  1. I don't know, I've only just started praying the right way recently... I do know there are some extremists who will harrass me about it when they notice though, and I noticed the guy beside me inching away a bit at Jum'a prayer. I've actually been meaning to ask about that, because I've heard two different versions of why imam Malik prayed that way. One is that the Caliph requested for him to be a judge and he refused, so they pulled his arms out of their sockets, the other is that imam Malik favoured the acts of people over verbal narrations and this is the way he found the people in Madina praying. Where can I read the details of these accounts?
  2. Is Currently Reading "Nahjul Balagha," "Ask Those Who Know," and "The Voice of Human Justice."

  3. My friend thinks I've just started following the Maliki madhab lol
  4. So being Usooli is kinda like following a madhab?
  5. The Quran says food slaughtered by the People of the Book (i.e. Jews and Christians) is Halal (lawful) for Muslims. Do Jews consider food slaughtered by Muslims to be Kosher?
  6. For example, how do you think things would have turned out for the empire they were building if the Ghadir Khumm speech spread amongst the people? Or what would the people have thought of Umar as their leader if they all knew about the fight he started when the Prophet (saws) wanted to write his will? What would the people have thought of Abu Bakr as their leader when he fabricated a false hadith "Prophets do not leave inheritance" and angered Fatima (as), if they had all known that "Whoever angers Fatima (as) angers the Prophet (saws), and whoever angers the Prophet (saws) angers Allah?" This is why they banned hadith.
  7. Was he not aware of the Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, and Isha prayers? If he hadn't been putting people in jail for narrating hadith of the Prophet (saws) he might have known that the Prophet (saws) said that "the best prayer of a man is in the home, except for the obligatory prayer," and "the superiority of the optional prayer prayed at home over being prayed in the masjid is like the superiority obligatory prayer over the optional prayer." Most people claim they banned hadith to protect the Quran from having hadith mixed with it. Allah himself swore to protect the Quran, so do these people have no faith that they have to take matters into their own hands? Do they think Allah needs their help? The reality is they banned repeating the words of the Prophet (saws) because if the general public was really familar with the Sunnah they would have seen the errors their leaders made and the contradictions in their rulings vs. the Prophets (saws) rulings.
  8. Wow, its frustrating enough living with 2 Muslim guys cuz they never wash the dishes or take out the garbage and leave the toilet messy....imagine living with non-Muslims if this is the case with Muslims :Hijabi:
  9. lol listen to how that sounds with just a few words changed. "sometimes one has to wonder if Muhammad was your Prophet or Abu Bakr and Umar after seeing all the things some people do or say about them. Sometimes you hear more khutbas on Abu Bakr and Umar than the Prophet himself, the religion was established completely by the Prophet, one does not need someone else although others shouldn't be ignored. " sad, but true.
  10. Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman banned hadith so that the people would forget. Then when Mu'awiya took over, he first ordered imams to curse Imam Ali (as) in every khutba. Later he tried a different strategy, giving rewards to people who could fabricate pleasant sounding hadith about Uthman. After that, he started paying people to write down all sorts of things about the first 4 Caliphs, but when it came to Ali (as) for every hadith regarding him they had to fabricate something contradictory.
  11. Didn't anybody keep track of his geneology?
  12. x1000 :o Does that mean, Sunnis are superior to Shias? Yazeed was superior to Imam Hussayn (as)? Jews are superior to Muslims??
  13. You can pinpoint the exact moment of the Shi'a-Sunni split to the day Prophet Muhammad (saws) lay on his deathbead requesting a sheet of paper to write down his last will and testament by which the Ummah would never go astray. Umar shouted "He's only halucinating, don't listen to him! we already have the Quran!" and party of those in the house said "Come close to the Prophet (saws) so he can write it down," and a party of them sided with Umar saying what he was saying. This argument between the Party of Umar and the Party of those who choose to obey the Prophet (saws) has been going on for 14 centuries.
  14. I'm pretty sure the phrase was coined by Dr. Ali Shariati, but this post is a wonderful example of how sayings (hadith) get attributed to people who never said them....
  15. I start to think about the floor if my eyes are open..... :squeez:
  16. Don't you hate it when you just finished making Wudu and then nature calls? :squeez:
  17. Part of what caused me to open my mind again after closing it is that reading books about the Companions you find so many holes... I mean that we're taught that ALL the companions were completely pious and practiced Islam perfectly 100% (especially if you've been in contact with tablighi jamats...). They try to imprint an image in your mind that after the Prophets (saws) passing away that they were an army of thousands of pure and pious believers under a Guided Caliphate, travelling the world spreading Islam. It's a beautiful image really, if only it were real. You start to see the holes in this image when you study their individual stories, like Abu-Darda who used to cry because of the majority of Muslims abandoning the Religion to the point where the only recognizable relic of Islam is the prayer... then you start to see that the pieces of the puzzle dont fit.
  18. Im an ex-christian convert and christians almost always close their eyes for prayers so I tend to do it out of habit in salah and because it helps to block out the world around me during prayer....is it wrong? Iv'e been meaning to ask about it for a long time actually...
  19. You sound almost exactly like me, except I had to go through Sunnism first. I only recenty opened my mind to Shi'ism, and I find that the Shi'a approach to Islamic history is alot more realistic and intellectual than the fairy-tale like Sunni approach where Abu Bakr and Omar become the kings of Mecca and everyone lives happily ever after until the Day of Judgement... Unfortunatly for a time I was trapped by the waswas of Shaitan: "Ok, I've found the truth, no need to search further now." But like the stomach, the mind becomes hungry and has its cravings too....
  20. came across it once on wikipedia....
  21. lol thanks, nice name mashaAllah.

  22. Is that Urdu? I don't understand....
  23. My own opinion is that if it's not used to intoxicate than its halal to use for whatever purpose it was intended. However, I am not a scholar, and would like to know if there is a clear verse, hadith, or scholarly opinion that contradicts mine. My friend though, is afraid to use alcohol based hand sanitiser for fear that it will invalidate his Salah. What should I tell him?
  24. Do any of these guys who come up with these "fatwas" have the guts to do it themselves??
