    Representing Imam Ridha
When you hold a fresh apple in your hand, you can trace it back to having been picked off a healthy tree. When a room is flooded with light, you can trace the light back to the powerful source. Similarly, our behavior can be traced back to the teachings of our faith, of our Infallible Guides, and ultimately of our Lord. The question is – are we living in a way that is worthy of being traced back to them?
No matter the time, place or age, we must try to live as Muslims in the true sense of the word. Sure, we cannot reach the height of infallibility as our Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them), but that does not mean we should give up being good altogether. If it were pointless to try and emulate them, we would not have been instructed to do so.
Among our many impeccable role models, Allah blessed us with Imam Ali ar-Ridha (peace be upon him) on 11th Dhil-Qa'da. When he journeyed from Madina to Marw – traveling through the lands of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and Turkmenistan in the process – he stopped in the city of Nishapur and shared his knowledge with the Shias there. As he was leaving, they held the reins of the Imam's camel and requested more gems of guidance from his vast treasure of wisdom. He responded:
"My father, Musa son of Ja'far, narrated to me from his father, Ja'far son of Muhammad, who narrated from his father, Muhammad son of Ali, who narrated from his father, Ali son of al-Hussain, who narrated from his father, al-Hussain son of Ali, who narrated from his father, Ali son of Abi Talib, who said, I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him and his progeny) saying, 'I heard Jibrail saying the Almighty Allah has said, "I surely am the God besides whom there is no god, so worship Me. Whoever comes with the testimony of Tawhid sincerely, he has surely entered My castle; and whoever enters My castle, he shall be protected from My chastisement.'""
Imam Ridha then continued with a qualifier: "With its conditions; and I am one of its conditions." So saying, he departed to complete his journey.
We must take this Hadith with the Golden Chain of Narrators to heart and strive to live by it. Without accepting the Imam and his ways, we cannot truly be representatives of our faith just by testifying the Oneness of Allah. Accepting him does not mean simply praying five times a day and reciting the Qur'an; rather, it means trying to implement his teachings in all aspects of our lives. Do we respect others as he did? Do we speak out against racism as he did? Do we give as generously as he did? Do we speak as gently and confidently as he did?
Imam Muhammad Taqi al-Jawad (peace be upon him) was once asked why his father in particular was called "ar-Ridha" while all the other Imams were technically also "ar-Ridha". Imam Jawad replied, "Because both his opposing enemies and obedient supporters were pleased with him, while this did not happen to any of his fathers, so only he was called ar-Ridha." (Bihar al-Anwar) So endearing was his character that everyone loved the Imam! Let alone pleasing our enemies, is our character even such that we please our near and dear ones?
We definitely do not want to have to hide our faces when our Awaited Savior (may Allah hasten his reappearance) returns. It should be obvious that we are followers of Imam Ridha. When discussing a controversial issue with others or trying to prove a point, we should remember to speak without using foul language or raising our voices. When correcting someone – be the mistake trivial or enormous – we should remember not to embarrass them by making fun of them or correcting them rudely in front of a crowd. When interacting with others, we should remember not to degrade some and elevate others just because of their skin color, wealth, or talents. In addition to the basic tenets of our faith, it is in these seemingly little things that we can improve our status as representatives of the Ahlul Bayt and in the eyes of Allah.
To help us further, Imam Ridha elaborated upon the characteristics of good people: "They are those who are delighted when they do good, seek Allah's forgiveness when they do evil, offer gratitude when they receive Allah's favors, are patient when they are tried, and pardon (others) when they are angry." (Tuhaf al-Uqool)
It seems simple enough, but those characteristics are ones that we should strive to improve upon to please our Lord. As Imam Ridha left his family and journeyed to a strange land farther than any of his forefathers had, he was repeatedly offered corrupt power, yet always maintained his focus: the pleasure of Allah. The Imam's God-consciousness in every situation gave him the upper hand over the world, because he did not get caught up in worldly status and wealth.
In another narration, the Imam is said to have been given the nick-name of ar-Ridha because "he is the good pleasure of Allah, the Most Exalted, in His heaven, the pleasure of His Messenger, and of the Imams after him on His earth." (Bihar al-Anwar) He was content with whatever Allah presented, and that helps in giving importance to the next world rather than to this one. If we focus on gaining nearness to the Almighty, our struggle will be so much easier because we will see no point in doing something which displeases Him and repels others from the divine religion.
If we really seek Imam ar-Ridha's intercession on our behalf, and if we wish to be proper representatives of Islam, then we must work for it. By doing so, we will strengthen our faith and invite others towards the Religion of Light. When people see us, do they see a sign of the Ahlul Bayt's teachings? Is our demeanor a reflection of proper Hijab that they taught? Is our behavior towards the elderly an example of the respect that they taught? Are our words a mark of the cleanliness and truth that they taught?
If a fresh fruit is a sign of a healthy tree and a lit room is a sign of a strong light source, then let us be signs of the righteous teachings of the Supreme Lord's beloved ones. Just as – when Imam ar-Ridha listed the golden chain of narrators – no one was surprised that the Imam could be traced back to such noble personalities, it should not surprise others that we are followers of the blessed and pure Ahlul Bayt.

In the battle of Siffin, Imam Hasan (as) killed 70 of the enemy in his first attack and 202 in his second attack.
But you know what the greatest act of bravery is? Signing a peace treaty with Mu'awiya even though the people who are supposedly on your side call you "Mudhil al-Mumineen".

U have come to the right place. We can help u. But we need some info:
    1) where do u live (What country? what state or Province etc ?)
    2) sounds like u only have one washroom in the whole school  , dont u have 'that' washroom that all the way 'upstairs' and no one likes to use?
    3) Are u in high school or elementary (just trying to gage the maturity factor of the ppl, seems low anyways)
    4) Strenght in Numbers. Do u have other muslims (Sunni or Shia) who pray or is it just u? Do u have siblings who go to the school?
    5) What is the awareness level of islam and muslims amognst the teachers? (heavily dependent on country that u live in)
    6) In regards to the space, best to avoid teachers and go to ppl with authority like the principal and ask for a designated prayer space. Also good to approach him/her with some authority for example a letter from a local alim stating that this is a requirement for u. Can u execute this or are there obstacles for u?
Okay now I want to make two points:
    A) in regards to ur amount of prayer, dont worry, there is a hadith that says that once 6th Imam (as) was a youth and intense in worship. His father (as) saw him and basically said that Allah (aj) is pleased with his servants little worship. Basically, be sincere in ur worship and little is enough. Don't feel guilty
B )learning to do wudhu and praying has numerous websites, I am sure some of our members here can give u some links.

Hang on a second.... being MUSLIM in a non-muslim country is a tough task on its own, but that doesnt mean that muslim women have to wear western type clothing to try to fit in!!! When Allah(swt) commands you to wear hijab then we should do just that, and that also means to represent your religion in the right manner ,which means wearing hijab right! Whether it be physically or mentally!! But physically everyone can see so thats what islam will be judged on most. When you wear hijab you must educate urself why u are wearing it,its not just about covering up like you said. But its the first thing people see!
I agree 100% that lots of women that wear hijab right are embarrassing and they are not representing the religion right, but thats not an excuse to go wear hijab and skin tight clothing, no ones perfect but most women these days are trying to fit in no matter what the cost is and thats whats making us look bad.
At the end of the day all Women in hijab are representing islam and no one is perfect but if you let a few things slide here and there and use "its hard" as an excuse then obviously they are wearing hijab for the wrong reasons!

    w/b w/r (salam)
I came across this and thought I would share it with u folks: http://www.islamicin...shi-najafi.html
Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Abul Ma'ali Shahab ad-Din Muhammad Hussain Mar'ashi Najafi (July 1, 1897 - August 31, 1990) (Arabic: اية الله العظمى السيد شهابالدين الحسينى المرعش‎) was an Iraqi born Marja-i Taqleed. A prominent jurisprudent and Islamic scholar, he was also the founder of the Grand Library of Mar'ashi Najafi in Qom, Iran. He is widely credited within the Shia world for having selflessly salvaged many thousands of rare, near destroyed or lost Islamic books an manuscripts.
Today, this library contains the largest collection of Shia manuscripts in the world.[1]
Last Will of Ayatollah Mar'ashi Najafi
    I advise my son:
Always remain ready to serve the religion of Islam and strive in the defense of Truth. Today the religion of Islam is crying, Hal Min Nasirin Yansuruni, Hal Min Dhabbin Yadhubbu Anni? – "Is there a helper who will come to my aid? Is there a rescuer who will come to my rescue?" O my son, in this age there are very few who answer this plea from Islam, and may Allah reward the few that there are.
Always ponder deeply over the verses of the Holy Qur'an and follow the advice and instructions contained therein. Visit the graves frequently and think, "where were these people yesterday, what were they, how were they, and where have they come today? Do not sit and indulge in vain and useless gatherings. There are few gatherings today where gossip, slander, and lies are not present; rather, they do not exist. Refrain from excessive attachment to this world.
Maintain good relations with your close relatives, because by this act you will gain inspiration to do good deeds and earn blessings and an increase in your means and life-span.
Always refrain from backbiting of the servants of Allah, and especially remain aloof from gossip about the scholars, because that is like eating poisoned dead meat.
Remain engrossed in the learning of religious knowledge. Continue to progress in it every day, and remain busy in spreading it all the time.
O my son, make a habit of reciting Sura Yaseen after morning prayers every day. After Dhuhr prayers, recite Sura Naba, after Asr prayers, recite Sura Asr, after Maghrib prayers, recite Sura Waqia, and after Isha prayers, recite Sura Mulk. In this practice are amazing gains. My teachers advised me to this, and I have seen its blessing more than once.
In the Qunoot of obligatory prayers, always recite the following: Allahuma Inni Asaluka Bi Haqqi Fatimata Wa Abiha Wa Ba'liha Wa Baniha Wa Sirril Mustaudihi Fiha, An Tusalli Ala Muhammadin Wa Aali Muhammad, Wa An Taf'al Bi Ma Anta Ahlu, Wa La Taf'al Bi Ma Ana Ahlu. – "O Allah, I beseech you in the name of Fatima, her father, her husband, her sons, and the secret she is buried with: shower your blessings upon Muhammad and his Progeny, and do unto me that which is worthy of Your mercy, and not that which is worthy of my actions." This supplication was taught to me by both my father as well as my teacher Shaikh Muhammad Hussain Shirazi. He has narrated this authentic narration from Sayyid Murtadha Kashmiri by Ibn Taoos from the Holy Imams (peace be upon them).
O my son, in the Ruku, especially of the last Rak'at, after Dhikr, recite Salawaat in this way: Allahumma Salli Ala Muhammadin Wa Aali Muhammad Wa Taraham Ala Aajizna Wa Aghizna Bihaqqihim.
Always recite the Tasbih of our wronged grandmother Fatima Zahra. That Tasbih is not only for recitation after prayers; rather, it should be recited all the time.
O son, there is a memorable speech by Lady Fatima which she gave in the Mosque of the Prophet in front of the Ummah. Even the scholars and proficient linguists have failed to understand it fully. Think deeply about her words and try to understand them.
Study the famous sermon of the Chief of the Believers and the Leader of the Oppressed called Shiqshiqiyyah.
I stress to you to never abandon the Night Prayer. Do Istighfaar in the early mornings.
Be gentle and merciful to the poor and needy, and especially take care of the Sadaat and students of Islam.
Avail yourself of the blessings of visiting the Holy Ahlul Bayt (peace be upon them). Reach the places where they are buried and after reciting salutations, repent and recite supplications – in these actions there are untold benefits.
O my son, regard your life's time as precious, and do not waste it on useless talks. Allah is strongly displeased with a young man who wastes his time.
I have gathered the earth from the graves of the Ahlul Bayt, the Holy Imams, their children, their companions, and the pious scholars in a small bag. Bury it in my grave with me so that I am blessed.
Also place in my grave the black clothes I use to wear in the grief-ridden remembrance of the suffering of the children of the Holy Prophet during the months of Muharram and Safar.
After shrouding me, place on my chest the handkerchief with which I used to wipe my tears in mourning my grandfather Hussain (peace be upon him).
O my son, always remain in a state of purity. By that act, the soul of a person remains content and is free from grief.
After my death, perform the Hajj and Ziyarat of the grave of the Holy Prophet on my behalf. All my life I longed to do this, but due to hardship, I could not go. Similarly, visit the sacred places in Iraq on my behalf. For both these good acts, I do not have anything except a few books. I hope my children will pay from their own wealth and do this kindness to me. My Lord is a witness that I do not have an inch of land nor any wealth of any sort.
O my son, if possible, use some of your wealth as Radd al-Madhaalim on my behalf, in case I have any dues outstanding.
O my son, every Thursday night, ask someone to come to the side of my grave and recite about the suffering of Imam Hussain.
When my bier is carried, announce to the people that if I owe anything to anyone, he should forgive me before I am buried.
Every Thursday night, my sons should come to my grave and recite the Holy Qur'an and listen to the remembrance of Imam Hussain.
The rosary made from the earth of Kerbala with which I used to recite my Istighfaar should be buried with me.

    (salam) w/r w/b:
I promised a member on SC I would tell this story so here goes.
Since about February 2011, I have tried to recite dua Ahad for 40 mornings. Each time I tried, I failed to wake up for Fajr at about the two to two and half week mark. Everytime I was dissapointed with myself.
If I couldn't get to pray fajr for 40 days then forget about Dua Ahad, I had bigger problems.
Nonetheless, I continued to struggle, continued to try and recite dua Ahad 40 mornings in a row...kept failing.
Even though I came home from University, there were mornings that my whole family would fail to wake up for fajr...A really sad state of affairs.
On Tuesday June 7th, I didnt not wake up for fajr...I had failed again. I recited the qaza of fajr at 11 am and for the first time said,
"Ya Allah, without ur tawfeek, is it possible for this task ever to be accomplished? Ya Allah adrikini!"
khair, I woke up for Fajr on Wed, June 8th...and the next day, and the day after that, and so on and so forth till I hit July 3rd. I realized that Alhamdulilah, I had done a good job for waking up for fajr, Also my family had also not missed a single fajr since Wed, June 8th, and I had also recited dua Ahad on every morning since Wed, June 8th. I knew, that this would not have been accomplished without Allah (aj) granting me the tawfeek to do so.
Curiosity overcame me and having the knowledge that I hadnt missed dua Ahad since June 8th, I wanted to see the date of the '40th day' of my endeavour would be.
By Allah (aj), to whom all the Glory, praise, and thanks belongs, I realized that my '40th day' would be none other than the morning of 15 SHA'BAAN ITSELF!!!!!!! (Sun, July 17th)
I promise all of u that I didnt plan for it to be like this. I only figured out on July 3rd that this would be the result and I was over joyed.
I am happy to state and share this good news with all of you that I didnt miss fajr prayer or dua Ahad from June 8th to July 17th and still counting. Inshallah, till the day I depart this world, I hope Allah (aj) will grant me the tawfeek never to miss fajr or dua Ahad ever again.
    Ilahiameen.
Shukran for taking the time to read this.
Some of you will be feeling a sense of divine intervention and planning took place.
Some of you will feel that it was luck.
And still yet, some of you will feel that it was pure hard work.
What you think it is, I leave you with two verses of the quran:
    076.029
YUSUFALI: This is an admonition: Whosoever will, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord.
PICKTHAL: Lo! this is an Admonishment, that whosoever will may choose a way unto his Lord.
SHAKIR: Surely this is a reminder, so whoever pleases takes to his Lord a way.
    076.030
YUSUFALI: But ye will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.
PICKTHAL: Yet ye will not, unless Allah willeth. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.
    SHAKIR: And you do not please except that Allah please, surely Allah is Knowing, Wise;

I just wanted to bring to attention a very intersting find by Brother Nader Zaveri on his blog.
    What to Say After Supplication
Here is a SaHeeH (Authentic) hadeeth on what to say after your supplication (du`aa). Allaah (سبحانه و تعالى) promises that He will answer and carry out your needs.
From Hishaam bin Saalim from Abee `Abd Allaah (عليه السلام) said: “When a man supplicates, and says (this) after what he supplicates,
    مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا حَوْلَ وَ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
“As Allah wills, there are no means and no power without the help of Allah,”
Allaah (عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ) says: “My servant has accepted, and surrendered to my command. Carry out his needs.
