. Do you have Knowledge of the unseen (Ilm e Ghaib)?” Imam(as) replied:”Woe unto you. I know what is in the loins of men and womb of women. Woe unto you all. Open us your heart and see with your eyes and accept with your hearts. We are the proof of Allah in his creations. And none can accept this except all those believers whos hearts are as strong as the mount of Tahama and by the will of Allah.” [Source: Bihar Al Anwar Vol.26] Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Razi Al-Jaamoorani, from Ismail bin Moosa from his father, from his grandfather, from Abd Al-Samad bin Ali who said : A man came up to Ali bin Husain (as). Ali bin Husain (as) said to him, “Who are you?”. The man said, “I am an astrologer.” The Imam said, “So you are a fortune-teller.” He then looked at him and then said, “Shall I show you a man who since the time you have come to us, moved through 14 worlds, with each world being 3 times bigger than this world, without having moved from his place?” The man said, “Who is He?” The Imam said, “It is I, and if I wish, I can inform you what you ate and what you have stored in your house.” [Source: Basaair Al-Darajaat, Vol. 8, Chapter. 12, Hadees. 13] “I was in the presence of Abi Abdillah (Imam asSadiq), when a man from Yemen came up to Him. The Imam said to him, “O Yemeni brother, are there scholars among you?” He said, “Yes”. The Imam said, “What do your scholars achieve from their knowledge?” He said, “He travels in one night the travel distance of two months of the flight of the bird and the effects would remain.” Abi Abdillah said, “The scholar from Medina [referring to himself] is more knowledgeable then your scholars.” He said, “What does the scholar of Medina achieve from his knowledge?” The Imam said, ” He travels in one hour of the day, the travel distance of a year’s travel of the sun, to the extent that he cuts through twelve thousand worlds the like of this world of yours whose inhabitants are not aware that Allah created Adam (as) or Iblees”. He said, “They recognise You?” The Imam said, “Yes. There is no obligation upon them except for Our Wilayah and the keeping away from Our enemies.” [Source: Basaair Al-Darajaat, Vol. 8, Chapter. 12, Hadees. 15] -All narrators are trustworthy. Hadees is Saheeh. -There are more narrations with the same meaning, hence making the Matn “Tawattur” (frequently narrated)
  23. Are there any 12er shias who believe that the prophets are superior to the imams, if so can they please provide evidence on why they believe so ?

(bismillah) I have always been wondering, about all these hadiths that are claimed to be sahih (and non-sahih) by past scholars and such, about degrading characteristics of our prophets and imams. Things of which make them a mere "human", in the absolute lowered sense of this word. How did these hadiths come to exist? More accurately, why did the narrators narrate specifically such hadiths? Who told them to? Our Imams? The Prophet? Back then, majority of the people, had no idea of what infallible or fallible was, or such ideologies. Why would an Imam A.S tell his companions to narrate such degrading hadiths? Or more importantly why would an Imam allow the transmission of such hadiths (if he heard them)? Assuming indeed there was not an interjection of falsified hadiths during the time of our past scholars, nor for taqiyya. For example, the prophet supposedly missing prayers or something similar along the line. Would the prophet be like, "listen companions make sure to record my mistake". Such a phrase or along the lines in itself has no meaning for a prophet of God. As a present speaker has mentioned before, people argue about prophets being accused of committing grave mistakes/sins in the quran, but they themselves had no idea of what they were committing, but a mere sinful being like ourselves can tell? Not only that, but why do they need to be the ones committing mistakes or sins to prove they are "human" or to teach us? If that is the case, where is there certainty and credibility? Are they not the ones who give divine decree? What irrational. This has truly led me to stand firm on my belief that such hadiths/ideologies is indeed propaganda by the enemies of Islam, prophets, imams, and shias. I stand firm and testify, the agents of Allah were absolutely perfect and infallible. Just my thoughts.. (wasalam)
