  2. From 'al-ghayba' by Numani: Imam Baqir (peace be upon him): "If people know what al-Qaim (s) will do when he appears most of them will wish he would not appear. He kills great numbers of people. He begins with the Quraysh. He kills much many of them until many people say: He is not from Muhammad's (pbuhahp) progeny. If he were from Muhammad's (pbuhahp) progeny he would be be merciful!" Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): "Why do you urge on the appearance of al-Qaim? By Allah, he wears rough cloths and eats coarse food. There will be nothing but the sword and killing under the shadow of his sword." "..there will be nothing between him and between the Arabs and Quraysh except the sword...so why do you urge on his appearance?

  4. Because the Imam (peace be upon him) is smart and he has learned from the past in which the people of Kufa called Hussein (peace be upon him) and then betrayed him. Their letters to Hussein (peace be upon him) closely resemble the thread in which people are signing up their allegiance to the current Imam. Yet the current Imam knows the false ones from the true ones and clearly the true ones are short in number. For example how many of the people pledging their support would be prepared to fight against their own family members or their 'scholars' if the Imam told them to. Not very many I believe- they would probably find it easier to reject him instead. Imam Sadiq (peace be upon him): When al-Qaim appears those who have thought themselves as his followers will apostatize and those who are somehow like the woshippers of the sun and moon will believe in him (Biharrul Anwar vol.52 p.363)

  6. Thank you for your post. Again, it was the actual narrations that appealed to me most. I agree that too much importance is given to rulings without consulting original narrations- this may be sufficient for Shias but for those who want to learn about Shiaism, original rulings are needed. You don't just blindly follow everthing a scholar tells you regardless of their high position. Too many times on Shiachat members post rulings from 'scholars' without the original. By the way exactly how long after sunset or Sunni time (5 mins after sunset) is Magrib/Isha?

    Salam I have a few questions. Can anyone provide authentic hadith on the manner of shia salah from the imams (pbut) and not just from current 'scholars.' For example, proof from the imams that you should wipe over and not wash feet in wudu or proof that Mahgrib is to be prayed after sunset- e.g. delayed from the sunni time. I came across one in which the 11th Imam advised someone to combine the prayers but that is more or less it. Many of the rulings given are not backed up by hadith and as someone new to this prayer I would like to see original evidence. Thanks.

    When praying the 2 nawafil sitting after isha are the arms still unfolded? I also do not get the combining issue- if Asr should be prayed early as possible why seperate it and call that recommended? Is isha only 4 farz and 2 nawafil sitting? Salam and thanks

    Salam 1) How do you pray nafal: hands by the side while sitting? 2) Is it better to combine prayers (e.g. pray asr early with zuhr) or seperate? 3) What are the number of rakats in the prayers e.g. no 'witr' in isha? 4) If I pray the sunni way (e.g. hands folded or praying the sunnah and nafal of prayers) is it acceptable since there are varying reports and I do believe in the Ahlul Bait (pbut)? 5)Can other sunni practices still be followed? e.g. method of Istekhara 5) Do you pray tahaajjud in the same way i.e. 4, 4 and 3 witr salam

    In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful. I have been praying the 'Sunni' way for a long time e.g. 5 prayers, 5 different times and would like more information on how to pray the 'Shia' way. I have read some posts and seen some sites but they do not seem to go into detail like the Sunni ones do. Some specific questions: 1) How do you finish the salah? I know you say 'Allahu Akbar' 3 times but do you turn your head and/or lift hands when doing this? The Sunni way is to turn the head right then left saying 'assalumu alikum'... 2) When do you pray maghrib? I have read 15 mins after sunset/sunni time. The sunni way is a few minutes after sunset for appox. 20 mins. 3) How long after maghrib is isha? I have read varying reports e.g. straight after for a certain period of time, when light disappears, until midnight. The Sunni way is appox. 1hr 20mins after maghrib. 4) Can I use the local Sunni timetable for salat start time and then combine the prayers? 5) Do the Sunni rules still apply? For example, no prayer after praying Asr unitl sunset or Fajr until sunrise and maghrib open for only appox. 20 mins after sunset? Any general detailed information on shia prayer is welcome. PS Is the Shia way derived from Ayatollahs rulings or the Imams (pbut)?

Here is the original version: I swear by Apollo Physician and Asclepios and Hygeia and Panaceia and all the gods and goddesses, making them my witnesses, that I will fulfill according to my ability and judgment this oath and this covenant: To hold him who has taught me this art as equal to my parents and to live my life in partnership with him, and if he is in need of money to give him a share of mine, and to regard his offspring as equal to my brothers in male lineage and to teach them this art - if they desire to learn it - without fee and covenant; to give a share of precepts and oral instruction and all the other learning to my sons and to the sons of him who has instructed me and to pupils who have signed the covenant and have taken an oath according to the medical law, but no one else. I will apply dietetic measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice. I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody who asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect. Similarly I will not give to a woman an abortive remedy. In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even on sufferers from stone, but will withdraw in favor of such men as are engaged in this work. Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice, of all mischief and in particular of sexual relations with both female and male persons, be they free or slaves. What I may see or hear in the course of the treatment or even outside of the treatment in regard to the life of men, which on no account one must spread abroad, I will keep to myself, holding such things shameful to be spoken about. If I fulfill this oath and do not violate it, may it be granted to me to enjoy life and art, being honored with fame among all men for all time to come; if I transgress it and swear falsely, may the opposite of all this be my lot.
