  1. https://www.quora.com/profile/Abbas-Naderi/all_posts "If we look around us, everything is possible-to-exist (and can exist as well as can not-exist). If everything was so, there wouldn't be anything existing at start, and nothing would follow. So there should be some must-exist to have created all of this." Can someone explain in depth (using easy language and examples) what this post is trying to say
  2. Asalamualaikum, I heard that there is a verse in the quran where certain people are given the qadr of Allah. Before it use to be Rasullulah, but because there is no prophet then there must be an infallible guide to recieve the qadr of Allah in present day. Therefore there must always be a hujja on this earth. Does anyone know the reference to this verse? Also can one provide an article on the verses alluding to ALL 12 imams. Not just Imam Ali(as) or Imam Mahdi(as)
  3. http://www.the-tls.co.uk/tls/public/article1634311.ece As a theory of ethics Utilitarianism is very flawed, so yes, it's good to give money to guide dog charities, but the article makes a good point that we need to pay more attention to the impact our charity will have and try and give charitably in an effective way.
  4. After discussing with other members, I have decided to share a chapter I am writing for my enlightenment class. The paper focuses on Karbala, and dissects the events through four main content areas: history, philosophy, art, and science (psychology). Here is the second chapter on philosophy: (I would appreciate advice) Chapter II: The Philosophy of Imam Husayn (as) ————————————————————————————————— Utilizing Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave,” found within The Republic, as an essential framework for deciphering and illuminating the philosophy of Imam Husayn (as), I will establish the histor
  5. My prayers have been answered. Finally the lectures were posted on youtube, and believe me it is not a disappointment. What profound lecturers they are! I highly recommend watching them. At very least just watch the first lecture posted, I believe it is very beneficial. Before someone asks me to give a summary of each lecture, I will be happy to give a snippet, nothing more nothing less ^_^ I want you to watch the lecture for yourself and find out. (If I do not have a summary it is because I am still watching it or have not gotten to it) (wasalam) 1. Balance of Life & Soul - Br. Hassa
  6. Salaam brothers and sisters, I've never been very religious even though I've been born into a Shi'a Muslim family. I mostly just follow the basics of Islam because it's what I've grown up around, not because I understand them necessarily. Recently, however, I've been trying to get closer to God and find out answers to some questions I've had my whole life. However there are some questions that I'd like answers for that are more personal than factual, and they are presented below. Some of these questions are to do with facts, but I would really like your own opinion on them. I would highly ap
  7. I want to open a topic on Collages and Technology and link it to philosophy. You post a picture of anything technical made with your hands - called handcraft - and post it here. It Can be a printer, a car, a computer, any other technical issue. Materials can be used - pen, paper or cardboard, glue, ruler, scissors. The rule is, before you post your picture, philosophize in few lines on the picture posted before. Anyone who has created anything technical with paper already, can start, else I post my first technical handcraft.
  8. Salam Alaykum, I am trying to find as many books in english as I can from Aalim Ali Sbeyt Alnili (علي سبيط النيلي). Unfortunately all I can find is Arabic, and I don't have time to learn the entire language. If anyone could help me in finding english translations (preferably reliable, and quality english), I'd greatly appreciate it. Wasalam
  9. Salam 'Alaykum. Hi, guys. I was wondering if any of you have read Karen Armstrong's "The Case for God". I really admire Ms.Armstrong's work and think this book is a good defense of theism in the traditional sense. However, there are a couple of points I can't seem to agree with her on. For the sake of a productive discussion I'd like to limit this conversation to those who've read the book. She says that the physical world cannot tell us anything about God. While I don't have a problem with this per se, I do think this type of doctrine can become a problem. If this is the case, then how ca

  11. Salam dear friends I am sure that everyone is witnessing some great changes and challenges of the modern world. The times are strange to say the least. Are these the end times? The possibilities exist. After study of many books and listening to many lectures, I have reached the conclusion that there is one guy who is ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT for all of us to listen to. His speeches are vital regarding our responsibility. I have a lot to share but all my work is summarized by these speeches. I INSIST again n again n again all my friends that they MUST listen to this: http://www.hussainiat.c
  12. Dear friends, Just a question about some concepts I've come across in my modest, and no doubt inadequate, study of islamic doctrine and philosophy. I hope there are some people he that can enlighten me with the backgrounds I need. There is the concept of "pre-existence". The notion which I almost automatically associate with a neo-platonist philosophical outlook; the concept of immaterial perfect ideas that exist before the creation of material being and that somehow manifest themselves in material creation because they mediate all perfect forms that manifest themselves in created material
  13. The fine tuning argument calls our attention to the fact that the laws, initial conditions and constants of physics are precisely set to allow the existence of conscious life in this universe, and had they been even slightly different then no life would be possible. It is argued that this is evidence of theism, or that theism is the best explanation for this data, as we wouldn't expect it if atheism was true. I want to call your attention to a new development of the fine tuning argument advanced by philosopher Robin Collins (who has a postgrad physics background). This is the fine tuning o

Here is Practical Explanation about Next Life, Purpose of Human Life, philosophical/religious facts, theories etc. ___________________________ *********** Practical Explanation ( For Example ) :- `1st of all can you tell me every single seconds detail from that time when you born ?? 16. Below is a technical refutation of determinism by Alvin Plantinga taken from his recent book Science, Religion, & Naturalism. Where the Conflict Really Lies. He shows that determinism is necessarily false. He starts with a premise about the laws of nature which states that the laws of nature are as they are provided God doesn't act to change them. Of course you do not need to believe in God in order to believe this because it is a conditional statement that doesn't presuppose the existence of God. He then goes on to assume the truth of determinism, and then deduce a falsehood. Give
  17. Salaam For those interested, Professor Ali Paya is delivering an academic paper entitled: "Islamic Philosophy: Past, Present and Future." at Mahfil Ali, North Harrow - see https://www.facebook.com/events/1407922876094237/?fref=ts for details, or www.sicm.org.uk. The aim of this paper is to critically assess the present state of Islamic philosophy in its main home, namely, Iran. However, since such a study requires some knowledge of the past developments, the paper briefly, though critically, deals with the emergence and subsequent phases of change in the views of Muslim philosophers from ninth
  18. Salam az man! I know I'm not the first Muslim to have these thoughts but in this thread I'd like to explore in depth the reasons why the Islamic world as a whole, whether Sunni, Shia or Wahabi, Sufi or non-Sufi, is so far the Western or developed countries of the world by almost every possible measure of success. When did this rot set in if you consider that at one time the Muslim world were world-leaders in almost every measure of success -- albeit many centuries ago now! So what and when did it all go wrong? Please don't let this become a thread about sectarianism, Sunni vs. Shia etc.
  19. Salaam, I am doing research on the concept of Unity of Existence since few days and this is what i have understood: - Everything is God, i.e. God has given us his powers - All the attributes belong to Him. - Evil is just the distortion of his attributes by us. Recently someone told me that in the concept of Wahdat al Wujud everything is considered as GOD.. I am God, you are God, if you see a dog then he is also God, etc etc... He said Wahdat al Wujud is nothing but Sufiism. Now can someone please explain me in a plain and simple language? [Plz don't provide me links of other discussions becaus
  20. Salaamu Alaykum, Looking for hawza lectures on Plato's works right now. I can understand Arabic only, but i guess if you know where to find some farsi ones you can post them too in case some one else needs it and they understand farsi. But please make sure you mention whether its arabic, farsi and who the lecturer is and if he's unknown a brief few line bio of who he is. If you have any lectures on Aristotle that would be appreciated too. JazakAllah Khayran
  21. Salaam, Does anyone know the status of current English Translations of Mullah Sadra's work? I currently own William Chittick's very good translation (which includes the adjacent original Arabic text) of the great work "Iksir Al-Arifin." However, what we really need for the English speaking community is a translation of Mullah Sadra's magnum opus: The "Afsar" (The four journeys). As far as I know, a few chapters from different volumes have been translated here and there but that's about it. Inshallah, someone will undertake this work soon. NOTE: I am NOT talking about books "about" Mullah Sadra
  22. Salam alaykum, Is it permissible to say the divine names and attributes are created? Jazak Allah khair
  23. Does Mysticism(Irfan), deviant elements in Philosophy and Sufism have a place in Islam? Now one might ask and especially a Sunni would say what is the difference between the stuff being performed in this video and the Shia stuff done in Aushra? The answer is, they are completely different and are no were relevant to one another. The rituals performed in Ashura is generally grieving for Imam Hussien and reviving his message in order to please Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى. After all, as Allahسُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى mentioned in the Quran , crying and grieving to whom Allahسُب
