  1. They don't have any history of it. Although, I cannot vouch for what their reaction will be, but I feel like it's not something to leave unaddressed.
  2. My external reaction would be to walk away and mind my own business, but the gut feeling is to tell the parents especially since they are being lied to, directly and indirectly. More specifically regarding the sin that broke the camels back, is this female family individual who is 21 years old, had sexual intercourse with a 40 plus year old westerner man and continues to do so. It just doesn't feel right sitting this one out.
  3. Sorry for the confusion, I meant to inform the parents of the wrongdoer.
  4. Salam everyone, Just wondering what our roll is as Muslims regarding informing parents of family members committing haram acts such as drinking, eating haram food, relationships outside of marriage, etc. Unfortunately, one of my family members behaviour is quite unsalvageable and this individual is really manipulating others into believing they are on a more righteous path. Should I confront the parents or should I mind my own business? Thank you everyone.
  5. Salaam, Sayed Ali Khamenei's office will not announce for Western regions. They let their local representatives handle regional sightings. Southern Ontario will almost be a certainty, given the fact that we share the same horizon as the southern United States, and the fact that we are allowed to use a telescope. I would most certainly confirm with your local representative however.
  6. It clearly indicates it's a Sistanti based ruling, judging by the huge Sayed Ali Sistani banner on the side.
  7. Hassan, Your view on the definition of the same horizon may be a marja' issue that may need clarification. If you follow Sayed Ali Khamenei, AIM's position clarifies how the ruling is determined if you are a follower of Sayed Ali Khamenei.
  8. I am not sure if you comprehend the fact that I do not need to see it myself, let alone my local community. You have to understand that there are a lot of conflicting reports stating that there is confirmation of sightings, based on reliable people - then you have local centers such as al-Huda who have a different opinion and report zero confirmations.
  9. I highly doubt any representative within Al-Huda used a telescope prior to posting the memo (again, doubt - but possible), however their opinion would then be based on a local event, regardless of the possibility of sharing a horizon with a region that may have seen it.
  10. Are you kidding? Following a marja' clearly determines the method of witnessing a moon sighting, especially without the aid of tools such as telescopes, when my marja' allows it.
  11. Yes, they differ. Ayatullah Khamenei is similar to Ayatollah Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah in astronomical calculations.
  12. Jaffari Centre follows Sayed Ali Sistani. Al-Huda is simply an Islamic centre whom in my opinion prematurely released the memo.
  13. No, that is not factual. It is definitely possible to share a horizon with another region where one area can see the moon and another region cannot. The only condition that meets confirmation is that the horizon is shared.
  14. It definitely is a frustrating process because of how much confusion determining Eid creates. I follow Sayed Ali Khamenei, and according to the astrological data, it should be fairly easy to spot a moon with a telescope/optical aid. Secondly, how is it possible to publicly state that Eid is not until Monday when there is still more time in a day to declare the non-possibility of a sighting?
