  1. Congrats to you for having the courage to stand up against this cultural stigma. Thankfully, this ignorance is slowly but surely waning.
  2. The woman in the video is a social worker - not a specialist in brain chemistry or psychiatric disorders. It is important for those with mental health disorders to follow the advice of their medical professional - not "experts" on online forums or youtube videos. If you are questioning your treatment, seek advice from another certified professional in the mental health field. Mental health issues are very real and can be life threatening. There is a culture (especially from Asia) that does not recognize the seriousness of a brain disorder and because they cannot tangibly see this disorder a
  3. Why would you eat non halal foods?
  4. I am not sure what is fair or not fair as to who can marry a non Muslim, but where the real issue that really cannot be ignored is when you need to decide in what faith to raise your children. And if the (opt out?) plan is for the kids to choose their religion when they get older, they would have to be schooled in both and also practice both from a very young age. It will quickly become apparent that some religious dogmas and teachings are definitely not Islamic (and vice versa). This would be confusing and stressful for everyone.
  5. Lots of people have big mouths and try and influence people with their uneducated and moronic opinions. These opinions gain power when they are repeated by others. It is best not to repeat them. I mentioned the Arab refugee in Edmonton, Canada as there has been a big effort from the community to understand his behaviour and the potential impact on the Somali community there. Everyone came together in a vigil to support the community after this happened, Somali and non Somali alike... in a search for understanding and to maintain a united, safe community for all... please read ... http:
  6. @IbnSina Not necessarily. As for Charlottesville, Apparently there is no such charge as domestic terrorism (only international terrorism) and the term is used only as a descriptor. http://www.npr.org/2017/08/14/543462676/why-the-govt-cant-bring-terrorism-charges-in-charlottesville They guy was charged with a hate crime in addition to all the other charges against him so he will probably be put away for years numbering in the triple digits. As for an Arab extremist, This guy http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/terrorism-charges-edmonton-attacks-1.4316450 has a
  7. You are right in that many things can impact our brain, especially we age. He has no previous on-going history of violent behaviour or interest in guns. When he was a child, his father was an armed robber who had a violent criminal life and had been diagnosed as a "psychopath". https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/10/02/las-vegas-shooter-dad-10-most-wanted-list/724116001/ My theory is genetics + environment as a child + aging = instability. No matter how much you try and distance yourself from your heritage and upbringing, even with schooling and accomplishments,
  8. Not quite. He is now reported (by his brother) to be a retired accountant who was a multi-millionaire property investor. Liked gambling and taking vacations with his girlfriend. http://miami.cbslocal.com/2017/10/02/las-vegas-gunman-shooting-country/
  9. [MOD NOTE: The video was reported for women with no hijab. If you are sensitive to this issue, then please don't watch it. The video is being allowed because we have female members who are interested in this.] I dont think there is a scarf. But it is her business.
  10. I think Catholics in the Vatican are technically in church and need to dress to respect that (also she is Christian and would follow Christian protocol for the Vatican). In Saudi she was not in a mosque and in any case was not required to cover her hair because she is not Muslim.
  11. Verbal harassment is abusive and can cause a lot of harm and it does affect people in a "real" way. Teen suicides due to bullying are usually due to verbal abuse (Also, gay youth are 4 times more likely to commit suicide than other youth). Most husband abuse is verbal based. Verbal abuse is very powerful and very real.
  12. Covering up rumours and innuendos is what the Catholic Church did with their pedos priests. The best solution to them was to pretend it never happened and move the priest to another school or church and say nothing in warning to the new setting. This protection or forgiveness or wahtever it was, worked for a while until the numbers of people victimized grew and grew and the legal system held them accountable. Anytime youth are involved with a leader and esp a religous leader, all rumours and seemingly strange behaviour (and this behaviour does appear to be strange) need to be fully inve
  13. How long does your husband visit each time, of the "thrice a year", he stays with you?
  14. I think it is a very serious subject discussing punishements.I dont get the smiling and then laughing either...?
  15. I am confused about the statement in blue. If people have knowledge through talk in the community that a person is homosexual, then they are to report it to the authorities?
  16. History remembers who the perpetrators were as they kept exceptionally detailed reports of what they did, to whom and when. The perpetrators were the Nazi regime. That does not mean that there were not war crimes committed in other places and other times but it also does not diminish the horror of the holocaust. Zionist war crimes are also horrific and, in addition, they are ongoing. They are also well documented by written reports, eye witness accounts and increasingly by film. This documentation is recognized and publicized by international courts and watchdogs. The victims of the holoca
  17. ??? The Nazi regime was extremely creative and thorough with the inhumanity they dealt out to their victims. Car bombs, poisonings and snipers would have been the least of it.
  18. A man needs to have respect for himself first.
  19. Could be wrong but I don't think this is really about prayer breaks as it was part of their work agreement. They are making a stand in this way though.
  20. It is more complicated than that. Non Muslims were complaining that they were picking up the slack and so were working more than the Muslims and that it was unjust for them which could be true. Also, the workers were saying that they were taking washroom breaks but actually were prayer breaks so that they were being dishonest. The management said they had worked out prayer times with the workers but that the agreement was not being followed. There is probably a little truth in all peoples versions. Anyway they are losing good paying low skill jobs that assistance payments will not match. And,
  21. He needs to seek support from social assistance and get into a training program that is offered by the government. He will continue to get his monthly living allowance while he is being trained. http://www.mcss.gov.on.ca/en/mcss/programs/social/ow/index.aspx
  22. That is very benevolent of you. But I can assure you that the great majority of Muslim parents would have a huge problem with their kid coming home from public school with a written out declaration of faith stating "there is no God but Jesus, the son of God, the saviour of mankind". And that is exactly the "angle"I am arguing... but I am done.
  23. What I wrote above was within the context of what I was explaining to you and was obviously not a declaration of faith. To me, my declaration of faith is not a trivial matter and should not be treated as such. It is really obvious that having kids write “There is no god but Allah; Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah” in a history lesson would be upsetting to parents of a different faith. If you cannot see this than there is no point arguing.
