Surely previous prophets(as) came as well, who might have stated the same. So its not surprising that someone from the past knew this.

I am sure some more knowledgeable brother will shed light on this matter.
As far as I remember. That Allah created every soul before this world was created. They all proclaimed ONENESS of Allah. And then were sent to this world.
And even before this and everything that was created Allah created Prophets' (s) Noor(soul) and out of his noor he created imam Ali (a.s) and then hazrat Fatima. And then the rest of the 11 imams. They used to worship and glorify Allah.
That's all I know of preexistent.
May Allah forgive me if I am wrong.
    Salam.

    (Salam)
I understood it this way. Its completely metaphorical from start to end.
Whale = core(as other related hadith points to this fact)
    Water = magma
    Rock = mantle
Bulls horn = Mountains(in tafsir of ibn Abbas(sunni source) it says 40,000 bull horns. And guess what scientists say mountain are around in 10s of thousands.
Wet sand/soil = where we stand upon.
Incomprehensible = gravity (no one has accuratly explained why it exists thus proving the hadith is sahih)

    I read this hadith recently.
The Prophet (s.a.w.) said, ‘Even if the angels Israfil, Gabriel, Mika’il, the bearers of the Throne, and I among them were to pray for you, you would not marry other than the woman that was written for you.’

The reward of visiting kerbala is way more according to shia traditions, and the land if kerbala is holier still. Yet Hajj is a wajib Act. A wajib act comes before sunnat act.

I wonder why do Muslims pray the entire year, when the reward of praying on layl latul qadr is that of praying a 1000 months. 83.33 years.

Majalis basically means gathering. An aalim ascends the pulpit and start delivering lecture about deen in the light of Ahadeeth and Riwayaat. Did not the prophet (sawa) used to do that.
    Kanz al-Umal, Volume 15 page 731:
Abdullah bin Akrema said: “I am wondering for the people tale that Umar bin al-Khatab prohibited mourning! In Makka and Madina, the women of Bani Mughira (tribe) cried over Khalid bin al-Walid for seven days, they tore the front opening of the shirts and beat the cheeks and feed the people and Umar didn’t prohibit them”
See your master didn't objected to beating cheeks. Now please don't peel the skin of hair by differentiating chest and cheek.

Our Imam (a.s.) has okayed the weeping and chest beating and it suffice us:
Narrated from Hasan ibn Ali ibn Abi Hamzah, from his father who said:
عن أبي عبدالله عليه السلام قال : سمعته يقول : إنَّ البكاء والجزع مكروهٌ للعبد في كلِّ ما جزع ما خلا البكاء والجزع على الحسين بن عليّ عليهما السلام ، فإنّه فيه مأجورٌ
Abu Abdillah (Imam Sadiq (as)) said:

"Crying and JAZA* is Makruh for the slaves (of Allah) over any matter except crying and Jaza over Husain ibn Ali (as). Verily the one who cries and acts impatiently over Husain (as) will be rewarded."

[Source: Kamil Az Ziyarat Chapter. 32 Hadees:2]

*JAZA - uneasiness, restlessness and acting impatiently. Some examples include wearing black clothes and hitting the chests or things over a tragedy.
(Author of Kamil Az Ziyarat has included only authentic narrations)

Man. You're stuck on 40 days. Prophet Yaqub (a.s) cried for Prophet Yusuf (a.s.) for 40 years. Imam Sajjad (a.s.) cried on Imam Hussain (a.s.) for 40 years. Janabe Fatema Zahra (s.a.) cried for her father until she left this world. Prophet (sawa) declare the whole year of passing away of Hazrat Abu Talib (a.s.) as 'Aamul Huzn' (year of grief). etc..
No one has defined time limit and no one has put a time frame. So chill.

A genuine Arif with the permission of Allah can have access to the hidden knowledge of Allah and can be able to foretell the future. And we have significant numbers of such personalities among Sunni and Shiites.

There's an ocean of difference between "caliph" and "successor", the latter a much more involving and comprehensive term in the context of Wilayat. You are assuming Shias believe Abu Bakr took the leadership from Ali. Abu Bakr took nothing. Ali was the leader in all, palace or no palace.
Sunnis don't deny the existence of the event, so what do they gain in downplaying or muddying the waters? I get why some king or aristocrat would want to perpetuate alternate history to justify their dunya rule, but why some everyday poor Muslim who gains nothing from the resulting system? The desire to fight for what their forefathers gave them?
For all Muslims, this is your Prophet, the one who very clearly made a declaration. A very clear and specific declaration. The same Prophet you diligently analyze his sayings on which hand you use to eat and which foot to walk into the bathroom. And we have the gall to even ask what's the point of celebrating? Is it not self evident? Or has denialism and cognitive dissonance permeated so much into our tired brains and weary hearts?
But forbid we waste time on such a trivial and insignificant event. Better time spent asking if it's 8 or 20 rakats.

Yes Allah promised that if they all apostated he will bring better people. And he indeed did and keep bringing them. Unfortunately always the righteous were less. You will find that theme in the Quran more then anywhere.
Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 8.584 Narrated Anas: The Prophet said, "Some of my companions will come to me at my Lake Fount, and after I recognize them, they will then be taken away from me, whereupon I will say, ‘My companions!’ Then it will be said, ‘You do not know what they innovated (new things) in the religion after you.”(also Sahih Muslim, part 15, pp 53-54)
    Sahih al-Bukhari Hadith: 8.586
Narrated Ibn al-Musaiyab: "Some men from my companions will come to my Lake-Fount and they will be driven away from it, and I will say, ‘O Lord, my companions!’ It will be said, ‘You have no knowledge of what they innovated after you left: they turned APOSTATE as renegades (reverted from true Islam)." (also Sahih Muslim, part 10, p64, also P59)

The case of companions being settled,
Didn't the ummah of Musa(as) sacrifice? Didn't they turn away? Those who came back from baqra to haroon they were lucky. But those who didn't. Sedly.

The Prophet (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “I wish I could see my brothers, (the Companions said) aren’t we your brothers O Prophet of Allah? He replied: No, you are my Companions. My brothers are those who come after me and believe in me without seeing me.” (Ahmed, sahih)
Apparently their faith was 40 times of that of companions, again from your hadiths
My point being, its self explanatory :3

Perhaps like the ummah of musa(as).
Where hazrat musa left (as) left for sometime. And left haroon (as) over the people. Instead of listening to Musa (as) they started worshipping the baqra
And here when our prophet(as) left his haroon behind. They started 'worshipping' Abu bakr.
When musa came back he fixed things. So will our prophet.
