  1. Salmon Alaykum, I am looking for seminal books on marriage, divorce and child raring in Shia Islam. Recommendations would be highly appreciated. I am also looking for advice in regard to the purchase of Shia books online or offline anywhere in the United Kingdom. Is there a platform like Kindle and Amazon for Shia books? If not is there a place that has a comprehensive selection from which people can purchase books, books like الزواج في القران و السنة للشهيد السيد عز الدين بحر العلوم Thank you in advance for your answers.

  5. In the name of god the most merciful I feel like todays muslims are not reading enough books and that has some negative consequences, and for those muslims who wish to read books about their religion they will have a difficult time finding them. When I accepted islam I had a hard time finding good books about islam that are available in normal shops. Of course most books are available online-pdf but It is a lot easier to read them physically and then for example give them to a friend so more people can benefit from the knowledge. My goal with this is to make a list of books about islam that are easily available in non muslim shops for example amazon, ebay,. Etc. So that those muslims that do not have the opportunity to buy from muslim shops can buy these instead. Most of the books are written by shia authors but some by sunnis and sufis. Many new muslims have a very hard time finding good books so I hope this list will help. I have not read all of these books. This list is in no way complete I have written what I know and I hope that other people can help by posting their recommendations and their opinions on the books. 1. Quran Translations: Most translations are from our sunni brothers and those usually only have minor differences with the shia school of thought so there is no problem in buying them. Good Sunni quran translations: Abdullah yusuf ali- Written in old english, otherwise a very good translation, some minor errors. Also the commentaries have been changed so I only recommend the translation. MAS abdul haleem- It is written in simpler english, it has some minor errors otherwise it is very good and easy to read Good shia translations: Muhammed habib shakir(M.H Shakir) – Some say he has copied parts of the translation but there is no copyright in islam so that is not important. the translation is in relatively simple english and it is seen as the best translation from the shia. Ali Quli Qarai- Also a very good translation, Ali Qarai has translated many books into english, the quran translation is written in simple english and is easy to read. Other translations: Arthur Arberry- made a very good translation, he was very good at translating the same word in arabic into the same word in English. However the book is written in older english(thee, thy ..) so it can be difficult to read if you have English as a second language. tafsir(commentary): The Study Quran- It was made by many people one of them being Seyyed hosein nasr a Shia-sufi. The book contains a extremely good and accurate translation but also commentary. The commentary is written by different people and it contains commentaries from shias sunnis and sufis. It is a great book if you want to learn more about the quran and also learn about other Muslims opinions from different perspectives. Understanding surah yasin- written by sheikh. Bahmanpour and it is a commentay on surah yasin. The illuminating lantern, A commentary on the 30th part of the holy quran, by habib al kadhimi- 2.Biographies of the Last Prophet(peace be upon him and his family): The message by jafar subhani – considered to be one of the best biographies of the prophet((صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)) by a modern shia scholar that is available in english. Muhammed man of god by seyyed nasr – a simple biography of the prophet, It is very short and basic Muhammed by yasin T. al jibouri – also a biography of the prophet 3.Books about other prophets( peace be upon them): Gods emissaries by rizwan arastu- It is a very detailed book about the lives of the prophets. The base for the book was the quran and then he has used hadith to give more details. I think it is one of the most popular and well written book about the prophets by a shia scholar. Mary and jesus in islam by yasin jibouri- The lost testament by mahdi moderassi- a critisiscm of christianity 4.Books about islamic sects: When power and piety collide by mostafa qazwini- a critisicm of caliphate and he wrote it in response to the hate that is against the shias today. Islam by seyyed hosein nasr- A introductin to islam and different schools of thought. Succesion of the prophet by wilferd madelung- A study of islamic caliphate 5.Books about mystisicm: Kernel of the kernel by muhammed husayn tabatabaei- A compilation of his lectures he gave on mysticism and spiritual wayfaring, It is relatively expensive and I have not read it but I have heard a lot of good things about it. Light within me by M.H tabatabaei, M. muttahari, R.Khomeini- a very good book Secrets to divine love by A. Helwa- I think she is a sunni but the book is not controversial and it Is good. 6.Books about tawhid: Allah by yasin jibouri- contains the names and attributes of god. Essential tawhid by sayyid abul qasim radhawi Blessed names and attributes of allah by Abdur rahman kidwai- Is one of the most popular books about tawhid among sunnis. Daily wisdom: selections from the holy quran by Kube publishing- short selections from the quran 7.Books about The twelve imams and ahlulbayt( peace be upon them) : Kerbala and beyond by yasin jibouri imam ali ibn musa by yasin jibouri- biography of the 8:th imam Who Is hussain by mehdi saeed hazari- from medina to karbala in the words of imam husayn the hidden treasure, lady umm kulthum, daughter of imam ali and lady fatima by jaffer ladak- bioghraphy of lady umm kulthum. 8.Books about being muslim in the west: advice for youth by sistani- muslim in west by Seyyed hosein nasr- a very good book about how muslims should see the west Shia muslims: our identity, our vision, and the way forward by sayyid M. B. kashmiri - 9.Books by christians that are suitable for muslims: Gods undertaker by Professor John lennox- the book talks about mathematical problems with evolution and also why monotheism is more suitable with science compared to other views. It is a highly recommended book for anyone wanting to learn more about how ridiculous atheism is and the lies spread by the new-atheist movement. A lot of books have been written by disccovery institute, They are christian that support intelligent design which is not completely compatible with islam but their books contain very good criticism of darwinism. 10.Other books: 101 ways to concentrate in prayer by Ali hilli- a book about how to achieve higher concentration in prayer. Talal alie turfe has written some good books Muneer al khabbazz has also written some good books. Practical advice by abathar tajaldeen The doctor and sheikh debate- I have not read it and I could not find it in pdf format but it seems interesting. Also if you buy a good book do not keep it on you bookshelf instead give it away to a friend and tell Him/Her to give it away after reading it. If you like comment you thoughts about these books and give your recommendations on good books about islam that can be bought in non-muslim shops. I know that this was a very short list but I hope you will benefit from it.
  6. Assalam o alikum everyone. Hope everyone is fine here. In 2019, there was a post here about getting free books from Imam Reza (عليه السلام) 's shrine. Is that service still available?
  7. I am reading this book and I want to have discussion related to topics that are discussed in this book?
  8. I’m a sunni Muslim and lately I have a lot of questions over the differentiation between Sunni and shias. I want to know more about the way of the Shia Muslims. And what books may I possibly find online/buy to read and understand better if I’m thinking of converting. I’m not 100% sure yet. And i have nothing against either of the sects. I Just want reliable sources to know better. And I’d appreciate all sorts of help. I also do not know how converting from Sunni to Shia works but I’d love to know. thank you.
  9. Sallam Alikum, I have an America friend who would like to read more about Islam, and she wants me to recommend her books. The books I am reading right now, are a bit more complicated and go deeper into Islam, but I want to give her easier books to understand Islam. I do also wish they're more Shia based books. Which books to you all recommend I tell her about? Thank you so much.
  10. Salam Alaykum everyone inshaAllah you are all well. It's been a while that I'm looking for a good Islamic reading list, which covers various topics (basic introduction, theology, laws, history, spirituality and philosophy, family, women, etc.) and is practically readable and usable for an English speaking person (doesn't matter, a Muslim seeking more information about Islam, or a non-Muslim wishing to know, or a revert etc.) so my request is two: 1- if you are aware of any Islamic reading list, can you please share it here? 2-what book about Islam have you personally read or even just browsed and found it fitting in such a list? feel free to add the name of any book you read about Islam and you liked. that is very precious to me and my list. inshaAllah together we can come up with a good and practical reading list. WSalam
  11. Salaam alaykum brothers and sisters, Forgive me in advance if I've posted this in the wrong section, but I need help please: I need a copy of Nahj Al-balagha urgently. I have searched online and all I can find are Sunni based bookshops, and the one Shia site I've found, is sold out. If anyone possibly has a spare one, I am more than willing to pay you for it plus postage (I'm in Melbourne, Aus) Other than that particular book, I'm in need of a proper translated Qur'an (in english)... when I mean proper, I mean one that does not have too many typos (unfortunately the one I have just has too many typos and it makes it difficult to understand) I also need some books relating to Shia/Islam in general, such as the lives of our Prophets etc... If anyone knows of a shop, either in Melbourne or Sydney, or an online store, please let me know asap. I will be forever grateful. Thank you in advance. Any help will be appreciated.
  12. Hello guys, I have been a Sunni Muslim all my life (27 years) and have converted to Shia Muslim and currently looking for detailed books on 1) History of Islam (Where the split started and all the subsequent events in full detail - specifically from Shia Perspective as that's what I want to know more about) 2) Religious Practises of Shia Islam (Majalis and beliefs that are different from Sunni Islam) 3) Knowledge of Shia Islam (details about Imams and important dates and their importance) I will appreciate it if one of you brothers can help me in this journey. Thanks
  13. I thought it would be useful to share any online libraries of free literature and books, ideally Shia specific, as some material can be hard to find. The link below has 19 titles, some of which are excellent reads, all free to download PDF versions: http://alfeker.net/library.php?catid=53 This online library also contains a plethora of Arabic books and books in several other languages. Persian: http://alfeker.net/library.php?catid=74 Other languages: http://alfeker.net/library.php?catid=62 More English titles: http://shiabooks.net/library.php?catid=53 Please also share your resources for the benefit of all.
  14. According to some people, a certain historical figure made money off hadith telling and was caught out. Today it is common practice to find several different interpretations and editions of the Qur'an and books on hadith for sale in thousands of Islamic shops around the world. It is also common that Muslims, like Catholics, or most religious communities for that matter love religious trinkets and these trinkets become the evidence of religious inclinations of a homeowner. I first of all wonder this: would it be a viable option if religious books were never a commodity, would it be a positive or negative to have so much information free of use, would it have similar impacts to the internet for example? Also, when did it become practice to sell Qur'ans and hadith books and why? Finally, when did it become a practice to sell Islamic trinkets and why? Was it Christian influence or do religious communities by default begin to trade their religious goods, is it inevitable even without influence that this becomes common practice?
  15. Alsalam wa'alaikum everyone. The reasoning for opening this topic is not to discuss the right or wrong of being LGBT, but rather to understand any Islamic ruling that may apply to reading a fictional book featuring a lgbt couple. I recently started reading a book, and about half way through I realized that the book features an lgbt couple. Is it haram of me to continue reading? I would assume that because its just a book it would be okay, however I would rather be safe than sorry. Also, what about a movie featuring an lgbt couple? In addition, since we are on the topic of lgbt, two of my friends who are also Shia Muslim have recently come out to me as members of the lgbt community. Is it wrong of me to want to support them? They are good friends of mine, and I want to know the best way of handling this situation without it becoming haram.
  16. Salam everyone, Now that I started university I have lots of time in between the classes and the way from Uni to home(vice versa). I get bored too easily and my phone isn't really a distraction. So I remembered when I was in high school I loved reading books, even though I didn't read much. So I decided to go back to reading. And because I speak multiple languages, I thought it would be best to read in all those languages not only one. If you have any recommendations please share, because it's hard for me to find a decent book. (Fiction, romans, historical, Non fiction) French, Dutch, English, Arabic ps: not Ulysses type of books lol
  17. Sallam, Peace and blessings on all. I will keep inquiry short as I am actually looking for some way to have the valuable books that I have be translated and published in Urdu. The books include the works of, Ibn Sina, Al-Biruni, Mulla Sadra, Farabi and Allama Nawabakhti. So, if anyone have any information regarding how this can be done please do share your valuable thoughts. JazakAllah
  18. I would like a recommendation for books, outside of the Noble Qur'an, for a non muslim that is considering Islam and becoming a shia in particular. I am particularly looking for good books on Prayer, SHia Spirituality, Lifestyle, and Theology. Is there a good english translation of shia hadith in a hardbound set?

InshAllah you will all benefit by these sources: Intercession in The Holy Quran: "No intercessor can plead with Him except after His permission."-Qur'an 10:3 Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His permission?-Quran 2:255 On that Day, no intercession shall avail, except the one from whom Allah the Most Gracious has given permission and whose word is acceptable to Him-Qur'an 20:109 And they cannot intercede, except for him with whom He is pleased-Qur'an 21:28 None shall have the power of intercession except such a one as has received permission or a promise from Allah the Most Gracious.-Qur'an 19:87 Intercession with Him profits not except for he whom He permits-Qur'an 34:23 We sent no messenger but to be obeyed by the leave of Allah. If they who have been unjust to themselves had come to you (Prophet Muhammad) and begged Allah's forgiveness, and the Messenger had begged forgiveness for them - indeed, they would have found Allah All-Forgiving, Most Merciful-Qur'an 4:64 (The brothers of Yusuf) said, 'O our father! Ask forgiveness from Allah for our sins. Indeed, we have been sinners.' He said, 'I will ask my Lord for forgiveness for you. Verily, He, only He, is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful-Qur'an 12:97-98 Intercession of Prophet Mohammad (Sawa) In this Hadith the Prophet(saws) intercedes for this blind man: A blind man came to the Prophet and said: "Invoke Allah for me that he help me." He replied: If you wish I will delay this, and it would be better for you, and if you wish I will invoke Allah the Exalted (for you)." He said:"Then invoke him." The Prophet said to him: idhhab fa tawadda', wa salli rak`atayn thumma qul -- "Go and make an ablution, pray two rak`at, then say: "O Allah, I am asking you (as'aluka) and turning to you (atawajjahu ilayka) with your Prophet Muhammad (bi nabiyyika Muhammad), the Prophet of mercy; O Muhammad (ya Muhammad), I am turning with you to my Lord regarding my present need / I am asking my Lord with your intercession concerning the return of my sight (inni atawajjahu bika ila rabbi fi hajati hadhih -- another version has: inni astashfi`u bika `ala rabbi fi raddi basari) so that He will fulfill my need; O Allah, allow him to intercede (with you) for me (allahumma shaffi`hu fiyya)." I turn to you by your Prophet, the Prophet of Mercy (Allahumma, inni atawajjahu ilayka bi nabiyyika nabi al-rahma...)." Then it says: "O Muhammad! I turn to Allah by you to solve my difficulties." Ibn Majah; al-Nisa'i; Tirmidhi; al-Husn al-Hasin, ibn al-Juzri Umar Invoking Intercession: Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 17, Number 123: Narrated Anas: Whenever drought threatened them, ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab, used to ask Al-Abbas bin ‘Abdul Muttalib to invoke Allah for rain. He used to say, “O Allah ! We used to ask our Prophet to invoke You for rain, and You would bless us with rain, and now we ask his uncle to invoke You for rain. O Allah ! Bless us with rain.” And so it would rain. Intercession Done by The Son of Umar: It is narrated that the feet of 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar al-Khattab became disabled and would no longer carry him. After being told to call upon the closest people to his heart, he said: "Wa Muhammada!" His feet were cured and worked properly again. Shifa' al-Asqam, al-Samhudi Intercession of Sahabi Umar Ibn Ibrahim Al-Khatib narrates in Tarikh Baghdad that the truthful (saduq) qadi al-Husayn ibn `Ali al-Saymari narrated to them, that the trustworthy (thiqa) Imam `Umar ibn Ibrahim [ibn Ahmad] al-Muqri told him, that the trustworthy Shaykh Makram ibn Ahmad told them, that `Umar ibn Ishaq ibn Ibrahim [status?] told them, that the trustworthy Shaykh `Ali ibn Maymun told them: ‘I heard al-Shafi`i say: “I swear I seek the blessing of Abu Hanifa (inni la’atabarraku bi-Abi Hanifa) and come to his grave every day"’ meaning as a visitor. “Whenever I have a certain need I pray two rak`as then I come to his grave and ask Allah Most High for my need at his grave, and little time passes until it is fulfilled.” Narrated by al-Khatib in Tarikh Baghdad (1:123)cf. al-Kawthari in his Maqalat (p. 453) and by Ibn Abi al-Wafa’ in Tabaqat al-Hanafiyya (p. 519) through al-Ghaznawi. Imam al-Haytami cites it in the thirty-fifth chapter of his book on Imam Abu Hanifa entitled al-Khayrat al- Hisan. Fatwas on the Permissibility of Intercession By Ahlus-Sunnah Scholars: All jurists including Imami, Shafi'i, Maliki, and later-day Hanafi scholars as well as others such as the Hanbalis, are unanimous on the permissibility of this way of supplication, whether it was in the lifetime of the Prophet (s), or whether it is after his passing away. 1. Fath al-Qadir, vol. 8, p. 297, 298 6. al-Futuhat al-Rabbaniyyah 'ala al-Azkar al-Nabawiyyah, vol. 5, p. 36 Imam Malik urged an Abbaside Khalifa to seek the tawassal of Rasulullah (s) The Abbasid caliph, Mansur al-Dawaniqi, once asked Imam Malik ibn Anas whether he should turn towards the grave of the Prophet (s) or face the Qiblah for supplication? Malik answered him: Why do you want to turn away from the Prophet (s) when he (Prophet Muhammad (s)) is the wasilah (means) for you and for your father Adam, towards Allah on the Day of Resurrection. Turn to him (the Prophet) and seek his intercession (shafa'at). -Al-Mughni ma' al-Sharh, vol. 3, p. 588; -al-Sharh al-Kabir ma' al-Mughni, vol. 3, p. 494; -al-Qadi `Iyad in al-Shifa (2:92-93) Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal advocated making tawassal through Rasulullah (s) The correct position of the [Hanbali] madhhab is that it is permissible in one's supplication (du`a) to use as means a pious person, and it is said that it is desirable (mustahabb). Imam Ahmad said to Abu Bakr al-Marwazi:yatawassalu bi al-nabi fi du`a'ih -- "Let him use the Prophet as a means in his supplication to Allah -al-Insaf fi ma`rifat al-rajih min al-khilaf `ala madhhab al-Imam al-mubajjal Ahmad ibn Hanbal (3:456): Imam Shaafi would make tawassal through the Ahlul bayt (as) - Ibn Hajr Haytami - al-Sawa`iq al-muhriqa li ahl al-dalal wa al-zandaqa (eg page 180) and al-Khayrat al-hisan (p. 69) Imam Shafi`i made tawassul through the Family of the Prophet (Ahl al-Bayt) when he said Al al-nabi dhari`ati wa hum ilayhi wasilati arju bihim u`ta ghadan bi yadi al-yamini sahifati The Family of the Prophet are my means and my intermediary to him. Through them I hope to be given my record with the right hand tomorrow. -Ibn Hajr Haytami, in Al-Sawa`iq al-muhriqa li ahl al-dalal wa al-zandaqa (eg page 180) -al-Khayrat al-hisan (p. 69) This has also been found in Diwan al-Shafi`i as edited by `Umar Faruq al-Dabbagh (Beirut: Dar al-arqam, n.d.) p. 50. The pilgrim should face the shrine of the Messenger of Allah (s), make him a means (tawassul) towards reaching God and seek his wasilah as intercession (shafa'at), in the same manner as the Bedouin who visited the Prophet's shrine and standing beside it said: Peace unto you O Messenger of Allah, I have heard Allah has said: ...Had they, when they had wronged themselves, come to you and asked Allah's forgiveness and the Apostle had asked forgiveness for them, they would certainly have found Allah Most-Propitious, Most-Merciful. (Holy Qur'an 4: 64). Therefore, I have come to you for forgiveness of my sins and seeking your intercession with Allah. -Al-Majmu', vol. 8, p. 274; -Fayd al-Qadir, vol. 2, p. 134; -I'anah al-Talibiyyin, p. 315. Ibn Qudamah Hanbalis tawassal supplication before the tomb of Rasulullah (s):- Ibn Qudamah Hanbali, defining the manner of pilgrimage to the shrine of the Prophet (s), writes in the book al-Mughni Stand beside the tomb of the Prophet (s), and say: I have come to you for forgiveness of my sins and to seek your intercession with Allah. 1. Al-Mughni ma' al-Sharh, vol. 3, p. 588; 2. al-Sharh al-Kabir ma' al-Mughni, vol. 3, p. 494 Imam Ghazzali al Shaafiis tawassal supplication before the tombs of Rasulullah (s) and Ahlul bayt (as) Imam of Ahlul Sunnah Abdul Hamid Ghazzali allotted a special section in his book Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din concerning the manners of pilgrimage to the shrine of the Prophet (s) in order to repent and seek forgiveness from Allah. He stated: The Prophet should be made the means (wasilah) and the intercessor (shafi'), and with face turned towards the tomb, the pilgrim should implore Allah for the sake and position of the Prophet with the words: "O Allah, indeed You have said, Had they, who had wronged themselves, come to you and asked Allah's forgiveness and the Apostle had asked forgiveness for them, they would have certainly found Allah Most-Propitious, Most-Merciful (Holy Qur'an 4:64); Al-Ghazzali also added: It is recommended the pilgrim should go daily to the Baqi' Cemetery and after saluting the Prophet (s), make pilgrimage to the tombs of (Imam) Hasan ibn 'Ali, (Imam) 'Ali ibn al-Husayn, (Imam) Muhammad ibn 'Ali and (Imam) Ja'far ibn Muhammad (Allah be pleased with them), and also perform the Salat in the Mosque of Fatimah (Allah be pleased with her). -Ihya' 'Ulum al-Din, vol. 1, pp. 258-261
