saw it on wordpress.. quoting As of last week players of the game “World of Warcraft” in Iran have been denied access to the game due to the American sanctions that have been placed on the country. Not only have they been blocked from accessing World of Warcraft, they will no longer be able to access Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. With that in place the players have also been denied any refunds to accounts that may have been charged on their subscriptions just before the company blocked access and to any players who would have bought the upcoming expansion Mist of Pandaria. The sanctions that have been put in place stop American companies from doing business with any country the government have deemed something of a threat due to political turmoil. The reason for the sanction was due to Iran’s nuclear program, which is suspected of being used to create weapons of mass destruction. However, the Iranian government states that the program is to create clean energy and to be used for peaceful purposes. The tension between these countries have been growing over the years, causing many political problems that’s having an effect on the people of the country. At a convention in Iran called “” (IRGDC) a brochure by the Iranian Governments Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance was passed around stating that World of Warcraft was an “example of the means [by] which western propaganda is used to poison the mind of the youth population of Iran.” Blizzard had over the week tightened up their procedure and protocols to ensure that they abide by the US Law, but this has been speculated for reasons being the increasing tension between the countries, or may have been the company is taking action due to the IRGDC. With this happening it does seem like the US could be unintentionally punishing the people of Iran instead of just the government alone. That being said on the other hand you do have the Iranian Government slandering the western worlds culture, along with saying the game is promoting superstition and mythology along with promoting of violence and shows of inappropriate clothing and slutty outfits for female characters. Blizzard have a 9-10 million strong fan-base for their games and Iran only represents a small percentage of the community, even-so Blizzard have stated that they will be happy to allow the players back into the game once US Sanction laws allows them to do so. ..../...
