  1. When I explain to people that I'm Muslim, I'm often held responsible for the entire Islamic world's insecurities. People are usually very happy that I have the alternative lifestyle thing until they remember things like women's hijab, prohibition of alcohol and gambling and then that joyful moment is replaced with questions. To say gambling is prohibited because "God says no" doesnt quite go deep enough for the western mind. In a discussion I had recently I made the point that we submit to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) and trusting Him is something we want to do. The promise of the lottery ticket is "You need me because I provide materials such as cash (your God doesn't)" which takes the place of the larger idea of Provision, provided by God. It is much bigger than simply the lottery. The asprin says "Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) can't heal your headache, you need me". The expensive clothes say "your God isn't present so you need to flaunt yourself" Even your bank account is saying "rely on me" Gambling is not an evil of itself, it is part of a much larger argument which says Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is not present and that is the problem. Once we understand this point we know what we have to do.
  2. Asalaam Alaykum, I have a question regarding gambling. One of my friend is using the investment app called Plus500. Basically this app is online marketing. You could pay them money and invest in oil, bitcoin, money, zilver, gold etc. Does anyone have any familiarity with this app? Is this considered gambling? I am very worried about my friend and like to help her out. Thank you, Sara
  3. Salaam, What are Islamic rulings and your thoughts on sports tournaments? In my city, various sports tournaments are held throughout the city. These are paid tournaments with an entrance fee and a winner's prize. Sports include table tennis (single & double), basketball and cricket mostly. Let's say I can enter any one of those tournaments for an entry fee of $10. The winner's prize is $100. Is this gambling? These are not games of chances but there is a chance to win or lose. Acceptable?
  4. Hi, If someone does gambling but receives no benefit from it in terms of money gained. But sincerely regretted his actions and repented. Would they have to do anything else other than repent? I know it may be different if you won money from it, but in this case, no money was won. But, to increase awareness, please explain what to do if money was won as well! Thanks,
  5. Yup, exactly proves Islam's point on why gambling is haram. Show this video to any of your family members who play the lottery or gamble. **Warning Profanity, Non-Hijabi's, Music is used ****
  6. (bismillah) (salam) Okay, so to get this straight, betting on horse racing is allowed as long as you are not a random onlooker or an owner of the horse. Wat? Who else is even involved? I live near a horse racing track and betting goes on quite frequently. The owners of the horses and the onlookers bet on who will win. Who is betting if it's not onlookers or owners? Why is it halal for them but not for the rest of us? (wasalam)
