  1. Salaam, In regards to pictures of the 12 Imams I have some questions. (An example of these types of pictures is below) 1) Is there any evidence for suggesting that these pictures are an actual representation of the Imams? 2) How did these pictures come into existence? (Meaning who made them) 3) If these pictures are not based on evidence, why do we not have historical pictures/paintings anyway? Imam Ali (A.S) was alive at around 700AD. At this time it was possible for paintings to be made. Some of the Imams were around much later than Imam Ali (A.S), when things were even more developed. Ali~J

  5. (BISMILLAH) (Salam) So, I was reading this article recently, which claimed that Ayatollah Seestani allows the depiction of the Prophet, as long as it is respectful: "By contrast the leading figure among the Shias of Iraq, Ayatollah Sistani, has said the depiction even of Muhammad is acceptable, as long as it is done with proper reverence." I wasn't aware of this before. Can anyone provide me with a source?

  7. may God destroy them! credit : http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28177841: In pictures: Isis destroys Iraq shrinesImages posted on social media appear to show the destruction of about a dozen places of worship across northern Iraq, in areas recently taken over by extremist militants. Some images showed the al-Qubba Husseiniya, a Shia shrine, being blown up in the city of Mosul. Militants used a bulldozer to destroy a shrine known as the "Girl's Tomb" in Mosul. They believe giving special veneration to graves and relics is against the teachings of Islam. Militants also destroyed the Saad bin Aqeel Husseiniya shrine in Tal Afar, approximately 50 km (35 miles) west of Mosul. The militants, believed to belong to Isis (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant), are also reported to have attacked churches in Mosul. More images showed the Ahmed al-Rifai shrine and tomb in the Mahlabiya district near Tal Afar being attacked with a bulldozer. The militants have attacked Shia and Sunni shrines alike, and have vowed to continue destroying places of worship which they do not approve of.

  10. Big baby A three-year-old toddler from China already tips the scales at 60kg (132lbs), making him five times the size of a normal child his age. When Lu Hao was born he weighed just 2.6kg (5.7 lbs.); however, from the time he was three months old he began to gain weight rapidly. "His appetite is so good that for a meal he can eat 3 big bowls of rice, even larger than I and his mother," said Hao's father Lu Yuncheng. Since Hao was one-year-old his parents have tried to keep a careful eye on his diet. However, Hao's mother Chen Yuan comments: "We have to let him be as if we don't feed him he will cry nonstop". No matter how hard the family restricts Hao's diet and pushes him to move more the toddler has still managed to put on 10kg (22 lbs) in the past year. Is it a bird? Is it a plane? - No, it's Ice the super husky A pet dog has become an internet sensation after its owner posted pictures of it online dressed as superman. The pictures of five-year-old Husky dog Ice as the caped crusader have garnered rave reviews from delighted fans. In the pictures, Ice is seen posing in her outfit as well as running through a park, her cape streaming behind her, as if she is about to take-off. After seeing the images, one internet fan said he laughed so much in seeing the pictures that he even fell out of his chair. That was close A 15-year-old teenager had to be transported 400km in an ambulance after being stabbed in the head by a sword, but survived to tell the tale. Doctors had to operate to remove the 50cm sword, which penetrated 5cm into Zhang Bin's head . The teen explained how the accident happened, commenting: "Three classmates came to visit me at home and one of them brought a sword. He stood 3-4 meters away from me. I don't know how the sword could fly to me and stab into my head. I felt sharp pains and a large amount of blood streamed down". Zhang was rushed to the local hospital but doctors felt they weren't qualified to treat him and he was sent to a larger hospital in Changsha, a four hour drive away. Doctors rushed Zhang into surgery and removed the sword during a four hour operation. The chief surgeon commented: "Luckily the knife didn't touch the arteries in the skull and key nerves, otherwise it would have been a different story". Zhang is now expected to make a full recovery. Rhino milk A dairy farm in China has an unusual cow which has three horns - two one either side of its head and one in the middle like a rhino horn. Farmer Jia Kebing, from Baoding in northern China's Hebei Province, said the two year old cow was born with a small bump on its forehead. "With time the bump grew bigger and longer and become a sharp horn," said Jia. The middle horn now measures 20cm long Jia added: "My farm has fame in this region for this cow, and people came in just paying visit to this cow." Four legs good, two legs better An amazing two-legged pig has become a local celebrity in China. The 10-month-old pig, known by villagers as "Zhu Jianqiang" (Strong-willed Pig), was born with only two front legs, which it now uses to walk on. According to owner Wang Xihai, Zhu Jianqiang was one of nine piglets born in a litter this January. He recalls: "My wife asked me to dump it but I refused as it's a life. I thought I should give it a chance to survive and unexpectedly it survived healthily." Several days after Zhu's birth Wang decided to train the two-legged piglet to walk by lifting it up by its tail. "I trained her a while each day. After 30 days she can agilely walk upside down." Wang said since the birth of the pig, which currently weighs 50kg (110lbs), his home is besieged by visitors everyday. A circus even offered a high price for the pig, but Wang refused to sell. He said "She proved to us that no matter what form life is it should continue to live on. I won't sell it no matter how much the offer is". Strong-limbed lamb A farmer was saved a two-legged lamb after being touched by its struggle to survive. Farmer Cui Jinxiu, from Laizhou in northern China's Shandong province, said the lamb was one of two born in June 2010. She comments: "The first one was a very healthy and normal one. However, the second one surprised me." "With a further look I was surprised to find that the lamb only has two legs." The family thought the lamb wouldn't survive, but it proved its strong desire to live. "I thought of dumping it after it was born but the next morning it even stood up by itself." Cui said she was touched by the strong will of the lamb and started to feed it using a baby bottle. "It is very strong willed and brave. Although only having two legs it is living normally as other lambs," said Cui. Belly gives finger a hand Doctors attached a man's finger to his stomach in the hope that he would re-grow a missing fingertip. In November 2011, 20-year-old furniture shop worker Wang Yongjun sliced the top section off his middle finger when using an electric saw. When he was admitted to hospital in northeast China's Liaoning Province doctors came up with an unusual plan to re-grow his fingertip. According to Dr Huang, when Wang came in the bone of his middle finger could be seen and muscle and skin were all gone. He said: "We had to make a quick decision as any delay may lead to finger amputation. So we decided to cultivate a new finger top in his belly". During surgery doctors cut a skin flap on Wang's stomach and wrapped this around his damaged middle finger. Id-hen-tity crisis A confused hen in China is having something of an identity crisis - apparently convinced that it is a penguin. Rather than walk like a normal chicken the peng-hen waddles completely upright with its wings tucked behind on its back. The unusual hen belongs to fisherman Liu Yong, from Jinhu in eastern China's Jiangsu province. He comments: "It walks in a weird way from its childhood, differentiating her from others." According to Liu, as the hen grows up the difference between it and its peers grows more and more pronounced as it stalks around the yard ramrod straight. Instead of scratching in the ground and roosting on a perch at night, says Liu, the hen walks around "quite arrogantly". And while the other chickens are able to fly a little the peng-hen either can't or won't. Liu adds: "Other chickens must think she is a freak as no one will get close to her. In the night all the chickens will fly up to the roof of the chicken house, leaving only her on the ground." Pricey pooch A Tibetan mastiff dog went up for sale in China priced at just over £1m in February. The dog in question appeared with others at an exhibition and trade show Shijiazhuang, capital of northern China's Hebei Province. More than 1,000 Tibetan mastiffs from across China took part in the two-day event. The average price being asked for one of the dogs was around 1 million Yuan (£1.5k). However, 'Emperor' came with a price tag of 10 million Yuan. His owner also offered him out for breeding purposes with a single mating costing half a million Yuan. The Tibetan Mastiff is an ancient breed of dog originating from the nomadic cultures of Central Asia. The breed has become a status symbol in China as they are thought to be holy animals, blessing their owners' health and security. Hunter becomes the hunted He was meant to be an easy lunch for a hungry tiger but this bull wasn't going to go down without a fight. The dramatic encounter between the two beasts took place at Yancheng Zoo in Changzhou, eastern China. The bull was let into the tiger enclosure of Tang Bai Hu, who has been bred in captivity. With live prey to stalk and bring down, keepers were hoping that the exercise would put Tang Bai Hu in touch with his wild side. However, the angry bull wasn't going to take it lying down and very firmly turned the lunch table on the white tiger. And Tang Bai Hu turned out to be something of a scaredy-cat, turning tail and fleeing when the bull turned on him. note: when i found this online, there were other pics with it, of the tiger pretty much eating the bull. Pooch looks like a lady A pet dog in China prefers to walk upright like a human being and has won the hearts of locals in its neighbourhood in Zhumadian, central China’s Henan Province. One-year-old miniature pinscher Lu Lu is owned by retired teacher Zhou Guanshun, who got Lu Lu as a puppy. After he got Lu Lu Zhou began to teach her to stand upright and walk by holding her front legs. He says: "She learnt to walk upright when she was a four-month-old and hasn't stopped ever since then". For most of the time during the day Lu Lu prefers to be in an upright position; even when she is resting she chooses to squat down on her hind legs. Besides walking upright, Lu Lu can also jump through hoops and do other acts. Each morning Zhou takes Lu Lu to the nearby public square to have a walk, where she proves to be a huge hit with passers-by. Long lengths to cool down A three-year-old toddler has had a lucky escape after plunging from the window of an 8th floor apartment in Beijing. The toddler fell from the window while he was home alone, but had his fall broken by an air conditioner protruding from a window on the floor below. He then became wedged between the air conditioner and the wall, which stopped him from falling further. A passing witness, a Mr Miao, said he suddenly heard screaming and when he looked up he saw "a kid was stuck behind an air conditioner while his legs were dangling in the air". Neighbours called for police but then realised that the boy was starting to slip. Miao commented: "Then several men appeared at the balcony on the 7th floor. One of them climbed over and caught the boy's wrist". The two men who rescued the boy were grocery shop workers Wang and Zhou. Zhou said he tried several times to grab the boy before climbing out of the window and grabbing him by the arm. http://www.independe...?action=gallery ---------------------------------------- Interesting place
