Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh delivers a speech at the historic Al-Azhar mosque in Egypt, in which he saultes all the nations and people of the Arab spring, including the Syrian people, and he made clear that Hamas supported the implementation of reforms in Syria. Unfortunately, mainstream Western and some Arab news outlets have exploited Haniyeh's comments by portraying them as a sign that Hamas has completely separated itself from Syria, Iran and Hezbollah. However, what Haniyeh said was very diplomatic. He praised the Syrian people and their efforts for reforms and democracy. In the meantime, Al-Assad's regime has practically shown that it supports and is after implementing reforms too, so this could be seen as a sign of Hamas' acknowledgement of these efforts by Assad. For example, in addition to the very careful wording of his brief comments on Syria, when chants were made againt Iran and Hezbollah by the crowds, Haniyeh himself remained passive. This is an example of very tight political manuevering by Haniyeh and Hamas.
