  4. Assalaamu alaykum, Please be aware that the fourth annual International Revert Muslims Conference will be held in London, England September 7th, 8th, 9th 2012
  5. Assalamu Alaykum, My name is Mariam and I have converted to Islam about 3 months ago after a lengthy research and reading up about it. I am an English speaker, and was blessed with close friends (born Muslims) who taught me to pray and answered my questions early on in my journey to Allah, the Most Merciful and the Most Great. However, I have moved cities a month ago and am currently living in London where I don't have any Muslim friends at all. I was wondering if anyone knows of any Shia centres that have lectures / gatherings for sisters in English? I would love to become a part of a community here in London, but cannot find anything myself. Especially now, during the blessed month of Ramdhan, are there any places in London that do night prayers for sisters? Or if you are a revert sister yourself, would be nice to hear from you.. Shukran... Mariam.

  9. This is shocking! Estugfurallah!! May They Rot In Hell For Their Filth! LONDON (AP) – Nine men of Pakistani and Afghan descent were convicted Tuesday of luring girls as young as 13 into sexual encounters using alcohol and drugs, in a case that has heightened racial tensions in Britain and stirred protests among the far right. AFP/Getty Images A combination of undated handout pictures shows eight of nine men who were convicted of a variety of offenses connected with a child sexual exploitation ring. Enlarge AFP/Getty Images A combination of undated handout pictures shows eight of nine men who were convicted of a variety of offenses connected with a child sexual exploitation ring. The five victims who shared their stories with jurors during the trial were all white. They spoke of being raped, assaulted and traded for sex, sometimes being passed from man to man, and sometimes being too drunk to stop the abuse. One said that by the end of the ordeal, she "had no emotion." The trial has been controversial in more than one respect. One of the victims first spoke to police in August 2008, supplying underwear with DNA evidence implicating one of the suspects, but a Crown Prosecution Service lawyer failed to press charges after concerns that the jury might have questioned the girl's credibility. An Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating why that decision was made. And police have interviewed more than 40 girls as part of their investigation, raising the possibility that there are other victims who did not come forward to testify. "We'd get free alcohol, cigarettes, food and free taxis and things," said the girl who went to the police in 2008. "At first I thought it (was) great because nothing had happened, like nothing sexual. Towards the end it was like, it could be up to five different men in a day, sometimes every day, at least four or five times a week." The girl, who was lured in to the sex ring at age 15 and is now 20, escaped the gang after she became pregnant. The ring was based in the town of Rochdale, about 170 miles from London and abused the girls in taxis, kebab shops and apartments. The men, who were convicted Tuesday of charges including rape, assault, sex trafficking and conspiracy, range in age from 22 to 59. One worked as a religious studies teacher at a mosque but it is not known if the others were religious. The men used various defenses, including claiming that the girls were prostitutes. Sentencing for the men — Kabeer Hassan, Abdul Aziz, Abdul Rauf, Mohammed Sajid, Adil Khan, Abdul Qayyum, Mohammed Amin, Hamid Safi and a 59-year-old man who cannot be named for legal reasons — begins Wednesday. "The details of the offenses that we have heard in this trial in the last few weeks have shocked and appalled us all," said Nazi Afzal, chief crown prosecutor for the North West Area. Greater Manchester Police Assistant Chief Constable Steve Heywood denied that the case was about race. "It is not a racial issue," he said. "This is about adults preying on vulnerable young children." But race was repeatedly brought to the fore as the case progressed. Far right groups such as the English Defence League and the British National Party led protests shortly after the trial began Feb. 6. The father of one victim told the court he joined the BNP after learning of what had happened to his daughter. The trial also was delayed after two nonwhite lawyers representing some of the men were attacked by far-right protesters and quit the case. Muslim leaders condemned the crime and praised the bravery of the victims for coming forward. "These criminals have brought shame on themselves, their families and our community," said Mohammed Shafiq of the Ramadhan Foundation, one of Britain's largest Muslim organizations. British law prohibits publishing the names of sex-crime victims. The Associated Press also generally does not name victims of sexual assault. During the trial, one girl described how she was forced to sleep with 20 men in a night. Another was raped by two men while so drunk that she was vomiting during the ordeal. The sex ring used another girl, dubbed the "honeymonster," to lure other girls into the ring. "They ripped away all my dignity and all my last bit of self-esteem," one victim said. "By the end of it, I had no emotion." Both the Crown Prosecution Service and police apologized for not taking the first victim's case to trial earlier. It was Afzal who overturned the initial decision and decided to file charges against the men that girl had accused. "The witness was entirely credible," he said. "To put it bluntly, the original decision was wrong." Tuesday's convictions bore similarities to a large investigation into a sex ring in the East Midlands that wrapped up in November 2010. Several men of South Asian descent were convicted of rape and other sexual offenses for preying on vulnerable girls, aged 13 to 20 years old, by plying them with alcohol and forcing them to have sex. http://www.usatoday....ring/54845054/1

  21. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has strongly condemned the violent treatment of British protesters by police forces in the United Kingdom. Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, President Ahmadinejad referred to British protesters as “opposition” and condemned the killing of demonstrators by the British police, IRNA reported. The true opposition in Britain is the people that are pushed to the ground and beaten on London streets and slain and yet "no one hears their voice," he added. He stated that the main issues facing the world today include discrimination, wars and the type of management in societies, and said the ongoing global problems are rooted in “misguided management.” The Iranian chief executive also said that the world has witnessed the worst management during recent centuries, noting, “The current era is even worse than the era of slavery.” President Ahmadinejad added that over 100 million people have been killed in wars over the past century, as wrong policies have created a deep income gap and millions of people are suffering absolute poverty and are on the threshold of death. The unrest in Britain began on August 6 in the north London suburb of Tottenham, after a few hundred people gathered outside a police station to protest against the fatal shooting and killing of a Black man, Mark Duggan by the police. However, violent protests erupted in major cities like Birmingham, Liverpool, and Bristol in Britain's worst rioting since the 1980s. Protest outbreaks were also reported in Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham, Reading, and Oxford. Turmoil is now threatening to sweep across Britain as the mayhem and looting has also spread to the central city of Birmingham, the western city of Bristol, the northwestern city of Liverpool, and south London neighborhood of Brixton. British authorities said hundreds of people had been arrested as the unrest entered a fourth night.
  22. The death of Mark Duggan, a 29-year-old father-of-four who died instantly in an apparent exchange of gunfire with London police on Thursday evening, has caused widespread rioting in Tottenham. Buildings and cars were set on fire on Saturday night as police officers clashed with hundreds of angry protesters. The scenes were some of the worst rioting on British territory for many years...Mark Duggan was apparently in the back of a minicab on Thursday evening when officers from the Specialist Firearms Command reportedly tried to arrest him. Shots were reportedly fired and it’s believed that armed officers fired two shots. One of the officers had a lucky escape when a bullet, allegedly fired by Duggan, lodged in a police radio instead of entering the officer’s chest. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has issued a statement on the fatal shooting of Mark Duggan and has appealed for witnesses to come forward and say what they saw. The IPCC statement came as police seemed to have got the situation in Tottenham back under control, at least for now. But the factors that led to the riot have not been dealt with, and seem unlikely to be dealt with fully unless the police take a fundamentally different approach to engaging with communities in Britain. Clearly the Tottenham riots are about more than just the Mark Duggan death. They are about a breakdown of the relationship between police and a significant part of the community in this part of North London. Lately, it seems that Britain’s police believe they can keep law and order solely through force. But there was a time, not so long ago, when the police recognised the need to inspire trust and confidence.
  23. British Home Secretary Theresa May has threatened the use water cannons and even military force to quell widespread protests in London against power abuse by police. As the British capital witnessed the third night of spreading violence and the evident loss of police control over several parts of London, May said that officers would be allowed to use water cannons. The decision was soon backed by Former London mayor Ken Livingstone, who believes that police must be allowed to use 'the weapon' to disperse protesters. Livingstone said, “The issue of water cannon would be very useful given the level of arson we are seeing here.” The riot-control weapon that shoots a high-pressure stream of water was employed to control mass protests in Northern Ireland. May also insisted that in case the police fail to regain control of London streets, the government will consider the option of deploying military forces throughout the city. Patrick Mercer, the Tory MP and former Army officer, asked the Home Secretary to use water cannons to control the violence that has spread across the capital. “I find it strange that we are willing to use this sort of measures against the Irish yet when Englishmen step out of line and behave in this atrocious and appalling way, we are happy to mollycoddle them,” said Mercer. “If the police want cannon then they should be allowed to use them. I have used water cannon myself and I found them extremely effective,” he said. Several other figures also urged the Home Office to apply the so-called anti-riot weapon, claiming that in some cases cannon use was necessary. Met Police said in a statement that they used armoured vehicles to push back London protesters on the third night of spreading unrest in London. Commander Christine Jones, said, "We are using tactics flexibly to respond to the disorder we are still seeing in different areas of the capital. Anyone involved in criminality should be under no illusion that we will pursue you. We have been making arrests all evening and have a team working during the night examining CCTV images. We will follow up evidence in the coming days in order to bring anyone else responsible for criminal acts to justice."
