My cooking skills are rudimentary at best.I would like to know if any brothers/sisters have used a wood fire clay oven before.I have so far learned to make pizza from but failed when I tried to cook a leg of mutton.Would love to hear @Darth Vader thoughts since his are only cooking posts I have read so far.

  3. My mom always refers me as her bad son, because I like restaurant food more than home cooked meals.. Every night she calls me and ask me about my plans that where am I going to have lunch; home or restaurant... Is that an inappropriate thing to get your meal from restaurant/hotel?
  4. This topic is about the blunders we have made in our cooking conquests and lessons we can learn from ourselves and each other. Or we can just share funny stories :D All in the name of learning how to cook! 1) Once when I was making pizza dough, I needed a warm place for the dough to rise so I figured I should put it in the oven. But the oven temp only went down to 170. So I put the bowl of dough in the oven and set it to broil and walked away. When I came back an hour later I looked in the oven and there was a ball of hard dough and puddle of melted plastic. I was horrified! Lessons learned: Broiling is hot!! Not warm like I thought :dry: . A warm place for dough to rise is in the microwave above the stove or oven (but don't turn the microwave on!) 2) I was making shrimp quesadillas and along with the shrimp and cheese, I decided to add a bunch of spices to give it some kick! So I looked at the ingredients of a shrimp boil seasoning thing we had to see what kind of spices would be good. I glanced at it and it said cumin or coriander (can't remember now, always get the C words mixed up) and accidentally put in a bunch of cardomom. I excitedly finished making the quesadillas but when I took a bite, it tasted absolutely gross. Inedible. Except to my brother who ate them all. Lessons learned: Cardamom is not a savory spice--never ever put it in savory food. Ever. Also, quesadillas don't need spices, they have enough flavor on their own. Also, some men will eat anything :sick:
  5. (bismillah) (salam) The title says it all, How do you make gravy? I love it but don't know how to make it and I haven't had it for a looong time. Your recipe can be smooth, thick, lumpy ... whichever way you know how to make it. Oh and please don't link me to websites telling me how to make it, I can search on the internet myself. I want someones recipe please JazakAllah Khair ! :D
