  1. Ironic that you have the picture of Ayatullah Sistani as your profile pic and he says this about apostates: http://www.sistani.org/arabic/qa/0279/ السؤال: ما هو تعريفكم للمرتد بالتفصيل ؟

  5. No they won't. You must be confusing people in the US with people in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Most Americans wont even give it a second thought, much less their government.
  6. Misunderstood Sign Causes Harassment Of Shop owner Picture Of Sign Spread Across Internet POSTED: Monday, July 19, 2010 HOUSTON -- Sajid Master wants the phone calls and angry letters to stop. He wants people to quit coming into Perfume Planet in west Houston to yell at his workers. He'd especially like folks to stop castigating his landlord. Nearly a year after the Internet painted Master as an Al Qaida sympathizer, outrage toward the store at the Harwin Central Mart shows no sign of waning. "They've threatened to kill me; sometimes they're cursing when they call," a resigned Master said rece
  7. Get one of those clip-on earrings from a place like Claires or Walmart. This way you can see if you like it before getting the piercing done.
  8. People questioned Islam all the time even during the time of the Prophet (p). One person even asked Imam Ali (A) - what if there is really no God, to which the Imam responded by saying that he would still live his life the exact same way even if there was no God*. Any maulwi these days would throw a hissy fit if he was asked such a question. [* Can't recall the source for the above but if you know please share it] I recall an incident many years ago from my high school Islamic studied class when I threw a volley of questions at my pakistani teacher - If satan tempts everyonel then who tempted
  9. All shaheed and especially the Masoomeen are, in our beliefs, alive. However it would be a travesty of fairness and justice to imagine Allah would leave them alive on earth. When saying they are "alive", one would expect they've already been escorted to heaven right after their death and are not having to linger here on earth - a place that gave them so much grief. Can you state any source that backs up your assumption that they are 'alive and omnipresent here on earth' and where they have claimed that 'Allah has granted them the responsibility of moving around and helping out people in need t
  10. Airing such critical comments in a public magazine instead of directly communicating concerns to the superiors would get you fired from any organization - doesn't matter if its the whitehouse or your local masjid. Of course resigning was the right thing for him to do. Btw, what on earth does this have to do with "Western Style Democracy" anyway?!?
  11. Imam Ali (as) has already stated it as clearly as possible: Imam Ali's advice to his son "He Who owns the treasures of the Heavens and the Earth has given you permission to call upon Him, and promised you a favorable response. He has ordered you to ask Him and He will give you, to seek His mercy and He will extend it. He has not made any barriers or intermediaries between you and Him. Nothing stops you when you commit a sin from repenting and going back to Him." "When you call upon Him, He listens to you. When you whisper to Him, He knows your secret. When you tell Him of your need and co
  12. I saw this show on NDTV and of course support the one third reservation of seats for women in parliament. The mullahs leading the muslim groups in India are crying foul because they don't have any women leaders in their groups and therefore fear that their numbers and clout in the parliament will further decrease. Instead of crying over women getting more rights, these ambassadors of misogyny and jahilliya should work towards including women in their organizations. =============================== http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women%27s_Reservation_Bill_India Women's Reservation Bill or the Th
  13. It's basic human psychology to want to have something physical to hold on to, something one can see and touch to derive comfort and assurance from - hence the red threads, amulets, talisman, chewing flowers off alams, swallowing soil from holy places, etc.
  14. 1. Participate in the political system at the local and national level. 2. Visit http://www.cair.com Change takes time.
  15. I won't suggest getting too worked up about the lashkar wahabi types. That's the beauty of living in a Western society - people can believe and preach whatever they want - bad or good, hateful or not, wahabism or shi'ism. As the cliche goes, I may not agree with what they say but I'll defend to my death their right to say it. As long as no one's rights are violated, chill. As for mainstream Sunnis, one good idea would be to unite on common ground e.g. organize joint Miladunnabi functions, annual sports events, camping, etc.
  16. Can you please provide the reference (book, page#, etc) from where you quoted this. Jazakallah.
  17. Guess which one of these groups when "attacked" respond with not only death threats but actually carry them out!
  18. Hatred or incitement of it is a fundamental right. Violence or inciting of violence is not. The cartoonists/writers never incited violence. If inciting hatred or vilifying other peoples' beliefs were illegal, most Shia maulwis would be sitting behind bars right now.
  19. Why so serious? B) Perhaps we should turn to the example of our Imams for guidance. A mean spirited person confronted one of our Imams and started verbally abusing the Imam's mother saying, 'your mother is such and such'. The Imam calmly responded, "If what you are saying is true then may Allah forgive my mother and if what you are saying is false then may Allah forgive you". It is indeed strange that we the Shias who claim to be the followers of a Prophet who tended to a sick woman that previously used to throw trash at him, get so worked up over a bunch of offensive drawings or books. The

  21. Torrent is a file sharing technology - it is not haram or halal by itself. If you are sharing, copying, uploading, viewing, or downloading a file for which you have permission from the producer of that file then that act is halal. If you are downloading, copying, uploading, viewing, or sharing a file for which you do not have permission from the producers of that file then that is violating the terms of use for that file. Most producers of music, movies, software clearly state that doing all of the above is a crime unless stated otherwise in the terms of agreement. It really is no different
  22. I was just kidding. However, feel free to add your tips and the guide can become a reality.
  23. You were right! It was from an Indian fake news site but not onion. Quite a few funny headlines on there. http://www.fakingnews.com/2009/10/unable-to-attract-even-a-single-girl-frustrated-man-sues-axe/ Just curious ...what are you a president of? Shiachat president? :-)
  24. No wonder Pakistan has turned into a hell hole with a populace that has a shocking inability to self-reflect and a mind boggling penchant for absolutely bizarre conspiracy allegations. And to put it bluntly, these conspiracy theories after a point should be classified as nothing less than lies that are damaging what's left of the reputation of Muslims. Kind'a of topic but this pitiful line of thought has even crept into (or was it always there?) the sport of cricket, with a Pakistani politician accusing the Pakistani cricket team of losing on purpose. Thankfully, Younus Khan (cricket captain)
