  1. Asalamu Alaikum brothers and sisters,, i am writing this topic on behalf of a friend who doesnt have ShiaChat,, anyway is there any Authentic Hadiths about the man helping out around the house,, or helping with the children,, does anyone have any references as well,, iv heard some Hadiths about Imam Ali AS helping Bibi Fatima Al Zahra AS JazakAllah Kheir :))
  2. I hope the person reading this is well, Insha'Allah. After getting into bad company and facing subsequent losses, I thought about one thing. Many people often quote the Hadith where the Mercy for All Worlds (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) says that Heaven is at the feet of mothers. Surely, this also means that if person A harms person B, such that person B's mother is hurt, even so far that person B's mother cries, especially if Person B is a victim of your Zulm, then despite Person A being good with their mother, Person A has done Zulm on Person B's mother. Due to obvious motherly love, Person B's mother will complain to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) about Person A's actions. As such, is it logical to think that Person A is set for an appropriate retribution through the 'Adalat of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى)? The Hadith seems to imply that treatment to one's mother is a big determinant towards one's position in the Hereafter, and judging by thge wording, I find that it not only talks about one's own mother, but other mothers as well. Surely, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) delivers 'Adl for the Mazloom, so with this logic, is it justified to think that Person A's Hereafter is not a Heavenly one? I found this to be an interesting topic, but since I am so unlearned, I thought I would ask the much more learned people at ShiaChat. JazakAllah
  3. Hello, I am putting my notes together, and - I cannot find Hadith al-Thaqalayn (on two valuables) - the Musnad Ahmad version of it.... I have several sources/ books referencing that there is a Musnad Ahmad version too, like: Imam Ahmad Al-Musnad part 5 p. 181 - But I don't know - may be that is some Book edition or something - I woud like to find it in Sunnah.com - as the most known internet Hadith collection - but no success so far.... looking for suggestions... I know there are also Tirmidhi & Sahih Muslīm versions, those I find...... But were is Musnad Ahmad version?!
  4. There has not appeared via authentic isnads, hadiths testifying to the virtues of any Companion like what has appeared testifying to the virtues of Ali b. Abi Talib. ~ Ahmad ibn Hanbal Sunni source; Ibn Abi Ya’la, Tabaqat al-hanabila, vol. 2, page 156. As narrated to us by Jabir ibn Abdullah, the Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) said; Ali b. Abi Talib is the earliest to embrace Islam in my community, the most knowledgeable of them, the most correct in his religion, the most virtuous in his certainty, the most prudent, generous and brave of heart, and he is the imam and caliph after me. Shia source; Shaykh al-Saduq, Amali al-saduq, p. 7. The same hadith can be found in many Sunni collections, even early ones such as the Musannaf of al-Sanani and the Musnad of ibn-Hanbal. However, with absence of the last section referring to Imam Ali (عليه السلام) as a Caliph and Imam. Other hadiths such as Ghadir Khumm, ruled by al-Tirmidhi and al-Hakim al-Naysaburi to be sahih (authentic), and the hadith of two weighty things (Quran and Ahlul Bayt) ruled by al-Hakim, Ibn Khuzayma, Muslim b. al-Hajjaj to be sahih (authentic). Among some, al-Naysaburi declared the hadith narrated from the Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) “O Fatima, Allah is angered when you are angered, Allah is pleased when you are pleased”, to be sahih (authentic). Many times Shia narrations were openly stolen and incorporated into the Sunni books by giving them different authorship. For example, Shaykh al-Saduq quoted (Amali, p. 6) Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (عليه السلام) that the Prophet ((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) had said that the best of Allah’s (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) slaves are those “Who, when they seek perfection in their acts, hope for good tidings, seek forgiven when they do wrong, are thankful to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) when they give, persevere when they are tired, and forgive when they are angered.” The same hadith can be found in Hilyat al-awliya (volume 6, page 120) by Abu Nuy’am but through a very Sunni isnad. Shaykh al-Saduq died before Abu Nuy’am. Overall, at least 100 Shia narrators found themselves in the major Sunni “authentic” books. In rijal alshi'ah fii asaneed alsunnah we can find the names of 140 of them. al-Muraja’at lists 100 of them. For example, narrations from Adi ibn Thabit al-Kufi can be found in Sunan ibn Majah and other books. Ibn Ma`in has described him as a "Shi`a extremist," while Dar Qutni calls him "Rafidi, extremist, but also reliable." Al-Mas`udi says, "We have never seen anyone who is so outspoken in preaching his Shi`a views like `Adi ibn Thabit."
  5. I am new to shiachat and wanted to start this topic. Unfortunately, the rijal books we have are not in english and many of us do cannot access to valuable information about rijal. The aim of this topic is to provide brothers/sisters with a place where if we have doubt about a hadith or a narrator, we can bring the chain and knowledgeable brother of sisters can inform us of the authenticity of the narration or narrator. It would be better if brothers or sisters would also provide the sources in which they got the information. this site has many narrators and their authenticity - http://corpus.purifiedhousehold.com/muʿjam-al-aḥadith-al-muʿtabara/ ok here is my first chains. Ali ibn Muhammad and others have narrated from Sahl ibn Ziyad from Ayyub ibn Nuh from Safwan ibn Yahya from ibn Muskan from Badr ibn al-Walid from abu al-Rabi‘ al-Shami from abu ‘Abdallah Abu Ali al-Ash‘ari has narrated from Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Jabbar from Safwan from ibn Muskan from Badr ibn al-Walid from Abu al-Rabi‘ from abu ‘Abdallah Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from ‘Umrah ibn Musa from Musa ibn Ja‘far from ‘Amr ibn Sa‘id al-Mada’ini from abu ‘Ubayda al-Mada’ini from abu ‘Abdallah
  6. I always see quotations from Imams cited as "Hadiths". Aren't Hadith only from the Prophet PBUH?
  7. Salam, Here's a question: Are statements by our Imams and prophet meant to be understood contextually or eternally? If we have to examine each statement, case-by-case, what criteria should we use to determine which statements are meant to be understood contextually and which ones atemporally?
  8. This is in reference to the question that: Where did the twelve Imams (as) come from and why should the number of Imams be twelve and twelve only? 1- As a matter of fact, the answer is right inside the Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim. There are numerous Sunni collections of traditions which all recorded the following authentic tradition from the Prophet (PBUH&HF). Here, for the sake of brevity, I only quote from Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal. (i)- In Sahih al-Bukhari (Arabic-English version), the tradition is as follows: Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 9.329 Narrated Jabir Ibn Samura: I heard the Prophet saying, "There will be twelve commanders (Amir)." He then said a sentence which I did not hear. My father said, the Prophet added, "All of them will be from Quraish." (ii) In Musnad Ahmad, the tradition is as follows: The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "There shall be twelve Caliphs for this community, all of them from Quraish." Reference: Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, v5, p106 (iii) In Sahih Muslim, the traditions are as follows: Narrated Jabir Ibn Samura: The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "The matter (life) will not end, until it is passed by twelve Caliphs." He then whispered a sentence. I asked my father what the Prophet said. He said, the Prophet added: "All of them will be from Quraish." Sunni references: - Sahih Muslim, Arabic version, Kitab al-Imaara, 1980 Edition Pub. in Saudi Arabia, v3, p1452, Tradition #5 - Sahih Muslim, English version, Chapter DCCLIV (titled: The People are subservient to the Quraish and the Caliphate is the Right of the Quraish), v3, p1009, Tradition #4477 (iv) Again from Sahih Muslim: The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "The affairs of people will continue to be conducted (well) as long as they are governed by the twelve men." Sunni references: - Sahih Muslim, Arabic version, Kitab al-Imaara, 1980 Edition Pub. in Saudi Arabia, v3, p1453, Tradition #6 - Sahih Muslim, English version, Chapter DCCLIV (titled: The People are subservient to the Quraish and the Caliphate is the Right of the Quraish), v3, p1010, Tradition #4478 (v) Also: The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "Islam will continue to be triumphant until there have been twelve Caliphs." Sunni references: - Sahih Muslim, Arabic version, Kitab al-Imaara, 1980 Edition Pub. in Saudi Arabia, v3, p1453, Tradition #7 - Sahih Muslim, English version, Chapter DCCLIV (titled: The People are subservient to the Quraish and the Caliphate is the Right of the Quraish), v3, p1010, Tradition #4480 (vi) Again: The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "The Islamic religion will continue until the Hour (day of resurrection), having twelve Caliphs for you, all of them will be from Quraish." Sunni references: - Sahih Muslim, Arabic version, Kitab al-Imaara, 1980 Edition Pub. in Saudi Arabia, v3, p1453, Tradition #10 - Sahih Muslim, English version, Chapter DCCLIV (titled: The People are subservient to the Quraish and the Caliphate is the Right of the Quraish), v3, p1010, Tradition #4483 (vii) More Sunni references of similar traditions: - Sahih al-Tirmidhi, v4, p501 - Sunan Abu Dawud, v2, p421 (three traditions). - Others such as al-Tiyalasi, Ibn al-Athir, etc. (viii) Also in another wording, the Messenger of Allah uses the word "Imam" instead of "Caliph". It is widely narrated that: The Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "The Imams are from Quraish" Sunni references: - al-Mustadrak, by al-Hakim, v3, p149 - Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal - Sahih al-Nisa'i, from Anas Ibn Malik - Sunan, by al-Baihaqi - al-Sawa'iq al-Muhriqa, by Ibn Hajar al-Haithami, Ch. 11, section 2, p287 2- As you may know, the Followers of the Members of the House of the Prophet (PBUH&HF) refer to these 12 Caliphs as of their 12 Imams starting with Imam Ali (as) and ending with Imam Mahdi (as) the leader of our time. There are Caliphs because Allah made them Caliphs (They are vice-regents of Allah on the earth). With the passage of time and through historical events, we know that by the above traditions the Holy Prophet (PBUH&HF) meant the twelve Imams from his Ahlul-Bait who are the descendants of the Prophet since we have no other 12 pure candidates in the history of Islam upon whose righteousness all Muslims agree. It is interesting to know that even the enemies of Shi'a have NOT been able to find any fault in the virtues of the twelve Imams of Shi'a. Moreover these twelve Imams came one after another without any gap. 3- It is now clear that the only way to interpret the previously mentioned traditions which are narrated by al-Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, al-Hakim, and Ahmad Ibn Hanbal is to accept that it refers to the Twelve Imams from the Prophet's Ahlul-Bait, because they were, in their times, the most knowledgeable, the most illustrious, the most god-fearing, the most pious, the best in personal virtues, and the most honored before Allah; and their knowledge was derived from their ancestor (the Prophet) through their fathers. These are the Ahlul-Bait whose sinlessness, flawlessness, and purity is confirmed by the holy Quran (the last sentence of verse 33:33). 4- Also the above mentioned traditions of the Prophet which are considered to be authentic by the Sunnis, proves beyond doubt that the concept of "Twelve Imams" can NOT be a Twelver Shi'ites concoction! It is amazing that despite the acknowledgment of al-Bukhari and Muslim and other prominent Sunni scholars about the twelve Imams, the Sunnis always stop at the four Caliphs! More interestingly, there are Sunni reports in which the Messenger of Allah named these twelve members of his Ahlul-Bait one by one starting with Imam Ali (as) and ending with Imam al-Mahdi (as). (see Yanabi' al-Mawadda, by al-Qunduzi al-Hanafi). 5- There is an interesting tradition in Sahih al-Bukhari as well as Sahih Muslim, in which the Prophet (PBUH&HF) said the following: Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 9.422 Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: The Prophet said, "You will follow the ways of those nations who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch) so much so that even if they entered a hole of a mastigure (lizard), you would follow them." We said, "O Allah's Apostle! (Do you mean) the Jews and the Christians?" He said, "Whom else?" As the above tradition in Sahih al-Bukhari confirms, the Prophet stated that the history of the Children of Israel will be repeated for Muslims. In fact, Quran has mentioned the stories of the Children of Israel to give us a way to understand the true history of Islam itself. 6-There are many striking similarities in this regard written in Quran including the similarities of the leaders and the similarities of the people. Few of them are given here. Allah, to whom belong Might and Majesty, said: "Surely Allah aforetime took a covenant from the Children of Israel and We appointed twelve leaders among them" (Quran 5:12) - Who are those twelve leaders among the Children of Muhammad (PBUH&HF)? 7- Allah, Exalted, also said: "And when Moses prayed for water for his (thirsty) people; We said: 'Strike the rock with your staff.' Then from there surged forth twelve springs so that each group knew its own place to drink." (Quran 2:60). - Who are those twelve springs (streams) of knowledge who quench the thirst of Muslims to the end of the world so that each generation is utilized with one of them? He, Exalted He is, also said: 8- "We divided them into twelve nations. We directed Moses by revelation when his (thirsty) people asked him for water: 'Strike the rock with your staff;' out of it there gushed forth twelve springs so that each group knew its own place for water. We gave them the shade of clouds and sent down to them manna and quails (saying): 'Eat of the good things We have provided for you,' (but they rebelled.) To Us they did no harm but they harmed their own souls." (Quran 7:160). Verily those who did not follow those twelve leaders, harmed non but themselves. The above verse suggests that the nation of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF) in the span of history (after his demise till the day of judgment) are divided into 12 intervals of time which coincides with one Imam who is assigned as leader for them. 9- In the next verse Allah said: "And when it was said unto them: 'Dwell in this Town and eat therein as you wish, and say Repentance, and enter the Gate (of the city) in a posture of humility, in order that We forgive you your sins and increase (the portion of) those who do good.'" (Quran 7:161) or: "And when We said: 'Enter this Town and eat of the plenty therein as you wish; but enter the Gate (of the City) with humility in posture and in words so that We forgive you your sins and increase (the portion of) those who do good.'" (Quran 2:58). The Gate in the above verses has a striking similarity with one of the attributes of Imam Ali (as) mentioned by our Prophet (PBUH&HF) that is: "The Gate of the City of Knowledge." The Messenger of Allah said: "I am the City of Knowledge, and Ali is its Gate. So whoever intends to enter the City and the Wisdom, he should enter from its Gate." Sunni references: - Sahih al-Tirmidhi, v5, pp 201,637 - al-Mustadrak, by al-Hakim, v3, pp 126-127,226 - Fadha'il al-Sahaba, by Ahmad Ibn Hanbal, v2, p635, Tradition #1081 and many more... 10- Furthermore the following Prophetic tradition gives the utmost similarity with the above two verses: The Messenger of Allah said: "My Ahlul-Bait are like the Gate of Repentance of the Children of Israel; whoever entered therein was forgiven." Sunni References: - Majma' al-Zawa'id, by al-Haithami, v9, p168. - al-Awsat, by al-Tabarani, Tradition #18 - Arba'in, by al-Nabahani, p216 - A fairly similar tradition reported by al-Darqunti and by Ibn Hajar al-Haithami in al-Sawa'iq al-Muhriqa, Ch. 9, section 2, p193, in which the Prophet (PBUH&HF) said: "Ali is the Gate of Repentance, whoever entered therein was a believer and whoever went out was an unbeliever." 11- Also Allah (SWT) stated in Quran: Lo! The number of the months with Allah is TWELVE which is Allah's ordinance when He created the heavens and the earth. Four of them are sacred. That is the firm religion. So wrong not your souls in them. (Quran9:36) In the Sira of Ibn Hisham, there is an extra sentence of the Messenger of Allah which is, in fact, the verse of Quran. The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) said: "'Postponement of a sacred month is only an excess of disbelief whereby those who disbelieve are misled; they allow it one year and forbid it another year that they may make up the number of months which God has hallowed so that they permit what God has forbidden (Quran 9:37), and forbid what God has allowed. Time has completed its cycle and is as it was on the day that God created the heavens and the earth. The number of months with God is twelve. Four of them are sacred." Sunni references: - Sira, by Ibn Hisham at the end of Chapter of "Farewell Pilgrimage", p968 - The Life of Muhammad (English translation of Sira Ibn Hisham), Translated into English by A. Guillaume, 1955 Edition, London, p651 12- In a tradition on the authority of Jabir (ra), Imam Muhammad al-Baqir, the fifth Imam of Ahlul-Bait, interprets the above verse which is as follows: Jabir said: I asked Imam Muhammad al-Baqir about the meaning of the verse: "Verily the number of the months … (9:36)." He (as) breathed long (out of sorrow) and said: "O Jabir, The 'year' is my grandfather, the messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF), and his family are its 'months' who are the twelve Imams, and are … (naming the Imams one by one). They are the Proofs of Allah on His creation, and Trusties of His revelations and His knowledge. And Those of 'four sacred who are the firm religion' are those four who have the same name, and are Ali, the Commander of Faithful (as), and my father Ali Ibn al-Husain (as), and later Ali Ibn Musa (as), and Ali Ibn Muhammad (as). Thus acknowledging these four is 'the firm religion, so wrong not your souls in them' and believe in all of them to be guided." Shi'i reference: Kitab al-Ghaiba, by Shaikh Tusi. 13- The 12 Imams are from Ahll al bayat a.s. These are not separated from Quran. If, we carry out further research to see where this word (Imam), then the following facts are revealed: Imam The total count of the verse which contain the word (Imam) is 12 where this word has been used exactly 12 times in the honor of these Imams from Ahl al bayat. A.S.The same resemblance has been defined in the table given in link shown below: http://www.scribd.com/doc/139724408/Imams-Table Thus it is proven that these 12 Imams from Ahl al bayat are kept pure and sinless. They are never separated from Quran. We have been ordered by the Prophet to follow Ahl Albayat (Masoomeen a.s.) including these 12 Imams in order to keep ourselves on Sirat e mustaqeem thus avoiding astray.
  9. In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. As salaam Wa alaykum brothers & sisters. Recently I was listening to a lecture given by Seyed Ammar Nakswani and in the lecture he spoke about how some people bash Islam because they have nothing written about the Prophet (pbuh) until 150 after his death... At first I was confused and even more confused when Nakshwani then said they have a point and the Sunni Sahih hadiths and other ones like that were compiled around 150 years after the prophets (pbuh) death... But then he mentioned a book called "kitab-e-sulaym ibn Qays al Hilali" He said that this was the first book of hadiths compiled by one of the companions of RasulAllah (saws) and AhlulBayt only 50 years after the death of the prophet. He then mentioned a hadtih from Imam As-Sadiq (as) "If anyone of our Shia does not have the book of Sulaym Ibn Qays Al Hilali, then he does not have any of our things and does not know an of our matters." Perhaps some of you already have this book but for those who don't, I want to share it with you so inshAllah all the followers of AhulBayt can have this book. Here's the link: http://www.scribd.com/mobile/documents/73073275/download?secret_password=2lx5n00bya7f4rikquik If that didn't work, this should work inshAllah: http://www.scribd.com/mobile/documents/73073275/download?secret_password=2lx5n00bya7f4rikquik Btw, I am on my iPad at the moment so I do apologize if it doesn't work if you are using a computer because the link may be for those using a mobile device or an iPad ect. But you would be able to go to scribd.com and just search for that book and it will come up inshAllah :) Wassalaam
  10. Salaam to all. Has there been any compilation of hadiths which both Shia and Sunni agree upon ?

  12. 44 HADITHS FOR VITUES of IMAM ALI (A.S.) I have got these hadiths mentioning the virtues of Imam Ali AS, from facebook and these are being presented for sharing of information: HADITH 1: عن أبي حمزة الثمالي قال: سمعت علي بن الحسين عليهما السلام يقول: إن فاطمة بنت أسد رضي الله عنها ضربها الطلق وهي في الطواف، فدخلت الكعبة فولدت أمير المؤمنين علي عليه السلام فيها. Abu hamzah Thumali narrats that he heard Imam al-Sajjad ('a) say: Fatimah bint Asad ('a) was circumambulating the Ka'bah when suddenly she appeared to feel the pangs of birth. She entered the Ka'bah and it is in the Ka'bah that 'Ali (a) was born. HADITH 2: وروي عن عتاب بن أسيد أنه قال: ولد أمير المؤمنين علي بن أبن طالب عليه السلام بمكة في بيت الله الحرام يوم الجمعة لثلاث عشرة ليلة خلت من رجب، وللنبي صلى الله عليه وآله ثمان و عشرون سنة، قبل النبوة باثنتين عشرة سنة Attab ibn Usayd narrates: Amir al-Mu'min 'Ali ibn Abi Talib ('a) was born on Friday, the thirteenth day of Rajab, in the Holy precint of Ka'bah, in Mecca, twelve years before the Prophet's (proclamation of) Messengership of Allah. At that time the Prophet (s) was twenty eight years old. HADITH 3: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: خير من يمشي على وجه الأرض بعدي علي بن أبي طالب. The Prophet (S) said: 'After me, the best to walk on earth is 'Ali. HADITH 4: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله لعلي عليه السلام: أنت خير أمتي في الدنيا والآخرة. The Prophet (S) said: You are the best of my Followers both on earth and in the hereafter. HADITH 5: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: علي خير البشر، من أبى فقد كفر. The Prophet (S) said: 'Ali is the best of Mankind. Only an infidel will dispute this. HADITH 6: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وآله: يا علي! أنت خير البشر، ولا يشك فيك إلا كافر. The Prophet (S) said: O 'Ali, you are the best of mankind. Only an infidel would deny this. Aban reports frm salim who said: With many others we were sitting in the mosque at Kufah, when 'Ali (a) said: Before you lose me (forever) ask me about anything about the Book of Allah. There is not a single verse that was not recited to me by the Prophet (S) who also explained to me its exoteric and esoteric meanings. HADITH 8: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله: لكل نبي وصي ووارث، وإن عليا وصيي ووارثي. 13. Asking For Forgiveness Imam al-Baqir has reported: My father sent his slave on mission but he delayed in fulfilling it. He lashed him with one stroke. The slave said, “O Ali ibn al-Husayn. You send me on a mission and hit me!” My father cried, saying, “My son! Go to the grave of the Holy Prophet, perform a two-unit prayer and say: O Lord: Forgive Ali ibn al-Husayn on the Judgment Day.” Then he said to the slave, “You are free in the way of Allah.” Abu-Basir says: I said to the Imam, “May I be your ransom. It seems that setting a slave free is the atonement of hitting him!” But the Imam kept silent.[2] Retaliation Imam al-Rida reports: Ali ibn al-Husayn hit his slave on one occasion. Being sorry, he entered home, took off his shirt and while giving a lash to his slave said, “Hit Ali ibn al-Husayn!” The slave refused to do and the Imam gave him fifty Dinars.[3] How could these hadiths be true if the Imam's (peace be upon them) are infallible? please explain, thanks.

  15. As salam alaykum wa rahmatullah, Since becoming Muslim, and as a follower of the Ahlulbayt AS, I have always been surprised about the small amount of books that have been translated in English. When you go to a sunni bookshop, you will find all their books of ahadiths and others widely available, and at cheap price. However, we find that we dont even have all our Kutub al arba translated, apart from Al Kafi, which is not available anymore and was extremely expensive... I just don't understand, why is it only the elite which have access to knowledge, and why people like me or you do not have access to that knowledge?? Surely, there will be people capable of translating those books.... Your thoughts please.
