Recently I stumbled upon the story of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker famous for his anti-Islamic film called 'Submission' which portrayed the religion in bad light and showed how Islam allows for women abuse and domestic violence. He was assassinated by Dutch-Moroccan Muslim Mohammed Bouyeri, for which he is serving life imprisonment in Netherlands. For more information on them : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_van_Gogh_(film_director) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohammed_Bouyeri http://www.sociosite.org/jihad_nl_en.php A Somalian born woman named Ayaan Hirsi Ali also helped in the film's making was threatened as well in a note pinned to Van Gogh's dead body. This is what she has to say about Islam: "Just like Nazism started with Hitler's vision, the Islamic vision is a caliphate — a society ruled by Sharia law – in which women who have sex before marriage are stoned to death, homosexuals are beaten, and apostates like me are killed. Sharia law is as inimical to liberal democracy as Nazism." In this interview, she said, "Violence is inherent in Islam – it's a destructive, nihilistic cult of death. It legitimates murder." She even went on to say in a magazine statement: " Hirsi Ali said that Islam must be defeated and that "we are at war with Islam." She said, "Islam, period. Once it’s defeated, it can mutate into something peaceful. It’s very difficult to even talk about peace now. They’re not interested in peace."" Ever since reading all this, I've been wondering if killing Van Gogh was justified. Jihad is a pillar of Islam and fighting for the cause of Allah against the disbelievers has been going on since the times of our prophets. However such actions does make Islam look more like a terrorist movement than a religion of peace, and causes people like these to talk rubbish about Allah's words. What are your thoughts/opinions? Please let me know in the comments below. P.S. The reason I came upon this article is because I was researching a Quranic aya'h in which Prophet Ayyub is commanded to 'strike/beat' his wife with grass blades.
