  1. Hi, I live in the UK and I study Law and sociology at university. Can anyone tell me a link to a website or any information on how to get entry to Qom Hawza, I am looking to start full time education at Qom hawza after I finish my Law degree. Also can you tell me if the education and accommodation is free or do I have to pay. I heard it was free and they give you accommodation as well as spending money. the qomicis.org website isn't working for me I don't know why, if you could tell me why I would be grateful. Thanks everyone.
  2. Salam everyone. I'm interested in studying Shia Islami Tibb and Hijama, and pursuing a career in it. I have searched Google for information related to the institutes which teach these subjects but I couldn't find much information. I would appreciate information about cheap tuition fee institutes which offer courses/degrees/certifications in Hijama, Shia Islami Tibb. Please help.
  3. Interested to know what your interests are in academia/ line of work! Personally I study science as a Futuremedstudent
  4. Salam Especially asking parents, but I'd appreciate input from young people too. My seven year old is a math wiz, and pretty quick to pick up science concepts too, but she is reluctant to pick up a book and read. I'd like to encourage her to develop her natural math ability, but I'd also like to encourage her to become a reader. If a person can read, they can teach themselves anything, and through fiction we experience scenarios we would never encounter in real life, increasing wisdom. She likes books that involve cats and magic, but there are (as might be expected) a limited number of those, especially when it's further limited to second/third grade reading level. Any suggestions for books, or even puzzle or math books or games that might get her reading but are still fun and age appropriate? @Haji 2003? Any expertise to share?
  5. If a boy has one of the 3 signs like pubic hair or ejaculation. Is he baligh at age 10.
  6. Salam everybody !! The IMF (Imam Al Mahdi Fund) strives to provide access for higher education through partnerships, scholarships, and monetary endowments to underprivileged Lebanese's youth. Their programs cater for graduate students or undergraduates, including opportunities in Lebanese or European universities. To apply, visit the foundation’s site: https://www.imamalmahdifund.com
  7. Salaam, I am an American Shia Muslim, raised Sunni. I learned about the Ahlul Bayt and read some more then came to the conclusion that to be the Shia of Ali was the right path. I only really know the surface levels of Shia Islamic practices, but just like the Sunni Madhabs, there is a lot of variance in opinion on several things. Ayatollah Sistanis website has been very helpful, and I tend to refer to his judgement for consistency, but is there anything in the west or online where one can get a foundation on Shia fiqh? (Since I live in America, going to Iraq or Iran really is not an option for now.)
  8. Hello! My family is planning to move back to Iraq after 20 years in Sweden and I have accepted that. My only problem is that I don't know how the education system for Iraq's high school work and how many subjects they have and what kind of subjects. Also, is the education good there? Every answer is much appreciated.
  9. Salam Alaikum my dear brothers and sisters, I'm starting college in two days please make dua for me to succeed in all of my classes and pass with straight A's. jazakallah khayr
  10. Salam, Is there anyone here who completed their undergrad in science or is doing it? What major exactly? What are you doing with your degree in science or what do you plan on doing with it? Are you doing a masters/phD now? I would love to know. I'm really grateful to have the privilege of getting an education, but I'm feeling really stuck and a little bit hopeless tbh. There's too many options as to what you can do, but everything is just so competitive and demanding!! Also, everyone talks about going into med/pharm/dent/optometry etc after their undergrad... but is there ANYONE who went into industry? Like work in a lab or something? If so how's it like? I don't want to graduate and still be deciding on what to do ._.
  11. Education for all no gender discrimination in education ,,,,, educated women mean healthy society
  12. I am 17, and I am considering studying psychology, but in order to get a job I need at least a master's degree...and the girl I want to marry is my age (17), and so I'm worried if I wait until after I get my master's degree to court her, she'd have gotten married by then....and she also lives in another US state, so she would have to move about 6 hours by car....so my question to you is, would a sister want to marry a brother in grad school, because grad students don't make much money.....although her dad is an imam, so I'm sure she would be used to not having a lot of money....
  13. I have been great fascinated by economics and business for quite a while now....on the economics exams in the 10th grade, I was in the 99th percentile in the nation.....(Im in 11th grade now).......is it haram to major in business administration so long as one does not work with riba, and is this possible?

  15. - Dear brothers and sisters, I was wondering, is this site legit? http://www.mu.edu.lb/main/ Do any of you know any hawzas to study at? I've looked at Qom, I don't have the monetary means to go there. Looked at Najaf, but as I am typing this, Iraq is too unstable. Looked at London, but some brothers and sisters told me to stay away the hawzas in the UK. I looked at several in the US, but I really don't want to be sticking around for a Trump or Clinton presidency. I really would like study at a hawza. I been discouraged a couple times but my desire to study there has not waned. I do not know why this but I have never felt so sure of this until now. Only other thing that I feel passionate studying about is studying Chinese in China. Quite honestly, I am unsure because I have nobody to talk about this or Islam in general, in person. I would rather if anything, learn Arabic in an Arabic speaking environment where I can use my knowledge. Going to hawza, especially for me, is going to be basically crossing the Rubicon. Once, I do this, I can't turn back and have a strange and difficult path before me. Yes, I am aware of this and maybe the absurdity of it given my special challenges but I have no preconceived notions of glory, I understand that it is a science and should be treated as such but I feel strongly compelled to become a mufassir. I tried convincing myself that I should study and be something else but my mind keeps going to back to the idea of hawza. I would like for you to be brutally honest with me, would it be worth going to Lebanon? I am aware from the "Any Hawza in Lebanon" thread, that the sheikhs of the hawzas may not speak English. Would they even accept an English speaking person from the US? How would I apply? Would it be a fool's errand if I did bother to study in Lebanon? If it is, I'll reconsider but I really yearn to study more about my faith.
  16. Assalamallikum, We all have informational gaps in our education that should have been mentioned/covered in school. Here is a good example: The first art historian, in the modern sense, was Giorgio Vasari. He wrote the volumes "The Lives ..." in which he coined several words of modern usage: --rinascita --Rennaissance-- --concorronza -completion, which has a capitalist sense because artists competed for patronage --goth -became Gothic Architecture though Vasari meant it in a derogatory sense as goth=barbaric --Byzantine --as "eastern" Rome, which is named after an 8th Century BCC/BCE city on the site of what will become Constantinople Here is a good three page read for college students -which High Schoolers can use (like to impress their instructors)- on Byzantine Studies: --- http://www.oxfordhandbooks.com/view/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199252466.001.0001/oxfordhb-9780199252466-e-001 ------within this article is a reference to Tainter's "The Collapse of Complex Societies" . Reading his bio on Wiki is a start and a summation on his theses. plus: a word for describing Islamic (and other) art: tessellate -to form into a mosaic
  17. Dear all, Salamun alaikum Recently we have had a project from the Shia community on our crowdfunding platform for the disadvantaged children of families and Ulemas in Islamabad. They are asking for sponsorship of 8 of them for 2016. our of £3,400 almost 35% has been pledged, however if they don't hit their 100% target, they will not even receive the £1,140 pounds pledged so far, that's how pledging and crowdfunding works. http://bit.ly/1o22i1B Hereby we would like to ask the community on here to spread the word about this project on social media, mobile messaging apps etc. There are various videos and photos about the project as below if it helps you further: Please do let us know if you manage to raise any funds and you would become part of our international volunteers team, we will thank you on a blog post and social media accounts and can give you any reference if needed for job search. Really appreciate any help. Kind Regards, Taha Funder Crowdfunding Platform
  18. What is Religion! We must know about religion, what it is, to develop to know our position to it. How can we practice Islam that is a religion-not any religion but religion to the whole creation beyond derby -, without knowing about what religion is. Sure all are good and excellent followers of Islam, but Islam is a religion so what is religion again! What specific thoughts occur in you, please let us know. If it is not cool to mention I, AGAIN I AM, than maybe we should use 'you'- hmm how logical is this sentence -. Our scholars say religion has three parts-or 3 whatever - that is: Ahklaq, Aqaed and fiqh- respectively Ethic-ethical morality, belief and jurisprudence-Islamic law -. If any religion misses one of these parts, that religion is defected, handicap,or either sick but can we say it is no religion! Why Islam is the last holy religion to humanity? You have probably confronted the above question in your life! In this topic following questions should be dealt with: What is religion? What is a defected religion? If we accept the concept of religion, than why should we accept Islamic religion and not any other Ibrahimic religion; what answer is needed here? Why Islam the final stage, what can we say about the development of religion because we read in the holy Quran, some Prophets Peace upon Them said that we are muslim! Hope this topic is successful Allah will, and this 'riter a excellent host to guests participating in this topic. Please leave your view and thoughts, this servant will be frugal in using posts to develop text in this regard.
  19. This kind of thread has probably been done 100 times but it's important to know how to organize so if you have any ideas please do state. As Shia Muslims we must organize under: - Politics - Intelligence (Long stretch but have a intelligence that helps and looks out for our community) - Education (make sure we as a community are well educated especially in the west we're lucky enough) - Entertainment (in terms of having an influence also there as well) - Media - A certain form of secrecy Also Lobbying by having our own lobbies in government striving to help our community have a voice. I might gets some backlash for mentioning Entertainment but we also need show ourselves in such a way where it distances us from the terrorists. If anyone else has idea's then please do state them. Peace be with you all, Syeduddin

  21. Hello! I was wondering if somebody could please help me and guide me in the right direction with a few things. 1)Okay, so my GCSE exams are about to start soon and I have been coming into a bit of axeity latley causing me to loose sleep at nights, but I have been doing namaz as normal and I have been making prayers asking Allah for help, but sometimes after I finish my namaz I can sometimes feel that nobody is listening to my prayers, but I eventually calm myself down saying to myself that Allah will allways be listening to my prayers and my wishes will be granted if I work hard and be a good Muslim, both of which I have been doing. Does anyone know how to help? I don't like doing this as I deeply love Allah with all my might, I just hate the doubt that sometimes comes to mind. 2) As you will know Ramadan will be starting soon and as always, I am going to be really bored as at this time my exams would have finished, so I plan to buy a Chello to stop my boredom and give me something to do. Does anyone know if playing a musical instrument is Halal? Because sometimes higher education can sometimes ask if you do and I don't want to be at a disadvantage. And is listening to classical music harram too? Just wondering. 3) Okay so this was a question that I was really confused about, I was wondering if I could grow my hair to a really long length even though I am male. Would if effect my namaz or wuddu in anyway? Thank you!
  22. Sallam Alikum, What's the difference between Juz, and Chapter? And also where do we know what chapter is a surah in? Just by counting the surah? Or how does it work?
  23. Sallam, I was wondering is there a legit credited Hawza in The U.S? Otherwise what's a good English spoken Hawza? Anyone know how good/reputation of Hawza Illmiya of England? JAK, Sallam.
