Salam, From my knowlege a lot of Shia Muslim scholars agree that Adam(عليه السلام) was created 15k to 10k years ago , now it is agreed that from that period of time till todays period of time most of human development has taken place , the thing that bugs me tho is that before the time of Adam(عليه السلام) specifically from the 50k time period , humans became very sophisticated in their tool making and art, etc... (when they started having modern human behaviour) which means they were kind of smart and correct me if im wrong but tribes today live the same life as these early humans lived , which if true , why are they more special then older human species that had the same life style as them .All of that confuses me as what was the reason that Adam(عليه السلام) was sent on Earth why were the angels so amazed by Adam(عليه السلام) if earlier humans had kind of his intelligence? Could it be that Adam(عليه السلام) was created 50 thousand years ago ? or is that a strech , if so humans interbreed with neanderthals at that time(don’t know if fact or speculation) which means we did not all decend from Adam(عليه السلام) if he was created 50 thousand years ago , can that be reconciled?

A discussion on reason, consciousness, and free will through the lense of evolution. I am putting this in the atheism section as the discussion is hosted by non believers (though miller of course is catholic).

Salam, I was wondering if you respected brothers and sisters could enlighten me when it comes to answering such claims pertaining to the eye and how atheists use such an argument as a means against intelligent design. And if the Islamic consensus can be provided in regards to certain statements made. The eye began as a simple organ and evolved with time gradually. The eye evolved through an evolutionary means of unguided process. There should be no blind spot in the vertebrate eye if it were intelligently designed. The eye is not wired to meet the highest degree of visual quality. Further reading and the source in which these points were extrapolated from: https://evolutionnews.org/2018/04/is-the-human-eye-really-evidence-against-intelligent-design/

Evolution at this point is a scientific fact. The only discrepancy is the origin of human reasoning. Putting aside this oddity in the application of natural selection leading to the origin of species, how can we neglect that macroevolution of nonhuman species is false?

Many people know this verse. Few however have understand its true meaning. My goal in this post is to offer an understanding of this verse which is compliant with modern scientific understanding. First let's look at the traditional understanding and test its validity. Is everything created in pairs on this planet? The answer is no. Asexual organisms, hermaphrodites, arthenogenetic organisms, schizophyllum commune (which has 26000 different sexes) are all studied topics in biology which contradict this understanding. Then what could it possibly mean? The first hint is the use of the verb "to create". This verse is relating to the creation of the universe. The big bang theory is accepted among scientists and this is where we should look to unravel the true meaning of this verse. In nature there is an element known as heavy hydrogen, also known as deuterium. The deuterium isotope's name is formed from the Greek deuteros meaning "second", to denote the two particles composing the nucleus. It's the most simple "pair" in nature. The nucleus of deuterium, called a deuteron, contains one proton and one neutron. Now this element played a very important role in the creation of this universe and the big bang. The explanation is very complex so I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. Deuterium played a huge role in the first minutes after big bang. It defined the number and ratios of the elements that were formed in the Big Bang. Especially the formation of helium. Helium can only be formed with an in between step of forming deuterium. As you know helium is what fuels stars like our sun and every other star in this universe. As we know every living thing on this planet is composed of elements created in stars. And here we have in Quran a verse stating, "And of everything We have created pairs, that you may remember" Isn't this mind-blowing? Indeed everything "the universe" was created by an element known as a pair "deuterium", which later formed helium, fueled the stars and created life.

*I created this post in thinkers discourse, but its not approved yet so started here instead, mods can move later if they feel like it. First of All, I am no evolutionist in any political sense, but yes i have faith in science and i have faith that all claims of scientists are correct. But now i am really intrigued by reading verses of Quran and I need your guidance and views whether I am interpreting things correctly. 1st, I always thought what is wrong with accepting evolution, it just happens as scientists claims it to be but except Human, who was created, or may be we understand createdness wrong, we were just another better looking ape with much less abilities, and with a magic God gave us "Ashraf Ul Makhlooqat" Level BrAIN. Another view to support above argument is, that in this world only we are intelligent as per our definition of intelligence. There are many brilliant dogs and apes, some of them even learned alphabets, but none of them evolved into an equally or more powerful Mind, which again proof the Words of Quran that we are indeed ASHRAF AL MAKHLOOQAT. Creationist already find it hard to digest the kind of CHANCE Atheist say we are, and then by chance we also have the mind of no other specie (unless Douglas Adams was right in favor of Dolphins) But that is a lesser argument. I read few verses and its looks like Quran itself tells us that we are evolved, though in wiki article, 4 of those verses were put in favour of CREATEDNESS of MAN, & 1 was listed as in favour of Evolution. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_views_on_evolution#The_creation_of_man_in_the_Quran 1) "It is He who has created you out of clay" (Surah 6:2), 2) "It was He who brought you into being from the earth..." (11:61), 3) "We first created you from dust, then from a sperm drop, then from clotted blood, then a lump of flesh, both shaped and unshaped, so that We might manifest to you [Our power]" (22:5), 4) "He originated the creation of man from clay, then He made his progeny from an extract of a humble fluid" (32:7-8) 5) "...and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?"(21:30) Now Guys here my understanding If i didn't understood english wrong here, RED are Supporting Human Createdness and GREEN supports Human was evolved. Now verse 4 clearly indicate GOD first created us from CLAY, then men developed their generations with we know how Also verse 3 indicates > Clay + Process of Pregnancy We all know how pregnancy works and its indicated in Quran. But why don't we consider CLAY as evolution??? I mean it was Big Bang > A Perfect Earth > Cooled Down to Water + Life + Single Cell Organisms from water and Sand or whatever. It needed water but founding constituent of cell could have been clay or sand or anything > eventually multi cells >>>>> Perfect specie of animals and humans with minds and beautiful auto focusing eyes etc So Whats the hurdle here???? I know one hurdle, in one of the verse God says [ Allah ] said, "O Iblees, what prevented you from prostrating to that which I created with My hands? Were you arrogant [then], or were you [already] among the haughty?" 38:75 This verse indicates that God indeed made humans with hands But Evolution is 19th century issue Gods Beatific vision is 11th century issue Mutazilla didn't believed in Gods beatific vision, asharies did Sunni Sufi also have all kinds of views Wahabi probably believe in Beatific vision while if i am not wrong Shias donot believe as such So if God has no hand, then obviously that whole thing is an allegory. In that sense Quran indicated 1400 years ago how Living things were made from clay, which evolution explained much later. What i am missing here, where is my reasoning wrong????

Salam Alaikum, Ive been a silent observer here for a few years now. This is a great website for people from all walks of life to discuss matters of mutual interest. I am starting this post in hopes of sharing my experiences with my fellow members here and to get their view about my debacle. I got married to girl from Shiamatch and now I am regretting it because she turned out to be a very different person than how it seemed on the match making website. Im not going to give her name as this post in just so I understand what I might be able to do differently to make things better. However I suggest thorough investigations into the person (and his or her past) who you only know from a website. The sad part is that she is not a bad person at all. We're just not a good match. Has anyone else here gone through something like this ?

http://darwins-god.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/top-chemist-they-just-stare-at-me.html Yesterday James Tour, who in 2009 was ranked one of the top 10 chemists in the world, explained that evolutionists do not understand how evolution could have created life. What’s worse, Tour explains that there is a lack of clarity about this scientific fact. In public, evolutionists insist evolution is a fact beyond all reasonable doubt. But in private, they admit there is no such scientific knowledge: “Let me tell you what goes on in the back rooms of science—with National Academy members, with Nobel Prize winners,” Tour stated. “I have sat with them, and when I get them alone, not in public—because it’s a scary thing, if you say what I just said—I say, ‘Do you understand all of this, where all of this came from, and how this happens?’” The answer he inevitably receives, Tour explained, is: “no.” “Every time that I have sat with people who are synthetic chemists, who understand this, they go, ‘Uh-uh. Nope.’” Tour said. “And if they’re afraid to say ‘yes,’ they say nothing. They just stare at me, because they can’t sincerely do it.”

Hello! I'm new posting and the reason why I have become part of this community is because there are some questions in life that I have that I cannot ask others in my family (either because they'll call me crazy or not understand me, not because of any shameful reasons). Anyway, the point of my post is to ask what your thoughts on Evolution are. Please, if you are not informed on what evolution really means then try to refrain from merely giving negative comments. In my opinion, the evidence on evolution is overwhelming, to the extent that if it is not real then it must be to some extent true. I am a true believer in Allah, but I'm not a native speaker of Arabic and find it difficult to read the Qur'an. I have it in my list of top things to learn, no need to comment on this. With the knowledge I do have however I find no clash whatsoever in the writings of our holy book and evolution... unless we were to take everything literally. So what do you think? Some people call it a sin to find evolution feasible and call me names for appreciating the beauty of the mechanism. On the other hand, it just strengthens my believe in Allah that he could have possibly created us so perfectly and simply.

Interesting idea occurred to me yesterday. I'm someone who has always been of the point of view that the whole controversy over evolution is way overblown, and that evolution actually fits in very nicely with a Theistic creation point of view, as long as you look at it from the right philosophical perspective. (To simplify, God is the creator and agent of change, and evolution is the history, the details of that change.) One interesting field that comes out of evolution is evolutionary psychology. It looks at how certain psychological aspects of our behavior are linked to the history of the development of the human lifeform through evolution, particularly as adaptations to evolutionary challenges we faced over time. One of the powerful ideas is that certain psychological tendencies that are harmful today (like gluttony, the tendency to just overeat if we are provided with bounty, the tendency to distrust strangers or people outside our family or tribe, our tendency toward violence, our tendencies to be carried away by lust) are there within us because in earlier, more animalistic stages in the process leading to the modern human form, these traits helped our ancestors to survive. Those tendencies come from our lower brain areas. The more recent adaptation, the higher brain, the cerebral cortex, is sort of fighting a battle to control these lower brain elements. But there's always a struggle, because this rational brain that is needed for us to adapt to modern demands is always challenged by the animal brain pulling us towards animal urges. Meanwhile in Islam, there is the talk of different types of souls, and of the mysterious Shaytaan that serves as some voice pulling us toward an animalistic path. I wonder if what was called in the pre-science days 1400 years ago, the "Shaytaan" is actually this lower, older brain? If so, could this serve as a validation of evolutionary ideas within Islam? Discuss.

(bismillah) Salam aleikum all, I have a question I have been meaning to ask for quite some time, it is the question on where Islam (in particular Shi'ite Islam) stands on the topic of evolution. What I have perceived is that the theory on animal evolution is generally supported, and that human evolution is limited to brain/motor development and personal growth over the thousands of years and therewith the notion that all humans are related, for they all stem from Prophet Adem (a.s.). For this notion was also proposed by Charles Darwin, who himself was a theologian, he suggested that we all come from a common source, this could also refer to the fact that all organisms on earth are made out of 'earth' by Allah swt and that non can be produced from 'scratch' by the creations themselves. As a revert I have been looking for the logical aspects of Islam explaining the theory of evolution, for I saw (also before I reverted) that this seemed unlikely to have happened. I was definitely sure when I started looking into the mere anatomy and complex functioning of the brain, which is claimed to have 'evolved' to how is now. However I would like to know whether someone here might be able to answer the question on whether there might be a verse in the Qu'ran or an interpretation thereof which describes this phenomenon? (salam)

Salam, i was just wondering if we muslims believe in evolution or not? ive read some previous topics on the matter and some of our brothers seem to accept evolution even though it seems to go against islam. i mean are we going to throw away all our understandings of the creaion of Nabi Adam(as) and what islamic scholars and regular muslims have believed for the past 1400 hundred years and turn into appologists just to accomodate this theory? thanks
