I have compiled a number of narrations on "The Spring of Life", which appears in many of our narrations and "the one who drinks from it would not die until it so happens that he is the one who asks Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) for the death" (Tafseer al Ayyashi 2 : 79 /341). It is also said in many narrations that al Khidr (عليه السلام) drank from this spring (see below):

The story of al Khidr and Dhulqarnain is mentioned in Chapter 18 of the Qur'an (Surah Kahf). Although the Qur'an does not explicitly mention "The Spring of Life", it hints towards it when Yusha loses the fish. In both Sunni and Shi'a books, Chapter 18 of the Qur'an is a key chapter to protect us from the fitna of Dajjal, where it is mentioned in our books that the one who recites it would be safe from the fitna of Dajjal, so we should pay special attention to it. It is also recommended to recite it on Friday (or Friday night) (see https://hubeali.com/books/English-Books/TafseerHub-e-Ali/CH18_SuraAlKahf_Verses1-49.pdf).

313_Waiter reacted to Eddie Mecca in New trend amongst younger Shia to challenge long held beliefs
Should we believe like Catholics who blindly follow the pope?...or should Shīʿi Muslims be more like forensic investigators who carefully and meticulously follow the path that the evidence leads them to without reservation? I think we should behave more like forensic investigators and archeologists who follow proof...you're right...the devil is lurking behind every corner trying to lead us astray...the secularists, the postmodernists, the Zionists, the Saudis, the Hindutva Movement, the evangelicals, CIA, MI-6 etc. are all attempting to misdirect Muslims...but the well-read Muslim is a lot less likely to be fooled...the passionate, goodhearted blind follower is more likely to suffer from inner conflict or have an existential crisis somewhere down the line because he (she) took the lazy route and didn't do his (her) due diligence...in my experience it's always the mindless traditionalist who falls victim to atheism, assimilation etc....the ones who come through the door emotionally...usually exist the door emotionally...Qurʾān admonishes human beings for not using their mind, intellect and reason and strongly discourages robotically mimicking the masses... Ali (peace be upon him) said, “Verily, truth and falsehood are not known by the statures of men. Know the truth and you will recognize its people. Know falsehood and you will recognize the one who brings it.”
I must entertain the notion and take into consideration that my mom may not be my mom...We don't challenge the obvious until the so-called 'obvious', 'evident' etc. is called into question and challenged...so Columbus arrived in 1492...not 1592, not 1692, not 1992...the indigenous natives tell us that he arrived in 1492 and the Europeans site the exact same year (i.e. 1492)...so there's universal historical consensus on the matter...if contrary evidence by a legitimate source arises in the future and contradicts the time-honored stance then we proceed further and investigate...we're not scared of truth and we advance fearlessly...we place ourselves in an objective position to analyze the contrasting proof once it surfaces...we're brave and we must judge the new proofs fairly and without bias or favoritism

313_Waiter got a reaction from PureExistence1 in Did Iblees commit shirk by refusing to bow to Adam (عليه السلام)? What is the deeper meaning of shirk?
I was under the impression that all sins are rooted in shirk (either concealed shirk or manifest shirk). I also believed that most of us are mushrik based on this verse:
For example, a lot of us use Allah as a means and not as an end, we want to worship Allah so that we can go to heaven, this would be defined as concealed shirk, though it does not mean that we would necessarily be deprived of heaven for doing this. This is what I heard from Dr Farrokh Sekaleshfar here.

Similarly, I also assumed that Iblees's refusal to bow to Adam was a form of shirk.

However, I am met with the following narrations that indicate it was not shirk but that it was rather kufr.  Could it be that the blessed Imam (عليه السلام) is referring to manifest shirk and not concealed shirk?

Browsing online and I came across this excerpt from a Shi'i Muslim group from South Africa...under the subheading, 'ISLAM WILL RETURN AS SOMETHING STRANGE'...it reads,
"There is a well known authentic hadith that is even promoted by our local Muslim Radio stations which says:
“Islam began as a something strange and it will return as something strange, so blessed are the strangers.”
Upon inquiry from the Prophet (sawa) regarding who these “strangers” are, he said “They are few from among the people who reform while others make mischief.”
This hadith indicates that when Islam started, it was a strange and new phenomenon, something that people were very unfamiliar with. This aspect of the hadith is understandable in that Islam came to a jahiliyyah society that lived by norms and standards that were inhuman, while Islam brought a system to perfect Human Moral Character.
But what then happened that will cause Islam to once again return as a strange phenomenon?
What happened to the genuine/real Islam that was brought by Prophet Muhammad (sawa) such that it started to become polluted – and the pollution became so bad that the genuine Islam is not recognizable any longer and thus considered to be “strange” with only the name of Islam remaining?
Everyone believes that the genuine/real Islam of Prophet Muhammad (sawa) became polluted, but then we have the most fascinating and extreme diversity of interpretation regarding what that pollution really is that has caused Islam to become “strange”." It continues:
VIEW OF THE FOLLOWERS OF AHLUL BAIT ((عليه السلام)) ON THIS HADITH
"The followers of the Ahlul Bait ((عليه السلام)) certainly agree with the authenticity of the hadith under discussion but have a very different view regarding the interpretation thereof.
In our time more than any other time Islam has become polluted. But which Islam are we referring to?
There are too many versions of Islam in the market and the real Islam is hidden in between as something strange.
To understand who will bring the genuine version of Islam back to us, let’s examine a hadith of Imam Ja’far Saadiq ((عليه السلام)).
Someone asked Imam Saadiq ((عليه السلام)) what is the meaning of this hadith under discussion, particularly the portion “Islam will return as something strange”?
The Imam replied: “When our Qaaim arises, he will invite people to a new Islam.”
That means he will bring the version of Islam that will leave people surprised as they had lost familiarity with it and thus it appears to be a “new” religion, but its nothing new, its just the original teachings of Prophet Muhammad (sawa) that had become polluted and went lost over the ages.
When people asked Imam Saadiq ((عليه السلام)) regarding the practical seerah and lifestyle of Imam Mahdi ((عليه السلام)), he said: “He will do what the Prophet (sawa) did, he will demolish jahiliyyah matters like the Prophet (sawa) demolished it. And Islam will have a fresh start.”
When we wait for Imam Mahdi ((عليه السلام)), it is this genuine Islam that we are waiting for which will return as a strange phenomenon.
So blessed be the ones who are strangers! Because they stood for genuine Islam and rejected the polluted version thereof.
This week we also remembered the anniversary of the passing away of Ayatullah Behjat who was a giant in the field of spirituality and was one of those people who had a deep connection with Imam Mahdi ((عليه السلام)). His speciality was that he always encouraged the students of religion to develop a connection with Imam Mahdi ((عليه السلام)) and to cause his love to rule our hearts.
May Almighty Allah grant us to be among those “strangers.”"

    Salaam gang,
A couple of questions real quick: 1.) When Imam Mahdi (a) appears/reappears will he be bringing an entirely new religion? That is to say, a new religion completely and totally? Or will he bring Islam...but an Islam entirely rebranded and renewed...revived, invigorated and perfected to the point where it's nonrecognizable from the Islam we've grown accustomed to during the modern era? 2.) There exists some ʾaḥādīṯh about him changing or abrogating or tweaking the Sharīʿah in some way...can someone elaborate on this? Are these ʾaḥādīṯh considered weak or strong or is there some type of special interpretation for these sayings? If the Sharīʿah is immutable then how can he (a) change it?...i.e. "He (Mahdi) will do what the Prophet did. He will demolish whatever proceeds him just as the Prophet demolished the structure of the Time of Ignorance (Jāhilīyah)"..."He (Mahdi) will come with a New Cause - just as Muhammad, at the beginning of Islam, summoned the people to a New Cause - and with a new book and a new religious law (Sharīʿah), which will be a severe test for the Arabs."

313_Waiter reacted to Inspector in What Is The Shia View Of Sufism?
Ok, I am doing that my self.
    Irfan:
"Irfan is a 'gnostic' discipline and study of how man can reach higher heights in the realm of spirituality within the domain of Islam. It is a systematic method of gaining the knowledge, skills and tools to build the 'self' in this world for the benefit of the Hereafter."
Irfan allows you to see, through the signs & evidences, the unseen. Irfan allows you to gain the levels of certainty. As Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) has said in Quran:
    وَفِي أَنفُسِكُمْ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ
51:21) And in your own souls (too); will you not then see?
    Your own soul is unseen to you, Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is asking you to look at the signs & evidences within yourself. The more you knowledge you get of yourself the more knowledge you get of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى);
من عرف نفسه فقد عرف الله
This is the famous saying of Imam Ali (عليه السلام).
So an عارف is a person who knows عرف of the things he believe in.
    Tasawwuf:
Tasawwuf itself is another name of the knowledge we know as Ihsaan and nothing else.
We have many verses in Quran as well as a hadith too describing what ihsaan actually is.
    ثُمَّ اتَّقَوْا وَّ اٰمَنَوْا ثُمَّ اتَّقَوْا وَّاَحْسَنُوْا، وَاﷲُ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِيْنَ
5:93) then they are careful (of their duty) and do good (to others), and Allah loves those who do good (to others).
    The Holy Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) once described the Ihsaan as;
    الإحسانُ أن تَعبُدَ اللّه َ كَأنَّكَ تَراهُ، فإن لَم تَكُن تَراهُ فَإنَّهُ يَراكَ
(Ihsan is to worship God as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, He sees you.)
Someone asked Imam Ali (عليه السلام) the question, have you seen your Lord? The answer of Imam Ali (عليه السلام) was in affirmation and he said through the eyes of my heart and then he also mentioned his viewing of divine signs and evidences before, in and after everything he view.
So these two, Irfan & Tasawwuf are closely interrelated. It should be noted that the way to Ihsaan comes after taqwa, there cannot be Ihsaan if there is no taqwa.
Now irrespective of any misuse of these two concepts of knowledge or any display of extremism, I understand that both of them, are valuable for those human beings who are striving to ascend their spiritual heights as one of our responsibility is to obtain perfection, or excellence, in worship, which can only be obtained with Irfaan & Ihsaan.
    Wassalm!
