    Chapter: 34, Verse: 18:

A number of our companions, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad Bin Khalid, from his father, from Muhammad Bin Sinan, from Zayd Al-Shahaam who said:
Qatada Bin Da'ama came up to Abu Jafar Imam Mohammed Baqir (عليه السلام), so the Imam (عليه السلام) said, "O Qatada! Are you a Faqih (Jurist) of the people of Basra?"
He said, "That is what they are alleging".
Imam (عليه السلام) said, "It has reached Me that you are explaining the Qur'an".
    Qatada said, "Yes".
So Imam (عليه السلام) said to him, "You are explaining it by knowledge or by ignorance?"
    He said, "No, by knowledge".
So Imam (عليه السلام) said to him, "So if you are explaining by knowledge, so ‘you are’ ‘who you are’ and I would like to ask you’.
    Qatada said, "Ask".
Imam (عليه السلام) said, "Inform Me about the saying of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), "And We apportioned the journey therein: Travel through them nights and days, secure" (34:18).
Qatada said, "That is for the one who goes out from his house with lawful provisions, and camel rented lawfully intending this House (Kabah). He would be safe until he returns back to his family".
So Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) said, "I hold you to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), O Qatada! Do you know that if the man comes out from his house with lawful provisions, and a camel rented lawfully, intending this House, he could get cut off (by bandits) on the road, and his provisions would be lost and he could be injured due to that?"
    Qatada said, "O Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), Yes!"
So Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) said, "Woe be unto you! If you are explaining the Qur'an from your own free will, so you are destroyed and causing others to be destroyed. And if you have taken it from the men (others), you have been destroyed and so have they.
Woe be unto you! (But) that (verse) is for the one who comes out from his house with provisions, and lawful means of transportation aspiring for this House while having recognized Our rights, & his heart inclined towards Us, just as Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) has said, "Therefore make the hearts of some people inclined towards them" (14:37) and it does not mean the House (Kabah), for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى) is saying ‘towards them’.  So We are, by Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), the supplication of Ibraheem (عليه السلام) (in this verse) towards whom whose heart is inclined, his Pilgrimage would be accepted, otherwise it will not be, O Qatada! So if it is like that, he would be safe from the Punishment of Hell on the Day of Judgement."
Qatada said, "No offence. By Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى), I will not explain it except like this".
So Imam Baqir (عليه السلام) said, "Woe be unto you, O Qatada! But rather, those understand the Qur'an who have been addressed by it".

Allama Majlisi quotes from Zwaid al-Fawaid by Sayed Ibn Tawoos after quoting the long narration on Eid on the day of 9th of Rabi Al-Awwal:
نقلته من خط محمد بن علي بن محمد بن طي رحمه الله، ووجدنا في ما تصفّحنا من الكتب عدة روايات موافقة لها فاعتمدنا عليها، فينبغي تعظيم هذا اليوم المشار إليه وإظهار السرور فيه
"And we have found in what we read from the books several narrations in consent with this narration (about Eid on the day of 9th Rabi Al Awwal). We rely upon it. We should respect this day being referred to (9th Rabi Al-Awwal) and show/display happiness in it."
    [source: Bihar Al-Anwar, Vol. 95, Pg. 351]
Sayed Ibn Tawoos says regarding 9th of Rabi Al-Awwal:
اعلم أن هذا اليوم وجدنا فيه رواية عظيمة الشأن، ووجدنا جماعة من العجم والإخوان يعظّمون السرور فيه، ويذكرون أنه يوم هلاك بعض من كان يهون بالله جل جلاله ورسوله صلوات الله عليه ويعاديه
"Know that for this day we have found great narration. And we have found a group from the Ajam(Persians?) and our brothers (in faith) who showed happiness in this day and they recalled that verily this is the day of destruction of few of those who humilated Allah (swt) and his Prophet (saww) and were hostile to Him."
    [iqbal Al-Amal, Pg. 597]
Sheikh Abbas Qummi in Mufati al-Jinaan regarding 9th of Rabi Al-Awwal:
اليوم التّاسع : عيد عظيم وهو عيد البقر وشرحه طويل مذكور في محلّه وروي انّ من أنفق شيئاً في هذا اليوم غفرت ذُنوبه وقيل يستحبّ في هذا اليوم اطعام الاخوان المؤمنين وافراحهم والتّوسّع في نفقة العيال ولبس الثّياب الطّيّبة وشكر الله تعالى وعبادته وهو يوم زوال الغُموم والاحزان وهو يوم شريف جدّاً
"The 9th of Rabi Al-Awwal: It is a great Eid and it is the Eid of Al-Baqr (referring to the splitting open of stomach of Umar?) and its explanation is long and is stated in its required place and its narrated that verily one who spends (nifaaq) any thing on this day will have his sins forgiven and its is said that its Mustahab in this day to give food to the believing brothers and to make them happy and to increase the spending on ones household and wear clean clothes and thank Allah (swt) and worship Him and this day is the day of passing of distress and grief and it is very noble day."
[Mufati Al-Jinaan - Shikh Abbas Qummi]
Sheikh Muhammad Husain Najafi in his book "Jawahir Al-Kalaam" says:

"And as for the Gusl for the 9th of Rabi-Al-Awwal, it has been narrated that it was the act of Ahmad bin Ishaq Al-Qummi , with the reasoning as it is the day of Eid."
"But it is famous till today among the Shias, that that is the day of 9th of Rabi-Al-Awwal. And it has been found in a narration reaching up to Prophet Muhammad (saww) about the virtue of this Day and its honor and its blessings verily it’s a day of happiness for Them (as)."
"And we say that the recommendation of Gusl on this day is based on the recommendation of it for such times (days) and especially with it being Eid for us and our Imam’s (as)."

The Believers after the appearance of Mahdi (atfs) !!!
    Imam al-Ridha (asws) said:
"When the Qaem (atfs) arises, Allah will order the angels to greet the believers and to sit with them in their assemblies. And if one of them wishes one thing, Al Qaem (atfs) will send some angels to bring him to Him, then the angel takes him to Qaem (atfs) who realizes his need, then he returns him.
And there will be among the believers those who will travel in the clouds, and those who will fly with the angels, and those who walk with the angels, and some of them will go beyond the angels and some of those to whom the angels go to have judgments.
Indeed, the believer is more worthy near Allah than the angels. And among the believers, there will be those whom the Qaem (atfs) will appoint as judge among a hundred thousand angel."

    Salam,
I'm very keen to learn Arabic Grammar because I have holidays now (free time )
The benefit of learning Arabic grammer is that you'll be able to properly understand Quran when you recite the words inshallah and you'll appreciate it more. I'm planning to watch a series of lectures on the Medina Arabic book. The course is very popular and a lot of people apparently say that it has really improved their Arabic. The teacher is amazing judging from the lesson I watched.
You can find the resources (English key and worksheets) here ---> http://www.learnarabic.info/p/references.html?m=1
I thought I'll create this thread so users (those who are keen) can like update whenever they finish a lesson, in this way I'll stay motivated.

It's very possible to study Arabic on your own and be successful (if I am, surely other people are though), it's a war of attrition, as a friend put it.

I asked permission to meet Imam Sadiq (as). When I entered, I found him on his prayer mat in his house praying. I waited until he finished his prayers and then I heard him recite the following supplication:
"O Allah! O one who has chosen us for honor, promised us right of intercession, chosen us as successors, gave us the knowledge of the past and that which is to come and made the hearts of people inclined for us! Forgive me and my brothers who perform the Ziyarat of my grandfather, Imam Husain (as) and those who spend their wealth to travel, put their bodies to trouble seeking our pleasure in hope of the reward You have kept for associating with us."
"They perform the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (as) to make Your Prophet happy, to obey our commands and to antagonize our enemies. By this, they want to please You, so reward them on our behalf by Rizwan, protect them day and night, compensate their families and children whom they left behind in the best way and befriend them, keep them away from the harm of every insolent tyrant and every weak or strong one from Your creation, keep them away from the evil of every devil from among men and Jinn, grant them the best of that which they have requested while they are away from their homes for having preferred us over their families, children and relatives."
"O Allah! Our enemies have criticized them for going to our Ziyarat but that did not restrain them from coming to us and they went against our opponents. So have mercy on faces changed by the sun in our love. Have mercy on those cheeks which were placed on the grave of Imam Husain (as). Have mercy on those eyes which shed tears on us with sympathy. Have mercy on those hearts which have become restless/anxious and feeling burned for us and have mercy on their loud crying (screams) for us. O Allah! I entrust these bodies and souls to you till the day of great thirst when you will quench their thirst with Hauz Kauthar."
Muawiyah Ibne Wahab continued: Imam (as) continued this supplication in prostration. When he finished, I said: "May I be sacrificed on you! I think that if this supplication is in favor of even those who don’t know Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, I think that Hellfire will not touch them! By Allah, I wish I had gone to the Ziyarat of Imam Husain (as), instead of going to Hajj."
Imam (as) said, "You live so close. What prevents you from his Ziyarat? O Muawiyah! Don’t forsake it?"
I replied, “May I be sacrificed on you! I did not think that it was so important and it had such great rewards."
Imam (as) said, "Muawiyah! Those who pray for the visitors of Imam Husain (as) in the heavens are more than those who pray for them on earth."

muhibb-ali reacted to Muslim2010 in EId ul Fitr in light of Sayings of Imams AS
EID UL FITR -1st Shawwal    (Eid – According to Ma’sumeen a.s.)
On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, Imam Ali (as) delivered a sermon in which he said:"O people! Verily this day of yours is the day when the righteous are awarded and the wretched are losers. It is a day which is similar to the one on which you shall be standing (before your Lord).  Therefore, when you come out of your homes to go to places of your prayer, remind yourselves about the day when you (your souls) shall come out of your bodies to go to your Lord.  When you stand on places of your prayer, remind yourselves of your standing in the presence of your Lord (on the day of Judgment).  And when you return to your homes (after prayer), remind yourselves about your returning to your homes in Paradise.  O Servants of Allah! Verily the minimum reward for those men and women who fasted (during Ramadan), is an Angel, who calls out to them on the last day of the month of Ramadan (saying): ‘O SERVANTS OF Allah! REJOICE THE GLAD TIDING THAT ALL YOUR PREVIOUS SINS HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN.’

Imam Ali (as) has defined Eid as: 'Any day that is free of rebellion (or disobedience) against Allah swt.'
He is quoted  as saying:"'Eid is for those whose fasts have been accepted and whose salaat are worthy of reckoning and every day when one does not commit a sin it is Eid" (Nahjul Balaghah, Maxim no. 428)
Imam Ali (as) gave one further formula for us to use always:"Remember Allah and He will remember you."
The Imam (as) explained that one who adheres to the commandments of Allah swt is protected by Him.
Imam Al-Ridha (as) said:“Eid is a day of unity. Hence, it is a day to give thanks and reaffirm faith in His favours and praise Him. Eid day is the first day when eating and drinking is once again permitted during daylight hours. So, for the seekers of Truth, Eid Al Fitr is the first day of the year”.
In the Qu’noot of the Salaatul Eid, Imam Al-Baqir (as), beseeches Allah (swt): here he sought that which Allah swt's goodly souls wished to acquire from him, as well as protection from those matters that the goodly souls wished to be protected from.
Imam Al-Baqir (as) also reminded us of the sadness that accompanies the day of Eid, the sadness of the usurpation of the rights of the Ahlul Bayt (as) and the violation of human rights.

The Imam of our Time, Imam Al-Asr (atfs), has captured this sadness in the Du'a Nudbah (Supplication of Lamentation), which has been recommended to recite on Eid.
The message of Eid Ul-Fitr is that no Muslim remains hungry on this day. It is a day that the rich and the poor enjoy happiness of the day, as the well-off give Fitrah to the less well off. The Fitrah ensures acceptance of the fast’
Imam Al-Sadiq (as) has explained:“Fasts remain suspended between the earth and the heavens until Fitrah is executed”.
The emphasis on Fitrah is so much that a family capable of giving just one person's Fitrah can rotate that  self-same Fitrah among every member of that family and fulfil this obligation. Indeed, a poor man receiving charity too should pay Fitrah from the Sadaqat he receives.  Thus, the rejoicing on the day of Eid is to obey Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى and serve humanity, the twin purpose of Al-Islam that The Prophet (saw) defined for humanity.

Some of the sentences from an invocation by Imam Zainul-Abedeen. He says:-
"O Lord, Thou hast ordained Ramadhan to be one of the most chosen
.. .. ; and Thou hast distinguished it from all other months, and chosen it out of all other seasons and periods; and given it preference to all the times of the year, by having sent the Qur'an and the light of guidance in it, and by having increased the faith, and by having enjoined the observance of fast in it, and by encouraging us to stand up for prayer at night, and by placing in it the glorious 'Night of Qadr' which is better than a thousand months.
"Therefore, in accordance with Thy command, we kept fast in its days, and with Thy help, we stood up for prayers in its nights; presenting ourselves, by means of its fasts and prayers, for Thy Mercy which Thou dist offer to us.
"And, verily, this month of Ramadhan stayed amongst us a welcome stay; and gave us a righteous company; bestowing upon us the most excellent benefits in the universe. Now, it departs from us at the completion of its time.
"Therefore, we bid it farewell as we did good-bye to one whose departure is hard upon us and makes us sad; and whose parting away makes us feel lonely."
Then he turns towards the month of Ramadhan, speaking in an endearing tone:-
"How much did we long for thee yesterday; and how intense will be our eagerness for thee tomorrow. Peace be on thee and thy excellence of which we have been deprived, and thy blessings which will no longer be with us."
These few words are the mirror which show the true Islamic feeling towards the month of Ramadhan and its blessings and spiritual benefits.
Eid-ul -Fitr is related to such a month of blessings, because it is on this day that the strict restrictions of the preceding month are lifted.

"O" Allah! Bless us in the day of our Eid and our fast breaking and let it be the best day that has passed over us. Imam Ali Zainul Abedeen (PBUH) - Sahifa Al-Sajjadiyya
Eid-ul-Fitr can be interpreted as a three-fold blessing:
First it provides one more occasion for the Muslims to thank God and remember His blessings.
Secondly, it affords an opportunity of spiritual stock-taking, after the month of Ramadhan. A Muslim can now ponder over the strength (or weakness) of his will power; he can see, in the mirror of Ramadhan, what were the strong (or weak) points of his character, because under the stress of fasting, the hidden qualities (or evils) of human character come to surface in such clear way which is, perhaps, not possible otherwise.
Thus a man gets a chance of self-diagnosis of the traits of his character, which probably no one else may ever detect.
Thirdly, it enjoins the well-to -do persons to share a portion of what they have with their poor brethren. On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, a Muslim is obliged to give to the needy food-stuff at the rate of a prescribed weight, on behalf of himself and of every member of his family, including servants and guests who were sheltered under his roof on that night. It would certainly be pleasing to God if we did not forget these lessons after Eid-ul-Fitr.
In conclusion we should pray together to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى to accept our deeds done during this Holy Month (Ramzan) and to make us continue the good work and practices attained in this blessed month. Ameen.

muhibb-ali reacted to Ibn Al-Ja'abi in Need Answer On Hadith
    Salams,
Salam, this is very clearly a case of an unwitting scribal error (https://sites.ualberta.ca/~sreimer/ms-course/course/scbl-err.htm). The rasm (textual skeleton) for al-ṯīyāb and al-bināt. That is, if you ignore the dots, as they were sometimes not very clear in manuscripts (henceforth ms), the two words look the same, if a scribe copying an older copy of K. al-Kāfī saw what was intended to be ṯīyāb written unclearly by an earlier scribe, he would have had to guess what was meant and thought bināt. In the Dār al-Ḥadīṯ critical edition of K. al-Kāfī, this tradition is written with "ṯīyāb" though it has been noted the following mss have had this tradition recorded with "bināt" (abbreviations are the identification the editors gave to these manuscripts):
A ms which was copied in the year 953 AH (ل). A ms which was in possession of Š. Ḥurr al-ʿĀmilī (م). A ms in the handwriting of Allamah al-Majlisi (ن). A ms copied in 1098 AH (بح). A ms in the handwriting of Š. Ḥurr al-ʿĀmilī (بن). A ms which seems to be a collection of the individual books copied at different times (e.g., K. al-Ḥajj copied in 979 AH while another section -- unidentified by the editors -- clearly in different handwriting was completed in 1029 AH) (جد). And a gloss in a ms completed in 569 AH in the handwriting of Ḥaydar-ʿAlī al-Šīrwānī (جت). Refer to volume one of the critical edition of details of these manuscripts.
Note that mss 2 and 5 were in the possession of Š. Ḥurr al-ʿĀmilī, it's possible he used either of them for collecting tradition for his Wasāʾil, however it seems that this is the version of the tradition which he knew. It must be understood that prior to the age of printing texts contained variances since it was left to fallible men to copy them out, men who'd also be pressed for time since they were paid on how much they could copy out. This plus a host of other reasons, such as the messiness of handwriting, led to errors in texts, errors which need critical editions to resolve them. It was the advice of Šahīd al-Ṯānī that, whenever possible, to buy a text in the handwriting of the author to ensure maximum accuracy.

    Wa Alaykum Salam Wa Rahmatullah
    1) Tatbir is something done out of love for Imam Husain (as) to show that had they been in Karbala they would have sacrificed their lives for the Imam (as) and the person doing it will be rewarded.
    2) Blood donation is a good act done by people across religions and it need not be limited to doing it on Ashura only, it can be done as and when needed.
