There are numerous indications that the U.S. and Israel are recalibrating their reliance on the KSA/UAE and instead shifting their support to Turkey/Qatar in the MENA and elsewhere. Saudi/Emirati proxy Egypt, which previously opposed Turkish influence in Libya, is now willing to concede Turkish involvement there, while also improving ties with Ankara. U.S. President Biden has just designated Turkey’s financial patron Qatar as a major non-NATO ally. At the same time, the Biden administration is now opposing the Saudi- and Emirati-backed EastMed pipeline, which would have involved Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus as well as Israel, in favour of shipping Israeli gas to Europe via Turkey, complementing Qatar’s plans to serve as an alternative source of energy in Europe should Russia be excluded by the West. Previously Israel had spoken out in favour of Turkey’s playing a role in transporting Israeli gas to Europe, to the detriment of Egypt and its plans to invest in the EastMed pipeline. Reportedly, Israel viewed the EastMed pipeline as too expensive and giving undue weight to nationalist forces in Egypt, Greece, and the GCC. Turkey and Qatar also working with the U.S. and its clients to support the Taliban in Afghanistan by helping run the main airport in Kabul. I think that Iran is currently focussing too much on the KSA/UAE and has instead neglected the potentially greater threat posed by Turkey and Qatar on behalf of NATO and Israel.

The desecration of graves belonging to Sufi saints and sages in recent months have put the peaceful Sufis on the defensive, prompting some to post armed guards at their mosques and lodges to ward off hardline thugs. But the birthday of Islam's Prophet Mohammad, one of the highpoints in the Sufi calendar, is on Saturday and Libyan Sufis are determined to take their traditional processions through the streets to show they will not be cowed. At a meeting of Sufi scholars to plan the celebrations, Sheikh Adl Al-Aref Al-Hadad said even being driven out of his zawiyah (Islamic school) late last year by Islamists known as Salafis would not deter him from marching. "I'm worried but I'm not afraid," said Al-Hadad, whose Tripoli school was stormed by armed men who burned its library, destroyed office equipment and dug up graves of sages buried there. They turned the school into a Salafi mosque. On January 13, extremists crashed a bulldozer through the walls of the old cemetery in the eastern city of Benghazi, destroyed its tombs and carried off 29 bodies of respected sages and scholars. They also demolished a nearby Sufi school. Sheikh Khaled Mohammad Saidan, whose Dargut Pasha Mosque faces Tripoli's port, said most Islamists in post-Gaddafi Libya disagreed with Sufis, but peacefully. "But there are no police around and you never know what some people might do," he added. PIETY OR IDOLATRY? Sufi lodges from around Tripoli will march on Saturday through narrow alleys of the walled old town, waving flags and chanting poems in praise of Mohammad to the beat of cymbals, drums and tambourines. To the puritanical Salafis, these practices amount to bida (innovation) and shirk (idolatry), both grave sins that must be stopped, by force if necessary. Sufism, a mystical strain in both Sunni and Shi'ite Islam, dates back to the early days of the faith. Apart from their prayers, Sufi devotions include singing hymns, chanting the names of God or dancing to heighten awareness of the divine. Revered saints, scholars and holy people are buried in shrines and some are honored with annual pilgrimages. While many Islamic scholars say this is admissible, puritanical schools of Islam such as Saudi Arabia's Wahhabis or the Afghan Taliban consider it heretical. As pious and peaceful believers, Sufis have been easy targets for violent Islamists seeking political power. The Pakistani Taliban have attacked Sufi shrines and mosques there in recent years and Salafi attacks on Sufis broke out last year after Egypt's protesters toppled President Hosni Mubarak. GADDAFI'S BIZARRE ISLAM Gaddafi had a bizarre and fickle relationship with Islam, using it when it boosted his authority but suppressing it whenever faith seemed to be the first step towards dissent. At one point in the 1980s, anyone going to morning prayers in a mosque risked arrest as a religious extremist. The dictator denied there was a split between Sunnis and Shi'ites. He blew hot and cold on the Prophet's birthday event known as Mawlid, sometimes limiting it in Libya but leading mass celebrations in African cities in his self-appointed role as a pan-African and pan-Islamic leader. Traditional religious schools were shut and religious education was reduced to a few basics about Islam and heavy emphasis on memorizing the Koran. Gaddafi even abolished the Dar al Ifta, the central authority for issuing religious rulings or fatwas, and Libya offered no such advice to its Muslims from 1978 until the office was restored after rebels chased him from power last August. "He did everything but give people carpets and say pray to him rather than Allah," one imam remarked. All this undermined Libya's traditional Islam, a balanced Sunni version with Sufi influences. Some Muslims began looking abroad for inspiration, especially to Saudi Arabia, and brought back a more austere Islam that mixed up the religious landscape. "Nobody knows anymore what they are," said Sufi theologian Aref Ali Nayed when asked what the majority was in Libyan Islam. "We have 42 years of Gaddafi to thank for that." OUTFLANKED POLITICALLY Libya's Sufis also worry they are being outflanked politically. Many new religious officials have Salafi leanings, they say, and are appointing Salafi imams to mosques vacated by pro-Gaddafi preachers. Salafi preaching is now widespread on Libyan television and radio, they say. Salafis have also begun denouncing traditional imams to the authorities, prompting them to be replaced by hardliners. "About half the imams here have been replaced by Salafis," said one imam at a large Tripoli mosque where Salafis in the congregation are campaigning against celebrating Mawlid. Political parties are starting to form, including the Muslim Brotherhood. Libyan Salafis have not yet announced if they plan to launch a party and contest elections, as in Egypt. Sheikh Mohammad Jafari, whose mosque is pockmarked from the fighting over Gaddafi's Bab Al-Azizaya compound just across the street, said Sufis had to stand up for their beliefs. "Sufis uphold the values of love and brotherhood," he said. "We believe in dialogue and difference of opinions. We want to build a Libya of diversity."

It is with great disappointment that I receive the news from foreign media publications and Libyan sources that our President now has 12,000 U.S. troops stationed in Malta and they are about to make their descent into Libya. For those of you who have not followed closely the situation in Libya, the resistance to rule of the National Transitional Council is strong. The National Transitional Council (NTC) cast of characters has about as much support on the ground as did Mahmoud Abbas before the United Nations request for Palestinian statehood or Afghanistan’s regal-looking but politically impotent Hamid Karzai or for that matter, George W Bush after eight years. The NTC not only has to contend with a vibrant, well-financed, grassroots-supported resistance, but the various militias of the NTC are now also fighting each other. I believe this “sociocide” of Libyan society, as we previously witnessed in Iraq and Afghanistan before it, is part of a carefully crafted plan of destabilization that ultimately serves U.S. imperial interests and those of a Zionist state and its US agents who are bent on Greater Israel’s suzerainty over huge swaths of Arabic-speaking populations. Pakistan is also on the list for neutering in Muslim and world affairs, saddled with its own unpopular civilian leadership that finds itself in the hip pocket of the United States for survival, often getting sat upon by its fiscal guarantor. ' The British government has launched a misleading campaign, claiming to destroy stockpiles of chemical weapons while itself had sold chemical components required for their production. During the four decades that Muammar Gaddafi was in power, the Western powers have filled their pockets with money gained from selling arms to the oil-rich country. Despite the UN Security Council's Resolution 748, which had imposed an arms embargo on Libya in 1992, Muammar Gaddafi spent nearly USD 30bn on weapons, making a rich stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. The British government that claims to be a signatory to the international Chemical Weapons Convention -- according to which the production, stockpiling, and use of chemical weapons is illegal -- has sold chemical components to brutal regimes, including the Gaddafi's, in order to produce weapons of mass destruction. In a scathing article published in the Sunday Herald in 2002, Neil Mackay -- the newspaper's multi-award winning home affairs and investigations editor -- revealed the UK government's involvement in chemical weapons sales. Driven by greed and a profound lack of morality, the British government violated the Chemical Weapons Convention by selling chemicals to brutal regimes that would produce weapons of war. Gaddafi, who was not a signatory to the convention, was supplied with chemical components by the British government. Moreover, Mackay explicitly revealed the British government's greed by disclosing the name of the most brutal regimes to which the UK had sold chemicals. Among the countries were Yemen, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. Other countries to which Britain had sold chemical components were Cyprus, India, Kenya, Kuwait, Malaysia, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Turkey and Uganda. The report stated that Britain's Department of Trade and Industry has clearly admitted that the British government had sold toxic chemical precursors, essential chemicals for creating weapons of mass destruction, to 26 countries. Nevertheless, in a pose to present itself as a pro-democracy government, the British government has announced plans to send experts to Libya in order to destroy Gaddafi's newly disclosed stockpiles of chemical weapons which have been reportedly unknown to British officials who claim “Gaddafi has totally misled Tony Blair when he promised to destroy weapons of mass destruction.”

Okay, so apparently some 18-19 year old teen shot Qaddafi dead, however is that truly the story? Qaddafi was very "strong/powerful" and somewhat an intelligent man, he knew HEAPS of super important secrets, and new for a fact that his life is in danger, and that everyone would hunt him down eventually. So would it really be that easy to find him? Didn't he have a hiding spot? Anyone of his "importance" would've... Or was he killed off because he knew too much, and who ever wanted him dead, didn't want him to let the cat out the bag, not to mention he became powerless, useless and vulnerable (so he would've been a threat), so they gave away his position, or whatever to get him killed? I mean how stupid must those people be to have tortured and killed him straight away, without knocking some secrets out of him, for example where Sayed Moussa is, and whether he's dead or alive! (P.S. excuse my title, i have no idea what happened there :rolleyes: )

"KILLING THE TRUTH":: Mahdi Nazemroaya Threatened by NATO's "Pro-Democracy" Rebels. We ask our readers to reflect on what Mahdi was attempting to achieve at the media center of the Rixos hotel: honest factual reporting, with a concern for human life, in solidarity with those Libyan men, women and children who lost their lives in bombing raids on residential areas, schools and hospitals. Mahdi's life is threatened for telling the truth, for exposing NATO war crimes. "Democracy building" in Libya, we are told, requires the extensive bombing of an entire country, under NATO's "Responsibility to Protect" (R2P). But Mahdi questions that concept. He challenges the very foundations of war propaganda, which upholds an act of war as a peacemaking endeavor. In the course of the last few days, all our time and energy have been directed towards ensuring the safety of Mahdi, Thierry and several other independent journalists trapped in the Rixos Hotel. The atmosphere within the media centre of the Rixos Hotel in Tripoli must be understood. The mainstream media, including CNN and the BBC have direct links to NATO, the Transitional Council and Rebel Forces. They are serving NATO interests in a direct way through massive media distortion. At the same time, those within the Rixos Media Centre who are committed to the truth are the the object of veiled threats. In the case of Mahdi, the threats were very explicit. Those who say the truth are threatened. Those who lie and accept the NATO consensus, their lives will be protected. NATO special forces operating within rebel ranks will ensure their safety. In this unsavoury environment, personal ties have broken down. The independent media journalists as well as those from non-NATO countries including China, Iran, Latin America are considered "persona non grata" by the mainstream media groups within the hotel. Mahdi says the truth. He directly challenges the lies of the mainstream media. Mahdi's reports threaten the NATO-media consensus. What he is describing is the destruction of an entire country, of its institutions, its infrastructure. This killing and destruction, we are told, is required to instate "democracy" under the colonial flag of King Idris. We are being lied to in the most despicable way. The victims of NATO aggression are designated as "war criminals", whereas the perpetrators of war are welcomed as Liberators. The lie has become the truth. and that's why Mahdi life is threatened. War becomes peace, according to the NATO consensus. The "international community" has given a rubber stamp to NATO's bombing campaign on the grounds that Gadaffi is a dictator. Repeated ad nauseam, people ultimately accept the consensus. Killing is a peacemaking endeavor. How could it be otherwise: Every single news media across the land, people in government, intellectuals have accepted this consensus. Realities are turned upside down. People are no longer able to think. They accept the consensus because it emanates from a higher authority which they dare not question. In fact that is the very basis of an inquisitorial doctrine. The "humanitarian" underpinnings of "Responsiblity to Protect", however, outdwarf the Spanish Inquisition by a long shot. What we are dealing with is a dogma which nobody can question. Mahdi Nazemroaya has challenged this consensus by revealing the lies of the mainstream media. Once the NATO consensus is broken, the legitimacy of the warmongers collapses like a deck of cards. And that is why Mahdi Nazemroaya's life is threatened. This is warfare in the 21st Century. It is a war which claims not to be a war. All the protocols and conventions pertaining to war do not apply. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is not to be found on the ground. They have no mandate because officially this is not a war. This is the most despicable and immoral war in history, to the extent that even antiwar activists, left wing politicians and so-called progressives applaud. "Gadaffi is the dictator, he must go". Its a Blitzkrieg with the most advanced weapons systems. 20,000 sorties since March 31, according to NATO stats, close to 8000 strike sorties. Each strike sortie involves several targets, most of which are civilian targets. Compare this to the bombings of World War II or Vietnam...
