  1. Salam, I was wondering if anyone had contact information (email or phone number) for English-speaking maulanas (like Syed Asad Jafri, etc), or anyone educated (student or teacher as long as they have knowledge, also sisters or brothers) who is open to answering questions. If you think it is better to privately message me the contact information rather than post it on a public forum, please do so; my inbox is open inshallah. Duas.
  2. Religion defines “science,” knowledge, differently from secularism. A religious concept of knowledge does not regard empiricism as primary, or central to faith. The senses’ observation(s) is at best an aid to faith, not the basis thereof. Nor is natural law or common sense, both of which are derived from the senses, the foundation of faith. Faith in tradition, on the other hand, is central to the acceptance of creeds, dogmas, and rituals. Whether or not these contradict human experience is immaterial to one’s faith in them: for religion is based on that which is largely imperceptible to mere created beings—the spiritual realm. To illustrate: even if, say, homosexuality were to produce absolutely no measurable, demonstrable, visible harm(s) in this world, a religious believer would still pronounce anathema on its being practiced, solely on the basis of received tradition that regards sodomy as a grave spiritual sin. In Islam the heart, not the mind, is the pivot of faith. The heart is regarded as primary: if the heart is sealed, nothing changes/happens; all else is futile. The Qur’ān does stress reflection, of course, but a reflection that takes place in the heart, from which all else flows. All else is secondary. In other words, one “knows” the Truth through the heart, not the mind, and therefore one needs no evidence. That is why the Qur’ān chides people who base their faith on miracles or signs; many of those who saw the Prophet’s miracle(s) and sign(s) did not believe in their hearts. If this is the case, then how can Islam be proven to be truer than another faith? How does one prove that a certain Islamic practice is truer than, say, a Christian or Hindu one? How can one prove that an Islamic belief is truer than a Jewish or Buddhist one?

  4. Assalamualaikum, For my own knowledge, I am researching on the "House of Knowledge" established during the time of 6th Imam Jafar al Sadiq ((عليه السلام)) in the ancient round city of Baghdad (approx. 800 AD). Overview: The Abbasids were staunch enemies of the holy ahlulbait, but the accursed evil Abbassid Caliph Haroon Rashid wanted to establish his authority over muslims by embracing Imam Jafar Sadiq in his arms ( a fake show of public, stating that Haroon loves the ahlulbait and is acting as the caliph just to safeguard religion and assigned the imam as his rightful successor). Haroon did not imprison the imam to avoid public outrage but never wanted to leave the imam out of sight for fear of losing his caliphate, thus the evil caliph had an ingenious idea to appoint important royal responsibilities to the imam and hold him in the palace boundaries with less public interaction so as to hide the true (shia) islam and thus he made the imam the head of many institutions, including the renowed "House of Knowledge" It was in this house of knowledge where biology, chemistry, philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, religion and numerous sciences were being taught freely for the first time leading to the Islamic Golden Age, imam had more than 6000 students from all over the world during his era, that is the reason Shias are also famously referred to as "Jafaris", as it was never before and never after the 6th imam when religious and scientific propagation was at this epic level. Now, when I researched more on the internet, many sites listed a few students of Imam Jafar, like Jabir ibn Hayyan (known in the West as Geber), Khwazrimi (father of Algebra, imagine the level of knowledge of imam Jafar Sadiq, when even his student is the father of a science) stating that their master was imam Jafar Sadiq, who had the knowledge of unlimited sciences, it is mind boggling.. Unfortunately, the Wikipedia page for "House of Wisdom" has absolutely no mention of our 6th Imam Jafar Sadiq (عليه السلام)., I'll appreciate if anyone can point me to any sources (reliabile blogs, sites, pdf, ebooks, or book purchase links) related to this topic. Thank you.

  6. Salam, I am wondering, does anyone know any shia books that have a focus on perfecting character? Thank you in advance.
  7. Humanity vs inhumanity - Karbala Message War between humanity and inhumanity has been going on since the beginning of time Physical wars- you conquer and subjugate other human ( Physically) or you keep them in open air prisons or you violate the sovereign state’s sovereignty at will. This requires physical weapons and whoever has the upper hand in physical weapons and has the economic muscle will control, subjugate, coerce others to form a coalition to achieve the goal of Physical colonization. through physical wars, proxy wars, economic wars, currency wars, spearheading/supporting a manufactured crisis within the target state, either alone or with a willing coalition. This playing field is not an even playing field. Spiritual/Intellectual wars- the scope of this war is larger and this virus has long generational life and can degenerate into drug resistant state and could pass down the mutant spiritual DNA to the next generations. Highly infectious and can take a form of a global epidemic. Here the playing field is even. The weapons here is intellect, knowledge. But we have not paid attention to it, no glory, no instant victory parade etc...Humans usually look for glory and fame and bragging rights and want to be acknowledged and sometimes glorified for their physical accomplishments. Religion can not be imposed on anyone through Physical threat. You can only subjugate human body and have him/her do your will. But you do not control his/her heart and mind. Liberation of Human heart and mind is a priority vs freeing them from physical bondage, in a world with uneven playing field. Only way you can change this state (Physical bondage) and bring about its decline, is by bringing about freedom of hearts and minds. Which will in turn remove the will to subjugate others and justice will prevail. So, focus on godless ideologies is vital. Urgent Vaccination is needed . Weapon is available to all, no shortage of manpower (soldiers). We have the tools (Intellect), Karbala. In order to change the status quo. Your thoughts?

  9. Respected brothers and sisters if you had the opportunity to ask Imam Ali ((عليه السلام)) any question whatsoever possessing any scientific, jurisprudential, ethical, moral significance what would you ask. it can be as many questions as you want and mainly those ones you truly wish to be answered, and no matter the caliber of the question the commander of the faithful will indeed have an answer. perhaps some of the brothers or sisters could also aid in answering any of those questions which you pose and if not those questions can allow us to furthermore ponder and postulate over their significance.
  10. Hi gays, I want to know about the following statements/pharases which one is correct to you and why Wonder is the beginning of knowledge. Skepticism is the beginning of knowledge. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. is there any interactions between them or it is your personnel experience three or correct.
  11. Salam alaykum sisters and brothers and Ramadan Kareem! Yesterday I found out methods of Istikhara and how to perform it by doing tasbeeh (counting beads with a rosary). I performed the same night the same method given out by imam Al Mahdi (A.S) and the first time I got an answer telling me to do it (what is on my mind). I performed again (the same method) after and it instead said to not do it. I then a few minutes after performed another method given out by another imam (A.S) which I forgot whom it was and my answer came out to be to do it. And now a day later i performed istikhara a few times with the different methods by different imams and some of the answers were to not do it while others were to do it. I then performed the istikhara given out by prophet Muhammad (A.S) which you get an answer from by opening the Quran after following some other steps and then seeing which sentence you get. I don’t remember which sentence/verse I got but if I would translate it to an answer I would say the answer were to not do it or like to not do something without Allah allowing it. I’m now very confused, shall I do the thing in my mind or not. I don’t remember if I got “do it” most or “do not do it” most. But I think I got “do it” maybe one or two times more than to not do it. Please if anyone knows what you shall do (based on knowledges) can you please advise me? And please brothers and sisters avoiding telling me to not do it only to be on the safe zone because I really want to make my decision but of course seek Allah the almighty’s knowledge and permission first. Jazakhum Allah Khayr o3alaykum alsalam o rahmat Allah o barakato! Here is the link to where all the methods that I performed are: http://www.duas.org/istikhara.htm
  12. As salamu aleikoum, As a law student, I would like to know if there is any hadith (shia if possible) about acquiring secular knowledge. I know there are a lot of hadiths about acquiring knowledge but I wonder if these hadiths only speak about religious knowledge. I recall a mollah talking about one of our Imams (as) giving a long chemistry lesson to someone though. Also, I heard that one is not considered a true shia if there is anyone better/more successful in their village. Again, I don't know what exactly this hadith means. The mollah stressed that as a muslim/shia you should be the best at everything you do, although he didn't mention any narration about that (starting from 7:30).
  13. 1. The knowledge that has been sent to the previous nations: 002:120 Never will the Jews be pleased with you, nor the Christians, unless you followed their creed. Say, ‘Indeed it is the guidance of Allah which is [true] guidance.’ And should you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you will not have against Allah any guardian or helper. 002:145 Even if you bring those who were given the Book every [kind of] sign, they will not follow your qiblah. Nor shall you follow their qiblah, nor will any of them follow the qiblah of the other. And if you follow their desires, after the knowledge that has come to you, you will be one of the wrongdoers. 003:019 Indeed, with Allah religion is Islam, and those who were given the Book did not differ except after knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves. And whoever denies Allah’s signs [should know that] Allah is swift at reckoning. 010:093 Certainly We settled the Children of Israel in a worthy settlement and We provided them with all the good things, and they did not differ until [after] the knowledge had come to them. Your Lord will indeed judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that about which they used to differ. 042:014 They did not divide [into sects] except after the knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves; and were it not for a prior decree of your Lord [granting them reprieve] until a specified time, decision would have been made between them. Indeed those who were made heirs to the Book after them are in grave doubt concerning it. 045:017 and We gave them manifest precepts. But they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them, out of envy among themselves. Indeed your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that about which they used to differ. 019:043 Father! Indeed a knowledge has already come to me, which has not come to you. So follow me that I may guide you to a right path. (This verse refers to the prophet Ibrahim AS who was chosen as Imam / leader of mankind by Allah swt) 2. The knowledge that has been sent to our nation: The Quran mentions the knowledge that has been sent to us in following verses: ٱلْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكَ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْمُمْتَرِينَ {٦٠} 003:060 This is the truth from your Lord, so do not be among the skeptics. 003:061 Should anyone argue with you concerning him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say, ‘Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, our souls and your souls, then let us pray earnestly, and call down Allah’s curse upon the liars.’ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ ٱلْقَصَصُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۚ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ {٦٢} 003:062 This is indeed the true account, for sure. There is no god but Allah, and indeed Allah is the All-mighty, the All-wise. فَإِن تَوَلَّوْا۟ فَإِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلِيمٌۢ بِٱلْمُفْسِدِينَ {٦٣} 003:063 But if they turn away, indeed Allah knows best the agents of corruption. The above verses refer to the event of Mubahila that provided the evidence of glory of Islam against the Christians. This also provides the truthfulness of the prophet saaw and his purified Ahl Albayt AS. This knowledge has been sent to us and kept in the Quran for believers and Allah swt sends Lan’a upon the liars who reject faith in Ahl Albayt AS. . 022:054 [And also for the reason] that those who have been given knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord, and so they may have faith in it, and their hearts may be humbled before Him. Indeed Allah guides those who have faith to a straight path. 034:006 Those who have been given knowledge see that what has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth and [that] it guides to the path of the All-mighty, the All-laudable. 003:007 It is He who has sent down to you the Book. Parts of it are definitive verses, which are the mother of the Book, while others are metaphorical. As for those in whose hearts is deviance, they pursue what is metaphorical in it, courting temptation, and seeking its interpretation. But no one knows its interpretation except Allah and those firmly grounded in knowledge; they say, ‘We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord.’ And none takes admonition except those who possess intellect. 004:162 But as for those who are firmly grounded in knowledge from among them, and the faithful, they believe in what has been sent down to you, and what was sent down before you—those who maintain the prayer, give the zakat, and believe in Allah and the Last Day—them We shall give a great reward. 3. Conclusion: a. For our nation, the Quran mentions the knowledge that has sent to us in following: 003:061 Should anyone argue with you concerning him, after the knowledge that has come to you, say, ‘Come! Let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, our souls and your souls, then let us pray earnestly, and call down Allah’s curse upon the liars.’ b. The Quran provides the verses for knowledge that has come to us: 013:037 Thus We have sent it down as a dispensation in Arabic; and should you follow their desires after the knowledge that has come to you, you shall have against Allah neither any guardian nor defender The people have been warned for not following their own desires by the above two verses. This is a crystal and solid proof of the truth of the prophet saw saying to follow the Quran and Ahl albaayt AS, thus proving the HADITH THAQLYN. @Salsabeel
  14. There is a popular saying: "Knowledge without deed is nothing". This saying applies to some of the things but according to my speculation doesn't work for everything. For example, if ilm is: "Allah is 1" and the practical deed one might say is to "avoid shirk". Now, I truly believe and I gain knowledge. How about proton, neutron and electron revolve around nucleus? And proton has other particles in it etc. What could be the deed of this knowledge? Is it just information, then schools and university are mostly focusing on learning information rather than the true knowledge?
  15. (Bismillah) Salam Alaikom, The Islamic Institute of America has started a hawza program in the English language. I’ve started attending it and wish I had this opportunity earlier!! It is absolutely amazing! The insight and deeper understanding of Islam makes one enjoy this existence in ways that are indescribable! The subjects currently being taught are Usul ul fiqh, ilmul hadith, Arabic grammar, public speaking, Quranic sciences, usul al-kaafi ,biography of Prophet (sawaws) and Islamic laws. The main teacher is sayed Mohammad Baqir al Qazwini, may Allah reward him immensely for his efforts! Allahumma salle ala Muhammad wa Aal e Muhammad wa ajjil farajahum
  16. Salam all, I have been reading a lot of posts here and have noticed that people, and not just here, make a lot of assumptions, generalizations and make claims without backing them up with references or evidences, especially in the sunni/shia forum, and hence end up with a lot of baseless beliefs. i think we would all agree that a historical narration, as opposed to a hadith, is not a source of religion, or is not hujjah, unless it has an authentic chain. the reason for that is that if the shi'a bring 10 historical accounts of the evils of "sahaba" or supporting any of their views, the sunnis can bring 100 historical accounts to back their view of islam. and hence i believe making claims or forming beliefs based on historical accounts with no sanad/chain, is not only incorrect, but would lead to useless arguments. if you disagree, then you disagree with the whole science of hadith, as we simply do not take a saying of the prophet pbuh without a chain or without authenticating the chain. some people say, well there MUST be a reason the accounts are there in history, like, there HAS to be SOME truth to them. to those people, i say: the same can be said about sunni historical accounts. there MUST be SOME truth to their accounts as well. but at the end of the day, both of us will be doing nothing more than assuming and wishful thinking. So, to summarize, if you are saying something about your religion, make sure that you would be willing to risk your akhirah for it and can back it up with evidence/reference, cause you never know what you might be held accountable for. and let this be a sort of notice for any of my future posts as well, that i will neither entertain nor respond to any claims/responses based on assumption/prejudice/emotion. someone wise once said, there is no place for emotions in the field of knowledge. salam.
  17. i have a few questions and hope some knowledgeable brother can answer these. 1. can you explain the shia usul e hadith? in brief for now. especially how you guys check the sanad and matn and reject whatever goes against the quran. 2. how do you know the quran that we have today is the same quran that was revealed to the prophet pbuh? is it just a belief, like christians believe the bible is the true word of god that jesus preached or whatever. or do you have proof that the quran today is the same quran 1438 years ago. and jbtw, this has nothing to do with tahreef, in case anyone goes there. i am coming from a different point of view. just these two for now. a lot more to follow inshaAllah.
  18. Can anyone here give me some channels/sites where I can learn more about the beliefs of Shia, Sunni, Salafi, science etc. Because Ramadan is about learning too! Now I am a Shia, and I have the proof for the Shia are right, but I want to know what my brothers believe in (But I do not think Salafi see me as a brother...)
  19. Is this intentional injustice or human lack of progress in knowledge/science ? Experience and observing of my life : 1. I see human want to live comfortably without the mosquito problem and without disease it caused (malaria, Deunge etc), then they built factory to produce insecticide to kill (extermination) of mosquito. (I have book that says Muslim Masjid is called MOSQUE by the west because the masjid is full of mosquito). Why we, human, kill other living things ? Are mosquito created to be hunted and killed by human ? 2. I see human want to cure from cancer. The doctor give an option to have Chemotherapy, which introduce isotope with radiation power of certain metal chemistry to cure the cancer by filling it into the body and mostly cause side effect such as changing in color of skin, hair loss. Anyway, my view it has potential to change human cells by introducing high power energy isotope into the whole body. What is wrong with other healthy tissue/cells to get exposed to isotope in chemotherapy ? 3. I see human want to cure from toothache, which is the rotten of root of teeth because of hole in the teeth. Human go to dentist and dentist drill bigger hole in his/her tooth then put a filling which most of the time not lasted for his entire life. What is wrong with the bone of teeth so that it is drilled to make bigger hole ? 4. ...
  20. The man of knowledge is the one who recognizes that what is known is very little compared to what is not known, and as a result he considers himself ignorant, and accordingly he increases his efforts to know more by going out in search of knowledge.

  22. Salaam. I want to know each and every thing about exorcism in islam. Is there a book? And ways to prevent it. Please help.
  23. Salam. Can anyone please give me the link of the following books: 1. Mulakat e Imam e Zamana (a.s.) 2. Mukhtar Nameh
  24. Salaam. To give some background, I have been brought up with Shia beliefs but recently, an encounter with another individual has led me to revisit these beliefs and its has made me realise, I actually don't know an awful lot about my own beliefs let alone the beliefs of others. I promised myself that I will look, discuss and seek to find that closest to the truth and to spot the discrepancies. I want to feel the peace that many believers do because they've found their path. But with little Muslim friends I have, my primary companion is the Internet. Since I've started researching into Shia'ism and Sunni'ism more, I feel I've become less practicing because I don't know what is right and wrong and this just pretty much had left me irritated with everything. Has anyone else felt or encountered a scenario like this and how do you deal with it? And please, no mean comments.
  25. Salam Alaikom. What is Religion? We must know about religion, what it is, to develop to know our position to it. How can we practice Islam that is a religion-not any religion but religion to the whole creation beyond derby -, without knowing about what religion is. Sure all are good and excellent followers of Islam, but Islam is a religion so what is religion again! What specific thoughts occur in you, please let us know. If it is not cool to mention I, AGAIN I AM, than maybe we should use 'you'- hmm how logical is this sentence -. Our scholars say religion has three parts-or 3 whatever - that is: Ahklaq, Aqaed and fiqh- respectively Ethic-ethical morality, belief and jurisprudence-Islamic law -. If any religion misses one of these parts, that religion is defected, handicap,or either sick but can we say it is no religion! Why Islam is the last holy religion to humanity? You have probably confronted the above question in your life! In this topic following questions should be dealt with: What is religion? What is a defected religion? If we accept the concept of religion, than why should we accept Islamic religion and not any other Ibrahimic religion; what answer is needed here? Why Islam the final stage, what can we say about the development of religion because we read in the holy Quran, some Prophets Peace upon Them said that we are muslim! Hope this topic is successful Allah will, and this 'riter a excellent host to guests participating in this topic. Please leave your view and thoughts, this servant will be frugal in using posts to develop text in this regard.
