  1. Salam dear friends, I have a quick question about life insurance. I was raised in a Sunni family, and according the Hanafi fiqh we followed, taking out life insurance was deemed haram. Why is life insurance permissable in Shia Islam? As this is the case, who would I take out life insurance with? I live in London. All answers will be greatly appreciated.
  2. As salaam alaikum. I know of some women that apply henna to their nails. I was wondering is it haram? Can you still pray/ make wudhu with henna on your nails? I've had a browse online about this matter but haven't really found anything on this topic. Any advice/ knowledge would be much appreciated as I'd like to apply some to my nails but I want to make sure it's permissible first. JazakAllah in advance.
  3. I live in US and i used to eat pretty much all kind of chips and candies and jellos. Now, i try to avoid gelatin and all the products which could have any enzymes or fats derived from animal. For instance, I can't eat all the tasty chips and candies because they enzymes or gelatin in them or they don't have U sign on the packing. Many cosmetic products use animal fat and i don't know what type or animal they are using. Also, many vitamins have gelatin in them. For now i am trying to follow these rules i got from muslim consumer group website The word " Vegetable" is mentioned befor
  4. Hello brothers and sisters. I am wondering if those who follow by Shirazi can eat from restaurants such as KFC, Nandos etc considering the fact that they stun their chickens. I have messaged the HFA (the association that approves of the food being halal, and have told me that they stun their chickens, but make sure they are still alive. Can anyone confirm that the Shirazi allows this?
  5. Salam alaykum, all! If one is reading the Qur'an and falls asleep doing so, has the sleeping become haram because of the broken wudu? I follow the rulings of Ayatullah Sistani, but the fatawa of other maraja' are also ok. I have that kind of curiosity. Thank you! -Freedom
  6. Salam all, Sorry for asking a redundant question on Gelatin, but does anyone know if Istehaleh (i.e. the property change of an Un-Tahir into Tahir product) applies to vitamin pills? Unfortunately, most of these pills contain gelatin as an ingredient, and while the concept of Istehaleh is clear, I'm not sure if it applies to this case. To make it clear, the gelatin in question is not from a halal source--and it is "bovine" gelatin. Also, such supplements are necessary for health purposes. Appreciate your help in advance, Jazakallah Kheyr.

  8. Asalamu alaikum, I have been trying to deal with this issue for quite some time now. I am a devouted shia muslim. I do my prayers, fasting, don't drink, gamble, fornicate, or any of those things. But what I do wonder is that why is homosexuality a bad thing? I read into it a lot and hear so many of their stories on how they have to struggle to live their lives. Now we can say that perhaps they weren't born like this since biologically homosexuality is useless and that they chose this path instead. But it doesn't seem to be that way when I read about it, and getting to learn m
  9. Asalamu aleykum my brothers and sisters I want to ask help for this bad problem? I feel me very ashamed about this ASTAGHFIRULLAH and i want to finally leave it! Its a sin which follows me since my childhood and its masturbation. Maybe some will be shocked and I also read in a Hadiths that mastubation is a way to hell. I love Allah, the Quran and the Ahlul Bayt and i dont want to disapointed them with this, because i want also take responsibility when i want to marry a future wive, to be muslim father/husband and the masturbation destroys me physically and mentally and its need to stop. I
  10. This is going to sound stupid but Is suicide allowed under specific circumstances? I know it is haram but maybe under dire circumstances? Is it mentioned anywhere in islam that it is allowed like what if the only way to avoid some sin or unpleasant act which you are being forced into which you can do nothing else about, is to die- will it be justified? Just wondering
  11. As salaam Alaikum, Ok so I know this may sound abit weird, but I know someone who uses fake tan and she's convinced it's a permissible thing to do. I'm not talking about the tanning beds. I'm just on about the creams/ sprays you can apply to your skin and it sort of just stains it? .. What would you say. Is this allowed in Islam? I've looked online to try and get evidence but not had much look. Just want to look out for my sister for the sake of Allah swt.
  12. Salam, Can we make a list of marjas who deem music as permissible, at least for a limited extent? And maybe their rulings about music? Thanks...
  13. Assalam o Alaikum I am a 22 year Shia living in Pakistan. I am in my last year of my bachelors and in the taqleed of Ayatullah Sayeed Al Hakim. 2 years ago I started a freelance content writing business. My services include writing articles, web content, white papers, academic papers, dissertations, etc. While I have avoided writing on topics such as Alcohol, poker, etc a major part of my earnings comprise of doing dissertations and academic papers for my clients. I hire other writers to perform the writing tasks and keep my profit for managing all the work. Are the earnings from getting thes
  14. Hello. Can someone list the marjas who forbids tatbir by meaning it is haram to do? Thank you
  15. Asalamu Alaikum, I have always been told that pigs, carnivores, and insects are things that we, as Muslims, are forbidden to eat yet when my biology professor told me that pork was only banned during the rise of Christianity and Islam since it wasn't simply cooked well enough. Today you can eat pork just fine as do millions of people. When I told my mother about this she believed me but she told me that the other reason as to why we don't eat pork, carnivores or insects is since we would get the characteristics of those creatures when we eat them. Such as a pig, who doesn't mind if its c
  16. As-salamu alaykum, dear brothers and sisters. I consider this to be a rare privilege for me to stumble across this site and I piously hope that my association with the site would prove to be constructive. Let me pose a very important question to the learned members of this site, which I believe would be beneficial to the mass: What is the stance of Qur'an and the Ahlulbyt (AS) on 'halal' income? Allow me to exemplify. It is my understanding that any financial gain by way of deception, or derived from interests, are strictly haraam. Is there an exhaustive list? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, is t
  17. I'm a young Muslim girl who knows my wrong and rights, Alhamdulillah I don't drink smoke or anything. My brother brought a Bundaberg pineapple and coconut sparkling drink, I checked the ingredients it dosnt show any alcohol ingredient, as I was drinking it one of my friends tell me that it has alcohol in it, I searched it up online and found out that they have 0.5% alcohol in their drinks. I'm confused, am I nejes? Do I have to make ghussul or is their anything I could do? Do I throw away the drinks? Is 0.5% something that is haram? Someone help please?
  18. Salam to all brothers, i shared a ciggarette with a non muslim friend of mine who was slightly drunk at the moment, now im not sure if it was a sin and if im najis now? what should i do to get free of my deed if im considered guilty,...Ya Ali Madad
  19. Salaam alaykum Today I have returned from a "class-journey" to Germany. My class-mates are actually all non-Muslims though we have 2 muslims (one who's fasidah meaning she drinks etc. and one who's maybe a good Muslim). Anyhow, this 2 days travel, was good, though boring, but we had some good laughs, until I realized that we entered a freakin' place where they sell alcohol (a kind of restaurant) and people ordered food, and..........................alcohol. Yes, I sat there, and I ask God for forgivness. Now, this "alcohol" thing was really annoying me, because these non-Musli
  20. Salam. I am currently at university and tend to stay there for around 10 hours each day. This obviously means I am required to use the toilet frequently. However, due to the large usage of these toilets, it is not always hygienic to sit down and urinate. Anyone have any advice as to possible solutions? The prayer hall is far away and walking there every single time I need to use the toilet is very very time consuming. Is it haram to urinate whilst standing?
  21. Asslamu alaykum, How broad or specific is the sentence "When one loves a thing it blinds him and sickens his heart."? Does it mean the haram only? A person? Something material? Everything? Or only some things? "When one loves a thing it blinds him and sickens his heart. Then he sees but with a diseased eye, hears but with unhearing ears. Desires have cut asunder his wit, and the world has made his heart dead, while his mind is all longing for it. Consequently, he is a slave of it and of everyone who has any share in it. Wherever it turns, he turns towards it and wherever it proceeds, he procee
  22. Hi there! I had recently went to the local pet store today to go see if they had kittens there, while I was there I had seen a ferret and was wondering if we could keep them as pets. I had done research on them and checked if they were rodents and every website I've been on had said that they were not rodents but they look like one. I had asked my aunt and she told me that they were rodents but from what I've heard, they're not. She told me to search it up on some Islam websites, I couldn't find discussions that we're helpful so I'm here to ask this specific question myself. She had also told

  25. Salaam Alaikum brothers and sisters, I know this topic has been exhausted to great depths, and this may be a redundant question. I always see subject relating to haram music, but my question regards halal music since there is much less halal music than haram. Basically, I am going to state what I've heard and tell me if I am correct or not. Also some links to halal music would be great. From what I understand halal music is: - that which does not contain "ghina" or singing - that which the music instruments do not produce an entertaining sound, rather the music is soothing and calming If
