  1. (salam) Does anyone know a trustworthy app for an android mobile phone which gives the prayer times according to the shi'a school? Apparently all I have tried are synchronized only with sunni pray times... (wasalam)
  2. (salam) Can anyone give me names of shi'a lecturers in english which are worth the time listening and you can learn a lot with them (and can be found on youtube)? Alternatively, it would be useful to learn of websites with trusworthy multimedia shi'a material. I have one of those insomniac nights  Thank you! (wasalam)
  3. (salam) I usually have my 6 cups of cofee a day and have almost forgotten tea. Now I wonder what's the correct ruling on the taking of coffee, tea, ginseng, caffeine pills, energy drinks, etc. Are they all lawful, only some of them? Is there a limit on the amount of coffee you can take daily? Please, tell me soon, as I'd give up coffee entirely if it turns out to be haram! (wasalam)
  4. (salam) brothers and sisters, Anyone knows of a free-of-charge hawza learning center online? I've been instructing myself for some years and I just thought it was time to enhance my islamic knowledge. Anyone can help? (wasalam) :D
  5. salam! does anyone know if there's a foundation of some kind where i can get a printed copy of the Qur'an translated by a Shi'a for free? Thanks and wasalam! :excl: Qasim
  6. Thank you sister, through your first link I investigated a little and I came to this: http://www.shiasource.com/drive/ There are a lot of lectures on the folder of the same name! Ma salama.
  7. (salam) I have just began an online howza and I'm in dire need of trustworthy lectures on the fundamentals and principles of Shi'ism. They have to be free, so Youtube links would work (or any other web which offers online lecture/documentary videos on Shi'a Islam). Also an indication of the names of trustworthy lecturers who are available on the internet. Thanks! (wasalam)
  8. Perhaps the reason of ambiguity lies at the very core of "divine guidance". Islam is supposed to adapt to each and every individual who approaches Allah in a sincere way and not everybody has the same circumstances. Through the help of our marja's we follow the straight path through a lot of curves and we need each and every injunction in one circumstance or another. I mean, if there's ambiguity is because Allah chose to show us the way not through a rigid system of sayings besides the Qur'an. Our sunni brothers think they have all sahih sayings about the Prophet SAWS and they are unable to re
  9. (salam) I'm now 32 and think I'm too old to begin hawza, so I want to fulfill a more down to earth learning objective. Does anyone of you know of a free course on Shi'a Islam? Anywhere I can learn about my religion apart from www.al-islam.org and www.maaref-foundation.com? This is really a wonderful religion and I don't want to miss a thing! (wasalam)
  10. (salam) I've studied in the past, when I was a christian, books of catholic theology, contemporary an classic, and one of the reasons I was so proud of christianity was the Summa Theologica by Saint Thomas Aquinas. In that moment I thought it was the perfect book of theology, comprehensive as well as detailed. Now I read only second sources on kalam because I don't know arabic and my question is if anyone of you know of the existence of a traslation of a good kalam book? (wasalam)
  11. (salam) Leaving apart that materialism in itself is a gross mistake that should be avoided, I can't see an outright contradiction between my beliefs as a twelver and my scientific convictions, i.e. the theory of evolution theistically considered. It's a basic tenet of many scientific disciplines, from biology to linguistics, that there are some kind of evolutionary processes at work in nature. It seems difficult for me to reject half of natural science in benefit of a narrow or inadequate conception of religion, but I would, if I have to choose. Allah is first of course, but I'd like to know w
  12. (salam) here in spain we have a 22% unemployment rate and it's really hard to get a job. I myself have been unemployed for almost 2 years. I have a degree in philosophy and now my parents want me to get another degree in english language and literature. They say it could be useful to opt for a teacher post or, if necessary, to work abroad. I am now 32, and 4 full years of study doesn't seem to me of much utility. What I want to do is to prepare an exam to work in a public library and then see what can be done to improve. Must I obey my parents or should I focus on getting a job first, given th
