To the respected believers in North America,
    Peace be upon you.
The Moon-Sighting Committee of the Council of Shia Muslim Scholars of North America announces that Sunday, July 7th, 2024, will be the first day of Muharram, 1446 A.H. for the entire region of North America.
This determination is based on the fact that there were verified sightings of the crescent moon by the naked eye at sunset on Saturday, July 6th, 2024 in many locations.

Salam and welcome. ShiaChat does not allow topics asking for financial help, due to a prevalence of online scams. Please note that there are too many frauds on the internet. Beware of scammers. While it is fine to sympathize with people and to relate to their stories, make dua for them and offer condolences if they lose someone, ShiaChat does not recommend that you transfer money or items of value to anyone who asks for financial help. Because there are too many frauds on the internet. ShiaChat is not immune to it.
Please do not give money to people on the internet without knowing their true identity. In this day and age, the person receiving the funds could be dangerous and sometimes on the watchlist of authorities thereby exposing you to risks such as becoming a suspect.  If you want to donate money online, please give it to registered charity organisations or people you actually know in real life.  Lastly, since you clearly intended to help this person, you will InshaAllah receive the rewards for actually helping.

ShiaChat Mod reacted to Abu Hadi in Starting a African American Shia Mosque in Milwaukee
I have been involved in a few masjid projects in the city when I lived in LA. All of them started small and grew organically.
First step is establishing a group of maybe 5 to 10 families. This doesn't require a masjid, you can meet in someone's basement or garage. Ask the group to contribute to fix up the space so it is suitable, like going in together to buy carpet and paint it and maybe have a few chairs or couches and maybe a coffee urn and machine. You need someone who is willing to donate the space and need families who are willing to take care of the ongoing expenses, like coffee, snacks, fruit, etc. Come up with a budget and take contributions.
In the beginning the budget might be maybe $100 dollars and it might be 10 or 15 people. The budget and the amount is not the point. The point is to get people together on a regular basis and discuss and teach about Islam and Ahl Al Bayt((عليه السلام)). Any gathering where this is happening regularly will be blessed by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) and will grow and prosper.
Once you don't have enough space in the garage or basement, then ask the group to contribute to rent or lease a small space like a storefront or a room at a community college. Most colleges will rent these rooms for a nominal fee. Once you outgrow this space and you see the population increasing month after month, then consider taking contributions to rent, lease, or build a space for a masjid. It's a gradual project that will probably take years.
Also, as others have said, please please don't call it an African American masjid or organization. OK, I get it that the majority or maybe all the regulars might be African American, because of where the space is located. At the same time be welcoming and accommodating and friendly to those non African Americans that might want to join the group. There is no racial preference in Islam. Everyone is equal before Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) and the only thing that distinguishes one person from another is Taqwa. Salam and I hope your project is successful. If I lived in Milwaukee I would join the planning committee. Unfortunately I live many hundreds of miles away so could not attend on a regular basis. You need people who live in the local area to be the core of the group, for obvious reasons.

    Imam Ridha (as):
O Ibn Abi Mahmood! Our enemies have faked three types of traditions regarding our nobilities which are of the following types: 1- boasting 2- belittling and 3- the wickedness of our enemies and swearing at them. When the people hear their traditions boastings about us, they will denounce us and say that the Shiites believe in the divinity of their Divine Leaders. When they hear their traditions belittling us, they will believe them. They will swear at us - the Members of the Holy Household - when they hear the traditions about the wickedness of our enemies and their being sweared at, while the Honorable the Exalted God has said, ‘Revile not ye those whom they callupon besides God, lest they out of spite revile God in their ignorance….’”O Ibn Abi Mahmood! Follow our way when the people deviate to the right or left. We will be with whoever follows us. We will separate from whoever separates himself from us. The least thing that might lead one to abandon faith is to say that a pebble is an atom, believe it and stay away from those who oppose him. O Ibn Abi Mahmood! Safeguard what I have told you since I have given you what is best for you in this world and the Hereafter.”

You can do it privately all you want. Doing it publically is another issue. We are a public website. I think you should ask yourself why you are so eager to do it publically when you know it would be destructive to the general cause of Islam as taught by Ahl Al Bayt((عليه السلام)) and when it is not necessary because Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) knows what you do privately and what you do publically. Are you trying to do it to please Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) or for some other (dunya related) reason ?

This unhealthy obsession of absolutely wanting to curse the caliphs is neither logical nor does it have any religious basis. For those who are absolutely insisting on persisting with this innovation, ask yourselves why the aimmah (عليه السلام) didn't behave in this manner and why you then still insist on holding onto something that was introduced by the ghulaat and promoted by the Safavids for their own interests.
As @root pointed out, it's telling that the same ignorant factions who persist with this foolish behaviour were absolutely nowhere to be seen when the resting places of the ahlulbayt (عليه السلام) were being targeted by Das and their likes. For all their bravado, when it comes to actions they simply vanish whereas the ones they abuse and curse lay down their lives and their children's lives in the way of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى).
If it still isn't obvious after this as to which path is the one of the aimmah (عليه السلام) then one is perhaps too blind to ever recognize it.

As an adult, there are moments when u need to push down those feelings in service of the greater good and the greater goal. The greater goal is Unity (Wahidat) as it says in the Holy Quran 'We have created you as one Ummah'. The meaning of Ummah is a group of people who are shooting at the same target. Our target is pleasing Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى). If it pleases Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) for me to push down my anger in the situation then I will do it.
If you look at the lives of our Imams((عليه السلام)), practically their whole life was an exercise in pushing down their anger in service of the greater goal, which was teaching the people the true Islam. They are our examples.
You attract people when you stand up for what you believe in, but in a way that is considerate and non abusive. A true warrior only fights when it is necessary, absolutely necessary to fight.
If you do tabarra in your heart and not in public when it is not in keeping with good aklaq then you are following the example of the Imams of Ahl Al Bayt((عليه السلام)). If you do the opposite then that is not following the example of Imams((عليه السلام)).

The religion is not as complicated as people try to make it out to be. Our core references are the Quran and the Ahlulbayt.  This is where we take our teachings from.
Those people who have been told that cursing the caliphs is a part of the religion need to go back and study the texts. The Ahlulbayt (عليه السلام) did no such thing.
  25. Thanks

Islamic Résistance (Shia Majority) are against cursing for two reasons,
    1. It's very bad aklaq. (This has already been covered)
    2. There are many Sunni Brothers in the Islamic Resistance and they fight alongside Shia. You think everyone in Hezb, Hajj Sha3abi, etc, is Shia ? Most are but there is a large minority who are Sunni and even there are some Christians who are fighters in these. So for practical reasons you don't want to upset or annoy your brothers in the resistance struggle against the Thalimeen.
