The love of Imam Hussain (a.s.) has nothing to do with beating your chest and certainly the one's who do it for show and lose their modesty by taking their shirts off should question whether their love is real and if it is what are they achieving by making a mockery out of that love. 1000 + years have passed and all we have to show for the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (a.s.) is a bunch of people beating their chests every Muhorram. And we wonder why our Imam doesn't come back. The question was not about whether mataam is permissible it was whether doing it without a shirt is permissible. I would think it's Makhru to do it without a shirt as it goes against modesty - and people who aspire to be Mohmin refrain from Makhru acts. You would never see an Ullema without a shirt and certainly our ahlul bhait (a.s.) would not have conducted themselves like some of our men do in jaloos and other places for mataam, so what justifies these acts? Why do men feel the need to do such things that go against basic principals of modesty. It is unecessary and has absolutely nothing to do with love of imam Hussain (a.s.) in fact I am certain even he would frown upon it. Especially the public displays of such immodest acts. I have seen men in -30 weather, freezing cold, beating their chests without shirts. As a shia I feel it's so dispicable, I can't imagine what the non-shia and non-muslims think when they see this. What was such a pure form of lamentation has become so adulterated and barbaric. I wish more Maulanas would speak out against this.
  2. You really think we should put 100% faith in people who are human and commit errors. This concept of marja is for seeking consult and guidance not blind faith. God gave us a brain and intellect and we have the Quran and authentic Hadith to go by. Read them and we should not put our faith solely in someone who can commit errors in interpretation and commits sin as well. If something doesn't seem right and I am pretty sure anal sex does not seem right, then don't do it. Plus there's so many fatwas by sistani.org that really don't make sense.
  3. WOW MashaAllah that is one of the best Khutbas I have ever heard. What a great speaker. We need more Maulana's like this! Apparently he has a son who recites just as well!! Bas the bottom line for all our Muslim brothers and sisters is that in any way, shape or form, please just remember the sacrifices of al-Husain and present your love and respect to our beloved Prophet (s.a.w.). There is no greater human emotion than Love.
  4. Unfortunately it is true that many forms of mataam such as Zanjeer, Qama and even the loud matam many men do without their shirts is giving our shia practices a bad reputation and image. Muhorram is a solemn time where we should reflect on the sacrifices that our beloved prophet's family made for Islam and Humanity. It is a time that should be commemorated not only by shia but by all muslims. We should also always remember how would our Imams have griefed. Would they have beat themselves with knives or bashed their chests. On the contrary, they did not do any of this, yet they did grieve and remembered the events of Kerbala through their own form of majalis. A practice which is completely appropriate and beautiful and has no negative image. The action of Awais Qarnee was an isolated incident that was a reaction out of love end emotion to an immediate event. His reaction was favored by Rasool Allah because it showed his love for Rasool (s.a.w). However it does not mean we should create practices in his footsteps that are not the result of an immediate event and therefore become mechanical and unnatural actions. Crying is a natural expression of grief. As you hear the story of Kerbala your tears flow naturally and therefore there is no mechanical action. Our Prophet (s.a.w.) and his holy family spent their lives propogating and preserving the message of Islam. As muslims we should always be careful to never tarnish the banner of Islam.   5. I was watching a movie and one of the jewish symbols looked a lot like an "Alam" (part of the banner of Imam). I thought this was kind of interesting and did some research and the symbol turns out to also be referred to as hand of Fatima. I wonder if it's the same thing as our Alam's emblem. Any thoughts?

Too the person who asked why it's not a translation..I specified it's a transliteration - meaning it's taken from one language and transferred to another language with the same meaning. Also in terms of the Yahudi's daughter..many claim that our bibi wouldn't go to a Yahudis place. This is rubbish as they were people of the book and Imam Ali also is know to have worked for a Yahudi. There is no discrimination as to who's house you can or cannot go to. The only thing is that if they are eating or doing non-permissible things, then you should not do the same. Some also say this is just a story. But if you read the Quran the Quran is full of stories and it calls them stories. Story doesn't mean fiction. Sometimes you just have to believe and I have seen so many people who have done 'mannat' to read this beautiful kahani and have got their prayer accepted. It's all about faith.

  8. My father and I have done our best to provide the kahani in English for those who can't read urdu. This is the famous Kahani of Bibi Fatima (as). Many question it's origins, but I have seen it's great miraculous effects. Even a sunni family that my dad suggested the kahani too, did manat and said they would read the kahani if the prayer was answered and their prayer was answered. This manats. just like duas have great spiritual strength and with that comes many blessings. Take it as an enhancer for your duas. ---------------------- Bibi Fatima (as) Ki Kahani Ek mashoor reewayat hey ke arab ke kissi shehair mein aek sunaaran raihtti thi jis kay sirf aek larrka tha. Aap ijaazat dein to mein sharf paoun ke Janaab Saiyada (S.A.) mairay ghar tushreef le chalain. Aap ne farmaya ke iss amr kay malik Janaab Ali (A.S.) hein. Ye sunkar woh Hazrat Ali (A.S.) ki khidmat me hazaar houa aur arz ki kay aap ijazaat dein to janaab Saiyada (A.S.) merey ghar tashreef le chalain. Aap nein fermaaya key iss amr ki maalik khud Janaab Saiyada (S.A.) hein. Jounhee Aap yahudi kay makaan mein dakhil houein tamaam makaan apkay noor say roshan hogia aur aisee khushboo phailee kay dur dur tuk mahsoos honey laghee. Yeh tajammul aur waqar dekh kar tamaam yahudi aurtein behosh hogaein. Thorree dair baad sub ko hosh aaya magar dulhan ko hosh nahee aayaa. Lakh tudbeerain kein magar sub baisood hooein. Dekha gia tau maalum hua kay rooh aaroos qafus-e-ansari se pervaz ker chukee hai. Annan-fannun mein khan-ae-shaadi matum kada bungia. Janaab Saiyada (A.S.) ko yeh dekh-ker bohatt tashveesh hooee aur aap nay fermaya kay itminaan rakhoo abhi hosh ajaata hai. Iske baad aap nain dau rakaat namaaz purhkar dua farmaee aur kaha kay aey merey Mabood mein bint-e-Rasool (A.S.) hoon: Siddiqa naam rakha hai aapney Batool ka Jhootta na kijeo moojey sadqaa Rasool Ka Aey mere Mabood-e-Berhaq: Mein aapke Rasool ki baitti hoon. Meri izzatt aapke haat may hai. Tamaam loogh yeh hi kahein gay kay Saiyada (A.S) kay aateh hi dulhun khatum hogaee aur khana-e-shaadi khana-e-ghum bungiya. Kuch dair na guzree thee kay aapki dua qabool hooee aur dulhan kalma-e-shahaadat purhtee huee outth baitthi. Allah Huma Salai Allah Mohammad Wa Ale-Mohammad Aur kheney laghee key mein shahadat daittee hum key khuda wahdat-la-shareek haiy Aur Hazarat Mohammad Mustafa (A.S.) burhaq hein aur aap inkee sahabzaadi hein. Tum logo nay kahaani naheen sunni. Yeh bud ahdi ki hai. Issi wajhaa se ye azaab nazil hoaa hai. Ab tum loug issi qaid khaney may kahaani soono. Larkiyun ney kaha ke qaid-khaney maen humarey pass paissey kahan hein. Aapney fermaaya kay tumaharay aanchal mein dou paissaiy bundhey haein. Larkiyaan jub hosh may aaeen tou kia daikha kay waqai inke anchel mein dou paisey bundeh thaiy. Ab inhonney kisi tudbeer se dou paisun ki meetthaee mangaee aur eik larkee ne kahani kahee aur doosri nay sooni. Subhay ko jub jalaad in lurkiyoon ko qatal kernay kay liay aaya tou inn donno nay uss say kaha pahlay hum badshah se kuch arz karna chahatay hein. Jub badshah inke pass Tasreef laya toa inn donno ne upney henna aalood haath band ker kahaa kay ek aadmi hummaray makaan per bhaij dijye phir aapki jo marzi hogi yo keejyia ga. Badshah nay yeh manzoor kia aur eik seepahee ko rawaana kia. Seepahee nay jakar jo daikha yo hairaan rah gia. Wahan per sub kuch mojood that. Mahal, takht-o-taj sub kuch salamut thaah. Badshah nay dil se iss maujzay per yaqeen kia aur forrun huqum dia kay donno larrkiyyon ko ba izzat aur ahtaram ke saat riha kiya jai aur mahal ponchaaya jai.   9. Well if you think about it their is no such thing as "muslim" any more. The divide had already been created when the so called followers of Rasool Allah decided to deny his message that Ali is his successor. Shia only call them shia after that when the divide happened, to identify themselves with the followers. There shouldn't be anything wrong with that. It's probably better to call yourself Shia Muslim though rather than just shia. But if it is established already you are a muslim and a person is asking from which group of muslims, then identifying yourself from the right group I would imagine should be fine. This is just my opinion.
