I know its a shia chat forum, but have seen many syeds related threads here. What is your take on people claiming they are Naqvi/Bokhari Syeds with immediate grandfathers migrated from Iran (places close by). I am not able to find any sources that link them to Iran apart from that a lot naqvi syeds still reside in Iran. Also in Pakistan Naqvi and Bokhari syeds are both the same, is that true? Also if bokhari syeds were from Bokhara how come they claim their grandfathers were from Iran?

Hi all, I am not sure if this is the right place for this or if I should even be doing this but here goes. Quick back story- I come from a Syed family who like to think they are respectable but their actions prove otherwise. My mum and dad have been married forever and my dad abused my mum physically, mentally and emotionally for around 26 years until me and my sisters decided we had had enough. Growing up in an abusive household was horrendous and the trauma will stay with us forever. This is very common in our family and majority of the couples we know are unhappy with their husbands and lives. We now live separately to my dad and Alhamdulillah, life has been much better. We have always been told to marry Syed’s and never to look elsewhere but I have never agreed with this nor understood why this has to be the case. Shouldn’t it be everyone’s personal preference? I do not agree with imposing your personal views and interpretations upon someone else, especially if the consequences will not affect you in any way. So because of the trauma, I have naturally been very anti marriage and never thought I would have kids, ever. I downloaded some Muslim dating apps to see if there were any decent men out there but I had no luck. I couldn’t even find someone I got along with, never mind someone who is Syed and Shia etc. My mum keeps saying there are loads of good decent Syed men out there, not saying this isn’t true, but I have yet to meet one. I am a big believer in people coming into your life for a reason. Recently I have become closer to my deen and I have been trying to keep my intentions pure and I just genuinely want to be better for the sake of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى). Cut to- I have been talking to a Non Syed guy, I know I shouldn’t have carried on after finding out he was Non Syed, but when I tell you the connection was instant. I felt in my heart, almost straight away, that this man will be my husband and the father of my kids. He is everything I have ever prayed for, wanted and more. He has already made me a better person, and has brought be closer to my deen. I genuinely feel like I don’t deserve him and I never thought someone so perfect for me existed. I can now imagine a happy future with him.. I can see us with kids and it makes my heart so full for the first time in forever. He prayed so much during Ramadan and asked Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) for a sign and had a beautiful dream of us that night. My mum said she would disown me and tell everyone I am dead to her if I go through with this. And she said she would never eventually come around like some families do and will hold on to the hate forever. She said I will make the rest of her life miserable as the family will blame her for this because she left my dad which is a disgusting mentality. I feel so incredibly torn. I have to either sacrifice my family for my future or my future for my family.. and either my mum will never forgive me or I’ll never forgive her. It’s such an awful situation and I feel so helpless and empty. Any advice in this scenario is appreciated. I know upsetting my mum is so wrong but I truly believe Allah sent him to me. I just feel like this is not a good enough reason to justify disowning someone. It seems so extreme and unnecessary, but I guess that’s what happens when you prioritise culture over religion. Assalamalaikum, I am a South Asian "Syed" male(I put Syed in quotes because I am not sure of whether or not I am truly a Syed, many say real Syeds will have family trees or shajrah but they can also be easily faked). Is it actually forbidden for Sayyids to marry non Sayyids? Is there any hadith? My parents say that apparently on the day of judgement Bibi Fatima(sa) will questions Sayyids who marry non Sayyids and get some form of adhab. I will respect my parents wishes and marry a fellow Syed; however, I strongly disagree with them on this reasoning and I want to correct them on this matter. Are there any actual hadith that actually explicitly prohibit Sayyids from marrying non Sayyids? I imagine this hadith would refer more to Shias marrying Muslims of other sects and non Muslims. Also anything scholars have to say about Sayyid-non Sayyid marriage(forbidding or allowing)? I do not think there is anything wrong with Sayyids marrying Sayyids or non Sayyids, however, I disagree with the reasoning that Bibi Fatima(sa) will be disappointed with Sayyids who do marry non Sayyids. Also this hadith, Sort of off topic but is there an actual way to determine whether or not you are a Sayyid? I remember seeing a Hashemite gene testing thing where it checks if you have the Hashemite gene, you are really a Sayyid. I also imagine that a real Sayyid South Asian should have some Arabian if they did a DNA test.

Salam guys, Can someone enlighten me on the caste system? I'm a Syed, Shia girl and want to marry a non syed Shia whos practicing his faith. Unfortunatly I come from the Indo/Pak region and my family is highly respected! If I marry this guy, I will bring shame to the family, and they'll probably kill me for the sake of family honour. I have had this conversation with my father, and he says that, Imam Ali(a.s) was a Syed but his kids from his other wives(aka Hazrat Abbas a.s) were not Syed. So I cant say that Imam Ali a.s got his other daughters married to non syeds. Is their any hadiths and any verses of the Qur'an that clearly state, this is halal?

*Repost with accurate title* Salaam, hope everyone is doing well. I just had a quick question regarding the color green in Shia Islam. My uncle has recently come back from a trip to Iraq and he brought me a green scarf which is predominantly worn by Syed's. I will try to attach a picture of a similar scarf to what he brought me below. A different aunt of mine said she has never heard of Syed's wearing such a scarf. Furthermore, someone told me that only descendants of Imam Hassan (AS) wear the green scarf, and descendants of Imam Hussain (AS) wear just plain black. If it is necessary to know: I'm a Syeda, and my parents are from Pakistan. We are from the Rizvi line. There is just a lot of confusion about this scarf around me, and I will appreciate it if someone could please shed some light on this matter. Please do leave some feedback. Thank you! Salaam I’m an 18 year old Shi’a Syeda and am looking to get married soon as Islam has encouraged the virtues of marriage and the Ahlul Bayt have emphasised the blessings of marriage especially that at a young age. But I’m a disabled person in a wheelchair and I often wonder if anyone would want to marry a girl like me. Whether I would add anything of value to my husband’s life. Salam aleikum! This will be my first post here, so apologies if I post this in wrong place or something. Im still learning how to use this amazing forum So I have a question. I am non-sayed woman and I am married to sayed man alhamdulillah. According to what I have understood is that sayeds cannot receive sadaqa but poor and needy sayeds can have their share from khums (sahme sadat). As for me, sayed's non-sayed wife, can I also for example eat from that money if there would me time that my husband needed part from khums? Also I have more questions. In my situation, as i am non-syed woman married to Syed man, do I need to pay khums? If I do need to pay it, can I pay it direct to my husband (if he would be poor and needy)? Since my husband as syed cant receive sadaqa, can I still receive sadaqa (for example if there was time when we would be poor and needy)? Or am I also now prohibited to receive sadaqa since my husband in this case would receive sahme sadat? JazakAllah khair for your answers

Guys I want to know syed meaning ever since yesterday I’m confused kay hazrat Ali wasn’t Syed.. and syed is only bibi syeda because she is Rasool Allah daughter..however only rasool aulad is syed..

I am Syed Abbas Ali and belongs to the family of Imam Jafar Sadiq. Basically My grand father had lost a major portion of our shajrah while migrating to Pakistan, and only a part containing 10 generations before me is left with him. None of his children (my uncles and my father) tried to complete it and he died when I was 2. My Far related grandfather (3rd Cousin to my grandfather) told me that My grandfather did tried to get the whole Shajrah back but was failed in this attempt as those of our relative in India and Lahore refused to provide us with that in fear of some sort of Property. Actually he is the one who told me that we belonged to Syed Qutb descendants who was descendant of Imam Jafar Saddiq and came from Iran or Afghanistan. My grandfather used to live in Jabalpur before seperation and his ancestors in Meeranpur, Jansath Tehsil, India. I tried to look back those Syeds in Meeranpur but found that They were Zaidis. Now I am totally Confused. I looked at a complete shajrah of Zaidis but couldn't find my ancestors name in it so we definitely belong to Jafris. Assalaam-u-alaikum, My name is Syed Abbas Ali and my shajrah goes back to Miranpur, Jansath Tehsil. Actually my grandfather had its full version when in India but due to migration and frequent attacks of sikhs and hindus while migrating he lost a major portion of it and now only a part of 11 generations before me is left. He then went back to jansath with whom our shajrah matched but as they were landlords they refused him to give it ( he had no intention for aquiring any land ). Now I want a complete version. If plz any brother can help me I would be grateful.

Can a syed girl marry a man who has converted to Shia from being a Hindu??

Salaam Everyone, I am a university student. I find myself in a situation with things conflicting and causing mental stress and troubles. I decided I should reach out to a religious community as it may help to shed some light on my situation. During my time at university, I joined and started participating in a student run association which holds duas such as dua tawassul and dua kumayl. After going to these events (which are held in classrooms at the university), I had a chance to socialize with the people present. Personally, as I have only lived in one country my whole life, I have not had many Shia friends at my place of education and so this was a very exciting opportunity for me. I thus met dozens of Shia people through this, added them on Facebook in order to communicate and became good friends with a few. One of these was a girl also studying in my program (a lower year). Initially, we discussed class and I helped her with her classes because she was a sister in need of help. I also thought of her as an amazing individual with very strong aqeedah and matching principles with mine. I felt as if it was someone I was meant to meet, to help and talk to. Eventually, through purely platonic chatter, this attraction strengthened as I found out more and more about what an amazing person she is. In fact, her influence inspired me to be a better person. As unfortunate as it is (may Allah forgive me) but previously I did not pray as nearly as much as I wished to (although I did whenever I could and attended majalis, etc often). After meeting her I now pray 5 times a day and sometimes extra whenever time allows. She has truly changed me for the better in this manner and I still feel she is an amazing individual. I also feel that she feels the same way about myself. We have not discussed anything in depth but there have been times where it has been obvious we both believe each other to be ideal for ourselves. Of course, too much interaction of this sort is considered haram and should not be done. Hence, we have tried to limit it (one of the conversations we had). However, this is not the major issue. I personally sincerely see a future for myself with her and think she is absolutely perfect in this sense. The problem is the following. She is of Khoja descent and her family is from Africa (obviously with an Indian background). My family is of Indian background with a Syed lineage. Time and time again my parents have mentioned when looking for individuals for my older siblings that an Indian Syed family is important to them. Obviously, this individual is not Syed and hence would not qualify for this one limitation. She is educated, religious, etc. But because of this one criteria, I do not think my parents would be very open to the idea. Personally, I never want to upset my parents and could not ever do anything without their permission and well wishes. I have not even mentioned anything about this girl to them and do not know what to do at this point. I decided I should contact an alim in order to see if they could give me some further insight on this issue. Thank you so much for reading this, JazakAllah. If I have said anything that may seem incredibly wrong, I apologize. I would also like to know what your thoughts are on the rulings of Syed's marrying Syed's. Why or why not is this crucial? Is this just cultural or Religious? I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Asalam, I have read through the previous threads regarding this issue. But I could not draw a conclusion regarding the question pertaining to sadaat or the shari'I criteria's to qualify as a syed. My question is that why can't people whose mothers are from sadaat and are najeb ur turfayn but the fathers are from ghair sadaat be qualified to be Syeds. Didnt the sadaat start because of Bibi Zahra .s.a? Aren't the bibi's of ahlulbayt mahram to such children as they are their maternal aunts, grandmother's etc. When you contact the marjae, for instance Agha Khamenie says that though they are the descendents of the prophet yet they can't be attributed as Syed's. I know what matters the most to Allah swt is a person's taqwa but still i want to be clear on the issue. Also i have heard there are a few marajae who consider such people as Syed's.

Since a number of threads about Khums and Saadat have been cropping up recently, while trying to answer one of them, a question came up in my mind. If the point is to help all poor, whether Syed or not and whether through Khums or Zakat, why do our laws make Khums the exclusive source from which poor Saadat can be helped with? Why not just allow all the poor, whether Syed or not, to be helped from the Zakat? Why is Zakat haraam for the Syeds? While I remember coming across the reasoning sometime ago, in a lecture, I've now forgotten so I would be very grateful if someone could shed some light on the matter.

Dear All, I want to know the basic purpose of Aqeeqa with a refference from hadith if possible. Is it allowed for a SYED to Dine at a non Syeds Aqeeqa ? Because i have been told by few un-reliable sources that Aqeeqa as "sadiqa" but i believe otherwise. Anyway i need to confirm this, i have also sent this question to Ayatollah. Can anyone please help me in this regard?

Asaalm-O-Laikum, I would like advice on the topic of finding a Syed man to marry, I myself am Syed and currently looking for marriage Insha'Allah. I am coming on to the age of eighteen, I would say so myself I am mature for my age although this sounds ever so young. Wondering how I would take this about? Advice is appreciated. :)
