  4. As salamu aleikoum, As a law student, I would like to know if there is any hadith (shia if possible) about acquiring secular knowledge. I know there are a lot of hadiths about acquiring knowledge but I wonder if these hadiths only speak about religious knowledge. I recall a mollah talking about one of our Imams (as) giving a long chemistry lesson to someone though. Also, I heard that one is not considered a true shia if there is anyone better/more successful in their village. Again, I don't know what exactly this hadith means. The mollah stressed that as a muslim/shia you should be the best at everything you do, although he didn't mention any narration about that (starting from 7:30).

  6. Hello guys, I'm an 18 year old Lebanese guy living in the USA. I'm probably the most religious and smartest one in the family. I'm not saying I wanna get married now but I would like to get married like 2 years before I finish college (around 21-22). My mom keeps saying no, I have to finish college first and start a career job. I think I can work a decent job while I finish my studies and get married. I feel like all Lebanese parents are like that. Anyone else deal with the same? Thoughts?

  11. As'Salaamu Alaikum, First of all, this if my first time posting on ShiaChat, so forgive me if I do/say something wrong. I'm actually a college student, and a student journalist. I also write for my school newspaper. This semester, I started a column sin which I address some of the misconceptions people have about Islam. Students email me questions/comments and I respond via my column. I'm finding that I often have the "correct" answer, but those commenting are not willing to accept it. They are not convinced. My question is for any revert who is willing to answer. It is not a big surprise that Islam is not seen well in the West. there are often misconceptions attatched to Islamic practicies that are further spread due to the ignorance of the media. When you first converted, I'm assuming you also knew about these misconceptions/stigmas. Can you explain what some of these misconceptions were and what you were told or what you read that made you think twice. I think it'll help me if I get an answer from someone who has been in the situation my readers are in to help me better explain my point to them. I would like to add that I'm not necessarily trying to convert them to Islam, but just to promote a better understanding of the religion. Thanks in advance
