The 17/18March TED Radio Hour was a repeat of the 23Oct16 program. In this program the early history of our Net origins is reviewed. l thought it is good because it is both history and technology. www comes from CERN and _____. Amongst some people it is fashionable to lay the blame for various types of social dysfunctionality in Muslim countries on Islam. Contrasts are often made with conditions in developed countries. I often contend that the difference is more an artefact of poverty and other socio-economic factors, than religion. So for example, the extreme violence that we see undertaken by ISIS has parallels with the violence delivered by south American drug lords (including macabre ways of killing people). And in both instances, this is a method for exercising control rather than an artefact of ideology. The following story illustrates another form of social dysfunctionality in another non-Muslim country. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/may/31/live-streaming-child-sex-abuse-family-business-philippines

Salam un Aliekum, I am Abrar Ahmed and I want to ask things about online copyright and licensing issues.. I think, today, when internet is used by most of the shias, we have to find the haram and halal about Copyright and Licensing thing. Question: There are websites which offers free things but have restrictions like 1. You are not allowed to make it available for downloading for others 2. Item cannot be resold or shared 3. Cannot copy etc I want to ask that is it mandatory (wajib) for a muslim to obey those rules online and does it apply for torrent downloads (the items which are paid but are available to download for free like games, music albums, books etc.) as well? I follow Ayatollah Sistani r.a.. Thanks, Abrar Ahmed As an example:

(BISMILLAH) (Salam) So, I came across this article recently, in which Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi has some sort of fatwa against faster internet in Iran: http://www.iranhumanrights.org/2014/08/makarem-internet/ Isn't this a bit too extreme? I mean, it's like opposing the invention of printing just because it can be used to create fashion magazines. Now, I understand that, maybe, what he is saying is that the internet, in general, is unlawful until it has been strictly filtered for Haraam content by the religious institutions. Any care to explain what seems to obviously be too "Wahabi" a fatwa coming from this very famous jurist?

Make sure to change all of your passwords (to every website/email/account) to something completely different from before. Each site has to patch the security flaw until its safe to change your password, but what you can do is change it now, and then a few days later again. (wasalam)
